(WASFADSI) launched recently its Shared Service Facility (SSF) for the Upgrading of Catering Services project. DAVAO City -- “Daughters of Three Tailed Banner,” the first part of multiawarded Bangsamoro filmmaker Gutierrez “Teng” Mangansakan’s film, “Moro2mrw, “ won the Grand Jury Prize and Best Artistic Achievement awards in the main competition of World Premieres Film Festival (WPFF) 2016. The film competed with Vietnam’s “Yen’s Life,” Spain’s “Love Above All Things,” Malaysia’s “Redha,” and France’s “By Accident.” “Yen’s Life” won the Grand Festival Prize. The WPFF runs from June 29 to July 10 at the Cinematheque Centre Manila along Kalaw St. in Ermita. The awards night was held on July 3. Festival organizers say the WPPF “celebrates the power and magic of film by showcasing the works of critically acclaimed, upcoming film directors from across the globe. “Daughters of the Three Tailed Banner,” the first part of moro2mrw, “explores the stories of women and their struggles set on the eve of the inaugural of the Bangsamoro government.” The film was made pos-

sible through crowd funding and the assistance of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) after its institutional partner backed out from the project following the January 25, 2015 Mamasapano tragedy that left 66 persons dead – 44 from the Special Action Force of the Philippine National Police, 17 from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and five civilians. The tragedy unleashed an anti-Moro hysteria. In his acceptance speech, Mangansakan recounted how they “braved a sea of skepticism, animosity and prejudice towards the Bangsamoro people as a result of the Mamasapano Incident earlier last year. Suddenly we didn’t have a right to live. We didn’t have a right to dream. We didn’t have a right to make films.” Mangansakan is the filmmaker behind Limbunan, Qiyamah and Cartas de la Soledad among other films. Limbunan was the closing film of the International Critics Week of the prestigious Venice International Film Festival. “This honor is for Mindanao cinema – a testament to the richness and diversity

of Philippine cinema,” he said. Mangansakan dedicated the award “to the Bangsamoro people who have endured the neglect, bias and injustice all these years.” “This only proves that our stories are valid, that our struggles are valid. These stories are rooted on the ground, inspired by the voices of our people and their struggles. Our stories are the stories of the Filipino people too. Our stories also

resonate to the rest of the world. If only the world can see us without the blinders, then we can stand with them and among them with equal pride,” he said. “So I ask everyone here tonight. Become instruments in the propagation of the Bangsamoro’s quest for social justice, equality and peace. Let this be a celebration of hope. Researches show that two years loss of height cannot be regained and that height at two years old is predictive of stunting in older age. NNC 10 is hopeful that through the agency and its partners’ concerted effort, the 2016 Nutrition Month will be instrumental in upholding the well-being of the vulnerable groups particularly children, pregnant and lactating women in the region. “ The celebration of Nutrition Month is a rallying point and a unifying force to gain the support and commitment of different stakeholders towards scaled-up nutrition actions in Northern Mindanao.

After all, we are One Region in Nutrition,” Navales said. The first 1,000 days is the period from conception until the child’s second birthday. The period is known as the “golden window’s opportunity.” It is a crucial part of a child’s life. Mothers should see to it that they are healthy and well-nourished before and during pregnancy and during lactation period. For the first six months, the child must be breastfed exclusively and given complementary feeding therafter while continually breastfed until two years and beyond. Studies would suggest that growth faltering usually occur during the first 1,000 days. Overnutrition and development of noncommunicable diseases in the later years of the child’s life are linked to cases of undernutrition, specially stunting, during the early

age of a child. Children with poor nutrition are subject to slow physical and cognitive developments and will eventually grow to be less productive and frail individuals. Proper nutrition during the first 1,000 days significantly contribute to the optimum growth and well-being of the child. Given enough care and nourishment, a child will develop lasting and profound potentials that prepares him/her for a better life. A child’s future hinges greatly on the care provided at an early age. Hence, the Nutrition Month campaign. Zambo solon alarmed on findings that city gov’t employees positive for prohibited drug use ZAMBOANGA City -- First district Rep. Celso Lobregat on Tuesday expressed alarm over the initial findings of the City Health Office wherein some local government employees are found positive for prohibited drug use. Lobregat said this was not supposed to happen being government employees who are being looked-up to by the constituents in this city. Lobregat said it is not

good to hear that the ones who were expected to abide with the law are the ones breaking it. Dr. Rodelin Agbulos, City Health Office chief, revealed on Monday that six of the initial batch of 234 city government employees yielded positive during a surprised drug test conducted on June 30. “This is alarming, because these employees found positive in using illegal

drugs is disgrace in the city government as well as gives a wrong signal to the public, they must be sanctioned,” Lobregat said. He said the government employees were supposed to serve as role models to the public and must be the ones who were to discourage the use of prohibited drugs, “not to the extent of getting involved in it and be hooked-up on this illegal vice.”

He said the conduct of the mandatory drug testing to all city government employees should be pursued with “no exemption, no ifs or buts, and everyone must undergo the said procedures.” He also urged other regional government agencies to adopt the same procedures as done by the local government, wherein nobody is spared from the conduct of random drug testing.

“This process on drug testing must also be done not only in LGU (local government unit), but also towards all other national government offices based here in Zamboanga City, to ensure that there are no drug dependents in their ranks,” Lobregat said. Lobregat on Friday joined other elected city government officials undergo drug testing and all of them yielded negative result for

prohibited drug use. The conduct of drug test on city government employees is in compliance with Executive Order No. BC-188 issued by Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar on June 30. Salazar said the issuance of E.O. BC-188 is in response to the call of President Rodrigo Duterte “to unite our efforts in curbing the illegal drug problem in the country.” (PNA)

their homes in February, when the first clashes began. Some were able to return in April, and just when they started planting a new crop, they were forced to flee their homes again in May, when hostilities resumed,” Dominic Earnshaw, head of the ICRC-Cotabato, said. “Now many of the displaced are living with rela-

In the exigency of teaching in the public school, teachers tend to develop the sense of compassion to their and for their pupils, in which through times marks the important line of following the overwhelming compassion or sticking into the work of a teacher, either way, or maintaining balance between the two. Yes, compassion best serves all aspects of the human life. Be it at home, at school or at any place that further needs and requires it. We need to have a sympathy over every tiny detail of human existence.

And yes, compassion must be dealt with accordingly at school. Like for example, somehow, it is of normal scenario wherein in a school year there will be pupils who will drop their subjects and fail. Or a pupil who goes to school having no breakfast or having no baon at all. Or a pupil who goes to school crying over petty things that happened to him or her at home. Or even a pupil who summons to be disappointed when his or her classmate or schoolmate treats him or her wrong. These are just few of the situations

At all times, as a school teacher, or a class adviser, when a certain situation arise, first thing to do, is to weigh the incident, you have to make it sure that the situation is properly assessed as to what really happened. A teacher should be fair at all times. If for an instance, the one involved is your relative or a child of your friend, we must always be objective, not subjective. We must always take it note that we should treat them equally. Here then, we will employ and explore the link between compassion and our work as a teacher. Well, basically it depends on the situation. If for an instance, we have a pupil who is always silent in class and when you asked him on his whereabouts he said that he has a family problem; in this case, we can explore the link of compassion by extending our hand and opening our heart and ears for him. We can somehow let him feel that he is loved and we can somehow encourage him that amidst trials and problems, the Father Almighty is always there and that we as teachers, are always there for them. Thus in every situation, as a teacher, we should always weigh things out if it deserves to be considered or not and what would be the appropriate action towards it. At all times, we should always stand in the ground to be always fair and considerate on the endeavours of our pupils and the parents.

Fastest visa processing firm in US now in Cebu

RAPIDVISA, the fastest visa processing service in the US and in the country today, is set to officially open its Cebu office on the 12th floor of Park Centrale bldg. at the IT Park in Lahug, Cebu City, on July 4. “Cebuanos, and Filipinos in general, need not spend so much time processing their visas anymore,” says RapidVisa’s Customer Service Manager, Jerome Hermosilla, who is expected to cut the inaugural ribbon on opening day. “Instead of going through the hassle and complexity with the processing, they

A typical lawyer, according to Hermosilla, can take weeks just for this part. “Our team reviews visa petitions three times before sending them to the government. Gold Award for Pag-IBIG’s corporate governance Pag-IBIG Fund has won Gold Award from the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP). The awarding ceremony was held at its 39th Annual Meetings in Apia, Samoa on May 2-5, 2016. The international nongovernmental organization (NGO) recognized Pag-IBIG’s outstanding corporate governance initiatives on its three projects: (a) integrity practices and good governance among its stakeholders, (b) improved insurance coverage for home borrowers, and (c) proper management of its acquired assets. “The recognition from ADFIAP affirms that PagIBIG Fund is on the right track in its good governance initiative, as we are guided by excellence and integrity in our performance and dealings with our stakeholders. Improved Terms of Insurance Coverage for Housing Loan Borrowers Pag-IBIG Fund bidded out in 2014 the contract for the life insurance coverage for housing loan borrowers. This was previously provided for years by an insurance pool whose contract did not have a period, and did not undergo any type of public bidding. Pag-IBIG was firm in its stand to bid it out, and closely coordinated with the Department of Finance, the Insurance Commission, and the Governance Commission on GOCCs (GCG), to be correctly guided as to the process that should be followed. As a result, the new insurance provider was able to reduce the premiums by half from P0.41 per P1,000 to only P0.23 per P1,000. For the first time, burial benefit up to P20,000 will be given to the heirs in case of the borrower’s death, full payment of loan in case of borrower’s permanent total disability, amortization support up to P500,000 in case of termi-

nal illness, and 20% share of the insurer’s profits by way of Experience Refund. The previous additional P2 per P1,000 OFW premium and additional medicallysubstandard premium rate have also been scrapped under the new arrangement. Processing time for claims has also become faster. Proper Management of Acquired Assets Pag-IBIG Fund continued to practice prudent fund management of the money of its 16 million members by managing its foreclosed assets portfolio through proper disposal and effective collection. In 2015, PagIBIG achieved the highest recorded corporate disposal of acquired assets in the last five years, comprising of 19,567 accounts with a total book value of P6.951 Billion. For the same year, Pag-IBIG also collected P4.168 Billion, the highest collection from the sale of its acquired assets since 2011. The ADFIAP is an international NGO that is in consultative status with the United Nation’s Economic and Social Council and a founding member of the World Federation of Development Financial Institutions. It currently has 100 member-institutions in 39 countries. ADFIAP gives out Outstanding Development Project Awards to recognize and honor ADFIAP members which have undertaken and/or assisted projects that have created a development impact in their respective countries. BDO Acquires Full Control of Generali Pilipinas BDO Unibank Inc. (BDO) recently secured final regulatory approval that allowed it to acquire full interest in Generali Pilipinas Holdings Company Inc. (GPHC). GPHC is the joint venture vehicle created out of the insurance partnership forged between BDO and Generali of Italy (Generali Group) in March 1999. GPHC is the parent firm of life insurer Generali Pilipinas Life Assurance Company (GPLAC) and Generali Pilipinas Insurance Company (GPIC), which is engaged in non-life insurance. BDO is re-focusing its insurance strategy to align with its thrust to solidify its presence in the broad-based middle income market. By assuming full control of the GPHC insurance operations, BDO will be able to adapt more readily to the demands of its target markets. BDO’s President & CEO, Nestor V. Regional X Mass Training for Senior High School Mathematics Teachers By EVANGELINE M. PAILMAO Senior High School Teacher Bulua National High School

The Department of Education Region X conducted a Regional Mass Training of Grade 11 Senior High School Teachers which was held at Misamis Oriental Comprehensive High School, Cagayan de Oro City last May 20, 2016 to June 10, 2016. This 22-day seminar was participated by the Grade 11 Senior High School Teachers of different divisions in the region. The training aimed to equip the Grade 11 SHS Teachers the competencies needed as they deliver the interplay of curriculum instruction and assessment as learner-centered SHS Grade 11 Teachers; to express commitment in the attainment of training; and to appreciate the system of the Department of Education. In the morning of Day 1 was the arrival and registration of the participants. The opening program was done in the afternoon wherein the mechanics of the training was tackled. The training proper was started on Day 2. On this day, speakers tackled functions. There was a walkthrough on the curriculum guides on the functions, inverse functions, rational functions. During Day 3, a video presentation about the K to 12 was played and the participants were asked to make reflections on that video presentation. On Day 4, a walkthrough on logarithmic functions was done in the morning. There was a demonstration teaching in the afternoon. The trainers asked volunteers to have demo teaching. I volunteered myself to be one of the demonstration teachers on this day. Day 5 had a walkthrough

on Business Mathematics and Logic. Participants were asked to identify learning competencies which are difficult to teach by the teachers and difficult to learn by the students. A sharing of output was done by group. We were also asked to give suggestions and share best practices on how to deliver these topics. Every after the discussion, there was a demonstration teaching. Each one of us had a chance to be a demo teacher since there were many topics which were tackled. Moreover, Days 6-18 had a walkthrough on the topics random variables and probability distributions, sampling and sampling distributions, normal distribution, estimation and parameters, a test of hypothesis, correlation and regression, trigonometry, analytic geometry, mathematical induction, limits, derivatives, and integration. After the walkthrough, there was a discussion within the group and this was reported in the whole class. The trainers then had the deepening of the topics after the discussion. They encouraged us to use the 4A’s strategy, especially in Mathematics. This stands for Activity, Analysis, Abstraction and Application. After that, there was a demonstration teaching every after the discussion of each topic. The process observers then gave their constructive criticisms. They had some suggestions for us to improve in delivering the topic.
