“The 3rd Mindanao Fashion Summit” was a 3-day event held at the Rotunda of Limketkai Center last August 8-10, 2014. Designers from Butuan City, Davao City, Ozamis City, Iligan City and Cagayan de Oro City converge to put up a very fabulous show.

Why Pinoys are the Best?

A

fter travelling over 8,500 miles and 17 hours from Manila to Dubai and vice versa. I just can’t get over the UAE rush. I am not only impressed on how progressive their country has become from a desert land to a state of the art well progressive land.

One more thing that caught my attention was the Filipinos.

Do you know that there are practically Pinoys everywhere? We are the most travelled people in the world.

Even to countries you haven’t heard of.

Do you know that there are almost 700,000 Pinoys in Abu Dhabi alone? (Source: UAE Embassy) I am just so shocked and amazed, wherever we go, we see Pinoys everywhere.

From the hotel staff, to the resto that we ate, to the security staff of the mall and even the sales lady of the shops were Pinoys.

It’s as it seems that I haven’t left our country.

But there are so many amazing things I love from our KABABAYANS and I firmly believe with all of my heart that they are the best.

Allow me share with you why I feel that Pinoys are the best:

Sometimes a tragedy can become a blessing.

Since our country is devastated by so many calamities, from natural calamities such as typhoon to man-made calamities such as some inefficient or misguided leaders in government.

When flood waters come in the house and when Pinoys are forced to go up their roof to take refuge. When rescue boats come in to help, and while the news channel is covering the rescue, they would even have the strength to smile and pose for the cameras.

We learned on how to adjust and adapt to change.

So how about you?

Do you believe that we are the best?

If you believe, let us stop saying negative things about each other and our country. Let us make an extra effort to look at the good things and stop saying bad things about our country.

Yes, I know that there are many things that we can still improve, but we are sure getting there.

Let us try to encourage one another and stop destroying one another.

Let us make every effort to become positive and stop living in the negative. Let us just do our best everyday and never settle for less.

THE MAN OF

“The Man of Himologan” was conceptualized and staged in the year 2008 as a way to heighten socio-civic awareness and educate about the history of our city among the youth.

It was named after the pre-historic home of Cagayan de Oro’s original natives, Himologan. The 6-year old pageant is often referred to as the counterpart of Miss Cagayan de Oro. The first Man of Himologan was held in 2008, where 15 young men with ages ranging from 18 to 25 were presented to the public during pageant night at the Imperial Ballroom of the Dynasty Court Hotel.

FHGG’s Lady Boss, Madam Edna Ramos-Garmendia said that the Man of Himologan is different from other male

pageants because its main advocacy is to highlight the God-fearing, intelligent, confident, talented, and socially motivated Kagay-anon men. Emphasis is on social responsiveness and personality development. The winning candidate will serve as a role model; a youth icon for the youth of Cagayan de Oro. The Man of Himologan 2014 was held at the Rotunda of Limketkai Center last August 15, 2014.

Proclaimed as The Man of Himologan 2014 was Delegate Number 12 - Romel Arvin Nikko Villafuerte, 18 years old from Barangay Kauswagan, a 3rd year Medical Technology student of Liceo de Cagayan University.

THE CDEO SINGING

POP STAR “The CdeO Singing Pop Star” is a city-wide singing competition, in partnership with Limketkai Center and Shopwise.

It aims to search for the newest singing sensation among the talented youth of Cagayan de Oro City ages 14 to 20 years old who has the musicality and star quality to showcase.

The competition will cover the entire barangay of Cagayan de Oro City but it is open to the neighboring towns within the region. Two (2) qualifiers were selected for each elimination round from May, June and July. The six (6) qualifiers competed for the Grand Finals last August 16, 2014 at the Rotunda of Limketkai Center.

FHGG’s Lady Boss, Madam Edna Ramos-Garmendia together with

Mr. Gabby Bacarro of Cagayan de Oro Talent Center and Ms. Donnah Burgos of Shopwise announced and proclaimed Sheena Marie Labis as the first-ever “Cdeo Singing Pop Star”. Her winning piece was “I Believe” by Fantasia Barino. She is 17 years old from Barangay Gusa and a 2nd year BS Technology and Communications Management student of Mindanao University of Science and Technology.
