Carp ends on June 30 but farmers remain landless • Archbishop Ledesma, peasant groups file petition for notices of coverage for 271,000-hectare of Carp land • Plea made less than a month before agrarian reform law expires

AGAYAN de Oro Archbishop Antonio Ledesma with the Task Force Mapalad (TFM) and eight other groups on June 4 petitioned Agrarian Reform Secretary Virgilio de los Reyes to issue notices of coverage (NOCs) for 35,204 landholdings with an aggregate area of 271,031.32 hectares.
Ledesma said: “ The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) should fast track the issuance of NOCs to ensure that all those areas are covered by the agrarian reform law, which is a social PETITION. landholding will be subject to Section 30 or Republic Act 9700 or the CARPER Law.” “The said section of the law provides that the DAR can continue the acquisition and distribution of landholdings even beyond 2014, the ending year for the extended CARP funding period,” Jayme stressed. Philippine top lady amateur golfers Sunshine Baraqueil, Sofia Chabon, Sophia Blanco and Annika Cedo together bring in a total two-day score of 414 to earn the Manila Southwoods a sure lead in the Class A Pearl Division on the first day and second day of the competition. Hot on their trail for second place are the Del Monte ladies, led by Pa-
mela Mariano, with a two-day total score of 382. Close on their heels is Harmie Constantino’s Villamor team with 372 total points. In the meantime, scores for Day 1 of the Class B Emerald Division show Valley Golf I leading over Negros Occidental, while Manila Southwoods II and Forest Hills tied at 3rd place.
