Protesting farmers go home after getting sacks of rice DSWD-10 gives 4,000 sacks of rice for 16,000 hungry farmers of Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon

CAGAYAN de Oro City–– Some 5,000 farmers from Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental camped out at the premises of the regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Region 10 (DSWD10), at Masterson Avenue, Upper Carmen since Monday and demanded for rice allocation worth P20 million intended for what its leaders claimed as hungry farmers who are victims of the El Nino phenomenon. On Tuesday, July 26, after a series of negotiations, the farmers on board several dump trucks and commercial buses left with the condition that they be given 4,000 sacks of rice worth some P5 million. Some 5,000 farmers staged a camped-out near the regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Region 10 (DSWD-10), at Masterson Avenue, Upper Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City, since Monday (July 25) during President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Address (SONA). The farmers demanded rice subsidy for 16,000 hungry members in Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental who they claimed were victims of the El Nino phenomenon. CAGAYAN de Oro City–– The Department of Agriculture (DA) has installed eight automatic weather stations in all food producing areas in Northern Mindanao as part of its preparation against La Niña. DA Director Lealyn A. Ramos for Northern Mindanao said the local early warning system for weather disturbance is even capable of determining how many hectares of land would be damaged in case of an incoming tropical cyclone. CAGAYAN de Oro City--President Rodrigo Duterte must establish a modern energy infrastructure based on renewable energy (RE) sources to sustain growth and development while freeing Filipinos from the stranglehold of coal power, said Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (iCSC). group promoting low-carbon development initiatives in vulnerable countries, said President Duterte must use his six-year term “to uplift the Filipino people from poverty by establishing a modern energy infrastructure powered by the steady growth in renewable energy investments—which in turn will provide jobs for our people.” “Clean energy is now far cheaper and is the unequivocal reliable choice of the future,” he added.
