Southbank celebrates 10th anniversary

S

OUTHBANK, the rural banking arm of Zealep Group of Companies, celebrates today its 10th anniversary. Originally Kagay-anon Rural Bank before it became part of the Zealep conglomerate, Southbank started as a one-branch unit. With the recent opening of its branch in Bulua last January 28, the bank now has six branches, with four units based in Cagayan de Oro City and two in Bukidnon.

Setting its sight in the resource-rich province of Bukidnon, Southbank plans to open a fuel-fledged branch in Valencia City by middle of the year.

“It is but appropriate and timely that we have to participate in the economic boom that Bukidnon is experiencing, and thereby able to partake in the role that banks, rural banks included, in the inclusive

growth of our people,” said Southbank president Sonny Mendoza in a recent interview.

Southbank’s head office is located at Rodelsa Hall, Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro where its main branch, RN Pelaez Blvd. branch, is co-located. Other branches in the city are located at Trendline Bldg. in Cogon, Southbank Plaza in Velez and Village Arcade in

Bulua.

Claveria, a f irst class municipality of the Province of Misamis Oriental and a multi awarded LGU for Good Governance and Best Housekeeping Practices of the region turned over 19.3 Million completed infrastructure projects to its barangay beneficiaries last February 4, 2015. Funding agencies are Department of Agriculture (DA), and the Department of Social Work Department (DSWD).

Mayor Redentor Salvaleon and Vice Mayor Meraluna SalvaleonAbrogar of the Municipality of Claveria are one of the local executives of the Region and in the Province of Masamis Oriental who received multi-level awards in terms of local good governance for continuous development which the country needs today.

Fresh grads - destination unknown IT’S that time of year again when college seniors are looking forward to the day they culminate four years of sweat and tears. (Never mind the blood, that’s gory cliché.) Batch yearbooks get printed, final exams are almost a compliance requirement, farewell balls are held.

Then there are the job fairs.

It’s quite busy for HR divisions of huge entities in the Philippines nowadays (both private and government). For this is the time of the year when they are eliminating the best of the best of the university batches to lure in to their respective companies.

Even HR folks from as far as

Manila and Cebu come to Cagayan de Oro and nearby places such as Bukidnon, Iligan and Ozamiz to scout for new and potential workers that will help carry the banner of their companies into more productive success.

And the graduating students, young and naïve as they are, are quite eager to enter into the adult workforce so they can taste their fortnightly wage for the first time. It’s sort of their baptism of fire.

From college teens begging for their parents’ allowances every day, they will transform into financially productive persons.

University, it used to be in my mindset that we get to be the priority to be hired first every time there is a recruiting event.

But in reality, that’s not the case. Even fresh grads of small Tesda-accredited institutions can be hired on the spot.

Headhunters look straight in the eye of the applicant and disregard the transcript.

Because most recruiters are psychology graduates, they would naturally know who to hire for a specific job. They are actually the frontline of a company’s success because if the newly-hired worker turns out to be a productive asset of the company, then the firm’s reputation would
