Guv on Digong’s SONA: A ‘10’

LANAO DEL SUR -- Provincial Governor Soraya Alonto Adiong of Lanao Del Sur rated President Rodrigo Duterte’s first State Of the Nation Address (SONA) Monday a perfect “10”.

Adiong said that after watching the SONA, she expressed the optimism that a sincere reform would be expected under the Duterte administration.

“With that, I gave President Duterte the satisfying perfect 10 rating on a scale of 10,” said Adiong, the governor of the predominantly Moslem province in the Northern Mindanao region.

Adiong said that most of Mr. Duterter’s plans, policies, and programs were also in line with her 8-point “Agenda of Governance.”

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Office 13 denounced and deeply condemned the atrocity conducted by the lawless armed group with the recent abduction of three PNP members and one Non-Uniformed Personnel (NUP) on Sunday, July 24, 2016 in Barangay Cagtinae, Malimono town.

The four abducted victims identified as SPO3 Santiago B. Lamanilao,

presently assigned at the Surigao City Police Station; PO3 Jayroll H. Bagayas, PO2 Caleb C. Sinaca and NUP Rodrigo T. Reading: A Window to a New World

Reading is a ticketless vehicle that tours you around the world. It transports you to places wherever and whenever you want. When we open a book we open a door to a whole new realm, sometimes a realm similar to ours and other times a realm completely different than where we exist. Reading is important, because if you can read, you can learn anything about everything about anything. – Tomiede Paola

Reading does not merely entertain people, but most of the time reading had also been a sort of getting important information from references. It teaches us new words and widens our vocabulary and understanding of things around the globe.

In the early years, before the widespread of computers, reading had been a common hobby. However, as the world gives way to the rise of the digital era, young individuals slowly choose online surfing, gaming and etc. over reading books. In the early 90’s children are

Natural disasters are inevitable and cannot be predicted as to where and when it will happen. Earthquakes are considered to be one if not the most destructive that may claim lives to an unprecedented situation.

It is important that all schools must ensure the safety of pupils, parents and teachers. We did this drill every quarter to refresh the procedures and to prepare everyone physically, mentally and

emotionally when it happen.

This school year our very own Maramag Central Elementary School joined the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) last June 22, 2016. The activity was actively participated by all grade levels from Kindergarten to Grade Six including the SPED class.

Representatives from Bureau of Fire Protection were present to evaluate the activity.

Prior to the activity; every class, the teacher gave lectures about earthquake

natural book lovers, now different programs were imposed in different schools just to develop a child’s love for reading like the very widely-known DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) program of the Department of Education. Students specifically the young ones who are very much into gaming failed to see that reading provides a variety of opportunity for them. They miss the chance to experience the roller coaster of emotions that only reading can give them. When we read we are given a chance to visit

somewhere, it could be our dream place for that note. It is not only that, reading also enhances our imaginations.

Yes, it is a fact that movies, like books, can also take us to different places around the world depending on its setting, but books provide limitless imagination on how particular setting would look like for you. To top the list, book unlike movies can give you a chance to read what is in the mind of the characters. With these you can actually build up what kind of person that character would be. Reading is not only interpreting written symbols printed on a sheet

on what should be done before, during and after the disaster. Identify the safe spots, danger zones and evacuation area. Properly introduced and execute the most important basic steps the “duct/drop, cover hold”.

The activity started at 9:00AM, the bell was heard and as response all do the proper and expected actions.

During the 60 seconds of bell ringing the participants performed the Duct/Drop, Cover and hold. After the bell the students quietly went out the classroom in double file and proceeded to the assigned area, the teachers made the head count to make sure that

all the pupils were in the evacuation area and see to it that there were no pupils left behind the room.

Over all the said school activity was rated as outstanding by the representatives from Bureau of Fire Protection.

There were 4,582 pupils, 111 teachers and unaccounted parents and stakeholders actively participated the said event.

The activity ended successful, it also highlight le ar ner engagement, awareness on disaster risk concerns, and assessment on the capacity of the schools in managing emergencies.

State of basic education for the next six years

EXPECT not so many changes for the next six years in elementary education in the country under the Duterte administration.

Elementary education from Kindergarten 1 to sixth grade has already been institutionalized during the past administration.

What the current DepEd could do is to be vigilant that the existing K to 12 curriculum will continue to be implemented smoothly.

Most importantly, the K to

12 curriculum must achieve its goal – to produce quality students who can reap awards in international academic competitions.

Fast forward to senior high and students are expected to be mature and familiar with the various subjects that adults will undergo through their whole lifetime. One of these is financial literacy.

Unlike senior high schools in other countries where subjects are not flexible, Philippine senior high schools

(both government- and privately-operated) offer a wide range of subjects from cookery to financial literacy.

I love to dwell on the subject of financial literacy as this can mold students on how to seek money and be financially independent and sustainable as they transition into adulthood.

The training will be part of the Philippines’ National Strategy for Financial Inclusion, a multi-agency initiative that aims to promote financial inclusion. One of these is financial education at the high school level.

DSWD-Caraga conducts Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) Implementation Review for SY 2015-2016 BUTUAN CITY -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development

(DSWD)-Caraga conducted on June 16-17 and June 21-24, 2016 the Supplementary

Feeding Program (SFP) Program Review and Evaluation Workshop (PREW) cum Stake-

holders Orientation for SY 2015-2016 held at Goat2Geder Hotel and Restaurant here.

Lea Radaza, regional focal person of SFP, gives her welcome message to the P/C/MSWDOs during the SFP Prew cum Stakeholders Orientation for C.Y. 2016 at Goat 2 Geder Hotel and Restaurant, Butuan City.

Among the attendees are the Provincial/ City/Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officers (P/C/ MSWDOs), Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) Chairpersons, and local auditors of the local government units (LGUs) in the region.

According to Lea Radaza, focal person of SFP, the objectives of the orientation is to review the SY 2015-2016 SFP implementation of every LGU. “Its purpose is to identify the accomplishment of the region when it comes to nutritional improvement of the day care children enrolled last year,” she added.

“Out of 6,926 children, a total of 6,010 children beneficiaries restored to their

normal nutritional status. With this, we exceed the target of 80% set by the national, since the field office reached 87%,” added Radaza.

Also, the stakeholders were re-oriented on the guidelines pertaining the SFP implementation for this year. This will ensure that the program serves its purpose.

SFP is the provision of food, in addition to regular meals, to currently enrolled day care children as part of DSWD’s contribution to the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) program of the government.### (ABEGAIL R. ALVAREZ/Social Marketing Unit/DSWD Field Office Caraga)
