CDO-ICT Business Council honors public, private agencies, ICT groups

I
n the aim to recognize public and private agencies, groups and individuals who serve as role players to the promotion, improvement and development of information and communication technology (ICT) in Cagayan de Oro, the Cagayan de Oro City ICT Business Council held an awarding event last December 12 at Centrio Mall. In partnership with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Misamis Oriental and Mindanao Cluster 2 Field Operations Office under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – ICTO, the event targeted to acknowledge prime movers in the ICT Industry and those who promote Cagayan de Oro as an ICT hub. The given major awards include Top CDO Blogs for exceptional blogs created and maintained and are appealing, engaging and dedicated to promoting and showcasing Cagayan de Oro; Top CDO Business Websites for outstanding sites dedicated to its products and services that provides users with features and functionality necessary to accomplish the tasks whilst maintaining a design quality that affords stature and professionalism to the enterprise; and the Top Schools as IT-BPO Resource for schools that produced skilled and effective talents, fueling the city’s ICT community and helping the CDO-ICT Business Council achieve its vision and mission of nurturing a thriving ICT community and transforming the city into a competitive provider for global services. Moreover, there are Movers and Shakers awards given for ICT organizations who contributed to the success of
CDO-ICT events. Categories include BPO voice segments, non-voice segments, suppliers, infrastructures, academes, organizations, locations or media supports and start-ups. Further, certificates are also given to event speakers, government partners, sponsors, emcee and people who helped in the event. CDO-ICT Business Council as well awarded ICT Champion Award of the Year to individuals who shared significant measure of leadership, influence, innovation, resources and support in ICT towards improving the business environment of CDO. This part came as a surprise and nominees were not informed about this. Prior to the awarding, an expo also came as a highlight. It is participated by CDO-ICT community that comprise of BPO stakeholders, academe, locators, and computer hardware vendors. CDO-ICT [resident Stephanie Caragos said that the event further showcased neophyte entrepreneurs in the ICT business community for their organization also thrusts to guide young ICT businesses and develop budding entrepreneurs having great ideas, for these businesses are great help in order to build meaningful foundation which the entire ICT industry could benefit from. Further, these ICT companies could assist Cagayan de Oro by means of providing employment and livelihood to its people. For his part, Arriba Telecontact, Inc. proprietor Alexander Paras revealed on Saturdaythat at least five huge call centers from Metro Manila are interested to invest in Cagayan de Oro.
In an interview at the sidelights of the ICT Awards 2014, Paras said that he and his colleagues at the privately-initiated Cagayan de Oro ICT Business Council has recently spoken with counterparts from the Call Center Association of the Philippines. The council is composed of at least a dozen firms in the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector in the city. Paras said more than 50 percent of their personnel are engaged in outbound support. He sees the entry of the five firms in the city not as competitors but as partners in the development of Cagayan de Oro. “The more BPOs we have here, the less unemployment that we have. We don’t have the same clients so we’re not competitors at all,” he said. Engineer Ramil Cabaces of Concentrix CDO keynoted the awarding program. He reintroduced and conducted short discussion on business process outsourcing (BPO). In his speech, Cabaces said that Philippines is the world’s number 1 comes to voice calls segment over the years and it is determined to maintain that status. Moreover, he is confident that Philippines could pursue this target because one reason of achieving such status is Filipinos are friendly and hospitable and these are already in the system and character of each one. He also presented the challenges that BPO in the Philippines are facing, especially in CDO. These include sustaining low cost structure, creating perception to CDO in terms of safety and security, putting focus on information and knowledge process outsourcing and the need of project managers among call centers. Meron silang hindi magandang masasabi sa ginagawa nang iba. “Trying hard lang yan, tignan mo wala naman alam yan.” At noon ikaw ay nagtagumpay na, eto naman ang komento. “Ay, wala yan, tsamba ba lang yan.” Hindi mo maiiwasan na may mga taong ingitero at ingitera. Habang tayo ay nabubuhay sa mundong ibabaw, may mga taong talagang nilikha ni Lord na pampabalanse ng buhay natin. I can still recall when I was invited to be one of the speakers in a conference. It was a full house event and people were really so excited with the things that they are going to learn on that day from all of the speakers. I was the first speaker and I was given 45 minutes to speak. As a communicator I was trained by Francis Kong to adhere to the time allotted in respect to the next speaker. I was very sensitive with the time allotted

Nais nilang maging matagumpay ngunit hindi sila naniniwala na kayayanin nila. Mababa ang kanilang moral and tiwala sa kanilang sarili. Mas mabilis pa silang kakayanin ng iba pero pag nakita nila may umaangat na higit pa sa kanila. Yun na, lumalabas na muli ang kanilang insecurity. THEY COMPARE THEMSELVES WITH OTHERS Ang hilig nilang ikumpara ang kanilang sarili sa iba. Ang favourite line nila sa buhay, “Buti pa sila…” Kung parati ka na lang nakatingin sa buhay ng ibang tao. Hindi mo mapapatakbo at maplaplano ng maayos ang iyong buhay. VICTIM MENTALITY These are the unhappiest people in the world. They feel na parati silang kawawa at hindi nabibigyan ng break. They are so self-centered at iniisip lang ang kanilang sarili. That is the reason why parati silang malungkot. This is one thing I learned
in life; the hardest person to please in this world is no other than, yourself. Huwag patulan ang mga taong insecure at naiingit. Hindi sila dapat bigyan ng pansin. Kapag pinatulan mo ito, lalong lalaki ang kanilang ulo dahil sila ay binibigyan mo sila ng halaga. As long as alam mo na wala kang ginagawang masama, at wala kang nilalamangan. May mga naririnig din akong mga taong may mga sinasabi sa akin like: “Wala namang alam yan.” “Wala naman kakwenta kwenta ang tinuturo niya.” “Hindi naman marunong mag-ingles yan.” Ano ang response ko sa mga taong ingitero?

ADVENT is the four Sundays before Christmas. It is actually the start of the year for Roman Catholics because the last week of the previous year would end in Christ the King celebrations. Advent paves the way for the commemoration of the birth of the Savior and to be spiritually prepared, Catholics are encouraged to go to confession and confess one’s sins as far as he or she can remember from his last date with the confessional. The last confession I had was during Lent after Ash Wednesday. I still have to confess my sins this December because I was late during the First Friday confession time in

our parish because I was at Xavier Days at the time. For the four Sundays of Advent, there will be lighting of one candle per Sunday. All of the four candles which are placed in a wreath must continue burning in each celebrated Mass at the church before the Christmas Eve Mass. The liturgical color for these weeks is purple because it symbolizes our spiritual preparation for the coming of Christ. Now let’s do an origins of the word Advent. It simply means “coming”. So during Advent, we’re supposed to spiritually prepare for the coming of Christ. But look at what society does these days

Yes I know that we are a secular community but majority of us are Trinitarian Christians so we definitely celebrate Christmas at one point anytime this December. Admittedly, there are some activities that we do that are considered unchristian. Excessive drinking is one. The road leading to Rodelsa Circle and portions of Corrales Ave. are where people get drunk. When one gets drunk, one’s faculty is compromised. In some instances, you will vomit what you have consumed, wasting precious food in the process. When you wake up the day after, there are gaps
in your memory of the night before. The whole activity is therefore unchristian. Excessive drinking is opposite to social drinking. The former is usually practiced by drunkards while the latter is being done in parties and certain chilling and relaxing moments such as in a videoke bar or at Haze or Lifestyle. Now don’t get me wrong here, I’m not labeling that drunkards are poor and that’s their only form of relaxation while social drinkers belong to the middle class. But reality and common sense states that it is so. After all, the financially poor Christians are not exempted from being spiritually prepared this
