Lanao del Sur’s dream road: The shorter route to Northeastern Mindanao

Many residents of Lanao del Sur are anticipating the completion of the on-going “Dream Road” project, a 53-kilometer road stretching from the municipalities of Molundo, Maguing, Bumbaran and Wao, Lanao del Sur, to the municipality of Maramag, Bukidnon. This is according to the governor of the said province, Hon. Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto Adiong, Jr., who lobbied for its completion to President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino, III.

As of press time, only 12 kilometers of the road is being paved. “I am hopeful that the project shall be fully completed by 2016,” Adiong said. The Dream Road shall shorten the travel time from Marawi City, the seat of the provincial government of Lanao del Sur, to the cities of Malaybalay and Valencia in Bukidnon from seven hours to four hours. “Going to Davao City shall no longer be a 12hour feat for residents of

the province as travel time is lessened to more or less four hours,” said Provincial Engineer Serad Laut. Adiong said the said road is expected to enhance business, fair trade and livelihood between Lanao del Sur and Bukidnon which are both known to be rich in agricultural lands and farms. “Farmers and buyers shall benefit as crops can be sold and bought at cheaper prices,” he added. The Dream Road project was the brainchild of the late Mamintal M. Adiong, Sr. during his term as Governor of Lanao del Sur in 2001. Some of the funds from the offices of Rep. Ansaruddin “Hooky” Alonto Adiong and ARMM Assemblyman Zia- district of Lanao del Sur, The Department of Pub- handling and monitoring ur-Rahman Alonto Adiong, were allotted for the said lic Works and Highways the implementation of this both representing the first road. of Region 10 is currently P485 million project.

HIGH FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY

An Appetite for Excellence on Beauty and Art Article by CLEMENT DAMPAL II

“Have you ever captured any high fashion-themed images?” This is the question I asked myself when I turned my attention to High Fashion in order to improve my craft in Photography. I’ve been fascinated with Erich Caparas and Von Wong’s innovative and artistic works which continually redefines beauty and arts through Fashion and Editorial themes. There is something on their images which clearly communicate an idea or an emotion. With great inspiration to the visual craft, I opted to create my own style and attempted to combine High Fashion with Travel while adding the conceptual art to Editorial Portraiture. This may seem like an ambitious attempt on combining the ideas but as far as specialization is concerned, I am a diversified lensman. “Fashion Photography is a genre of photography devoted to displaying clothing and other fashion items. It’s often an incredibly experimental medium, and results in innovative and high-concept photography.” – Prakash Ghodke of Tuts Plus Photography Fashion Photography may seem like one of the world’s most sought after professions. According to Cedar Pasori of complex.com, “At its start in 1839, it existed strictly to sell. Today, it reflects a lifestyle, an attitude, and a story comprised of

the subject(s), location, styling, make-up, hair and photographer’s vision.” Fashion Photography is about the message that the image transmits. Since the project is somewhat like an ambitious one, I opened the idea and collaborated with the CDOPP (Cagayan de Oro Photographers Photoshoot), a young and energetic group composed of dynamic, passionate and creative photographers and artists in the region, together with one of the finest stylist in Northern Mindanao- Dio Dius. The Stylist in collaboration with the Creative Director are the ones who contributes greatly to the improvement of the idea. As what Tyra Banks said (on ANTM), “High Fashion doesn’t have to refer what the model is wearing. Sometimes in this big ol’

The Creative Team of Project Waterfall, Photographer: Clement Dampal II

fashion world, low and high are just synonyms for easy and difficult.” The next thing I had is the casting of the models so I contacted them and proposed the ideas. Choosing a model to create a successful result is the “most essential as

it is the main factor that determines the feel of the pictures, no matter where and what clothes she will be wearing”Joaquin Barreto of DPS said. A successful shoot is often the result of creative collaboration

between the Photographers and the team thus, we created an artistic team. It will somehow involves collaboration in the best circumstance while the truth is, there are many challenges to producing this attempted project. We chose a location in order to complement the travel theme with that of the High Fashion and Editorial Portraiture. The first was the Sagpulon Falls in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental but because of unintentional circumstance, we opted to change it and chose Mapawa Nature Park for the Mintugsok Falls. With a short given time, our fellows from the industry went to the area to do the ocular. Another problem existed as the

trail going to the place had a landslide because of the heavy rainfall. To realize the photoshoot project, we decided to choose the backdoor in order to reach the area. Ambitious as it seems, we experienced hillhiking, river trekking and, climbing certain steps for approximately 2 kilometers handholding and backpacking our gears. The experience was worthwhile when we reached our destination. The project aims to combine the aforementioned ideas with simplicity over compositions, and with a variety of settings and styles which is more subdued whereas every detail of the photo may somehow add a story being told, a way of describing a strong sense of reality from artistry on the part of the subject. It is the result of creative collaboration between the photographers, creative directors, the models, and the styling team. The truth is, there are many circumstances in producing a successful photoshoot and that we had to experience. On the last note, my ultimate goal as a lensman is to inspire others, creating their own craftsmanship and transforming that skill into something that captures moment and artistry. As what the saying goes, “Never be fully satisfied with what you’ve done. It is very likely that your best photograph has not yet been captured.”

cause of the regular changing of the seasons in the Philippines. My point has always been that, there will be more death and destruction coming from ferocious rains, rampaging floods, and strong winds, simply because we, as a nation, have stopped listening to God, and are no longer obeying His commands. -oooNATURAL CAL AMITIES WERE FORETOLD BY JESUS: I will say the same thing again today: considering the current realization or occurrence of the Biblical prophecies about global warming and climate change in the whole world, there is no stopping the rains, floods, and winds, from repeatedly visiting us. In fact, Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, gave a specific warning about these calamities, and what we should do to prevail against them, but we are indeed a nation who has forsaken God. Not only have we taken for granted Jesus’ warnings, we have also taken Him for granted. When will we ever learn? -oooOFWs GOING ABROAD, A CURSE FROM GOD: Now, there is a real possibility that the death sentence on Mary Jane Veloso, the Filipina who

was sentenced to die in Indonesia on account of her having transported illegal drugs there, will be carried out soon (some news sources say, could be executed next week). If she ultimately gets killed, it will become yet another outstanding proof of the accuracy and truthfulness of Biblical prophecies. In Deuteronomy 28:15 and 32, we are warned that if a nation no longer listens to God and no longer obeys His commands, its children, boys and girls alike, will be given to other nations (just like what is happening now to our overseas Filipino workers or OFWs), and parents and others in authority will not be able to do anything to help them when they face trouble. Think A Minute

God designed us to enjoy life—the right way that works. God’s commands are not to stop us from having fun. It’s just the opposite! The Bible is simply the manual and instruction book for the human machine, so we can keep enjoying life without hurting ourselves and breaking down. Jesus our Designer shows us His blueprint for success and satisfaction that lasts. But it’s never too late to get your life fixed and working correctly again. So why not ask Jesus Christ to forgive you for living your own way? Then ask Him to take charge so you can start living His right, successful way. It’s the only way you’ll ever enjoy your life fully the way it was meant to work. Just Think a Minute…

Indigenous People to receive livelihood assistance from DSWD By Jamila M. Taha, DSWD

Bukidnon -- More than 1,000 indigenous peoples from the Talaandig tribe in the municipality of Lantapan in this province are going to receive livelihood assistance provided through the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development. The said assistance is in line with the Modified Conditional Cash Transfer for Indigenous Peoples (MCCT-IP) who are in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA). The MCCT-IP is a special program of the department that focuses mainly in the provision of support services to the indigenous peoples. For region 10, DSWD serves 18,901 MCCT-IP beneficiaries. “For a long time we are being neglected and even mistreated sometimes by the general public, and the government who supposed to protect us was not there”, elders of the Talaandig tribe say. “It almost seemed like our children are left behind in terms of education and other basic services, we have dreams for them

too”, they added. “We are just glad that we are now going to receive livelihood assistance from DSWD”. As a celebration of peace and partnership, the tribe offered their rituals and prayers to the whole group. This signifies positivity among the implementers and even more a responsibility to work harder to support these people. As the DSWD secretary Corazon “Dinky” Juliano-Soliman says, “No one should be left behind”. In Mindanao there are a total of 18 indigenous groups collectively known as “Lumad” with a population of about 60% of the overall population of IPs in the Philippines as disclosed by the National Commission on Indigenous People. Global Nomination for Filipino Company By Roger Pe

You may have been offered with the best compensation package by your prospective employer but is money the only reason why you are going for that company? Think again. Think about the little things that are not measured by money alone. The little extras and perks that brighten up your day, which may be much more valuable for your long term career growth. Consider the seemingly little things that you tend to overlook - the training and development opportunities that companies offer you. The road they pave for a brighter career path for you - to become the best that you can be. Consider the things that contribute to your state of happiness. When you are out there ready to face the corporate world, think not only about monetary rewards.

Think about the emotional benefits, too. Chris McKenzie, managing partner of McGladrey USA says: “Competition for talent is tough. But we also know that we must offer more than competitive compensation to keep workers happy. It’s a race without an ending. We’ve got to continue to stay on track and be consistent, because in order to have the highest client engagement level, we need the highest employee engagement level as well,” he says. McKenzie delivered an environment in which workers thrive to boost their morale at work. His firm focused on developing its 540 Boston-based workers through mentoring and training with sponsored outings and work-life balance. Such efforts have earned his company a spot as one of the Best Places to Work in the U.S. for the first time.

In the Philippines, BAVI (Bounty Agro Ventures, Inc.) is shaping up to be a McGladrey so much so that it was nominated as finalist in the global Oscars for people management, the IIP (Investors in People) where companies from 75 countries worldwide participated. Your home is not just a lifestyle, it’s an investment Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental -- Nowadays, condominiums are up and growing especially in the booming cities in the Philippines like Cagayan de Oro. The consistent rise in property developments in Cagayan de Oro shows that more and more Filipinos and foreign investors are embracing the condo life. There are countless reasons why a lot of people believe in the comforts and benefits of the condo life. So to say, here are some of their convincing reasons: • Condominium units are fairly reasonable. Instead of buying a house and lot which takes a long time to build and cost you expensively, investing in a condo unit comes out

affordable and practical. In a condo unit, you don’t have to deal with engineers, architects, and designers as the developer takes care of all of them for you. This brings us why a huge segment of condo dwellers are young professionals and startup families since they can readily accommodate the cost within their budget. Not to mention the availability of financing options that will surely make the purchase of their unit a lot easier for them. • The value of the condo unit appreciates fast. In the case of Primavera Residences, your condo unit appreciates 10-12% annually. In this case, Primavera Residences, an eco-friendly See home, page A11

He who humbles himself will be exalted Special Gospel of the day(July11, 2015-Saturday)Matthew 23:1-12”Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses; therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them. “They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as a finger. “But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments. “They love the place of honor at banquets and the chief seats in the synagogues, and respectful greetings in the market places, and being called Rabbi by men. Therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them: This is a challenge to all servants of God most especially to those who are always preaching the words of God. As evangelist, I am afraid that what I have taught to the public is not applied first in my life because the result is a joke. Take note, the most influential

Biblical reflection

Bro. Edcel L. Closas preaching is not in word but in deed. This is my conviction, to conquer others, let us conquer first ourselves. Before teaching others, let us teach first ourselves for us to become worthy in working in the vineyard of God. There are false teachers around us and I hope that you are not one of them. Matthew 7:2223”Many will say to Me on that day, `Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ “And then I will declare to them, `I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS: Printing paid by: Neneth Ranoa - Bobong BalinoEdith Ranoa, PhD- Tony Jordan – Cagayan De Oro: My new number: 09187148435: God loves you!!!

Edukasyon ang Susi sa Pag-unlad By Luwen T. Villanueva District of Kitaotao II Sinuda Central Elementary School

BENEFITS OF E-CLASS RECORD

By Hazellel Mae C. Sambayon, Teacher II San Jose Elementary School

One of the main function of a teacher is to record and compute the grade or performance of the pupils, may it be authentic task or paperpencil test assessment. With the advent of technology, today’s modern education where about convenience and efficiency. Teachers today are now using the e-class record which made their task faster and easier. Recently, the Department of Education just

released the official and standard templates for e-class record which will be used by all public elementary and secondary school teachers all throughout the country that will start in this school. This template is aptly in line with the K – 12 curriculum grading system. This is what most of the teachers are waiting for because traditional way of computing grades is tire-some and time consuming. Error

is most likely to happen in the traditional way of computing grades since it was manually made by the teachers. To diminish technical issues, the Division of Malaybalay City conducted an orientation to all school ICT coordinators and these ICT coordinators will conduct a school-based orientation to all the teachers on how to employ the e-class record. They will also render technical assistance to those teachers who are new in using the e-class record. Tra-

ditional teachers will also be forced to utilize this innovative breakthrough in Philippine education since it is a mandate from the department. E-class record is an efficacious way of recording the pupil’s performance which will lessen teacher’s task. A teacher’s job is one of the hardest that is why advancement such as eclass record is really an immense advantage to all teachers. This will surely make them more productive in their fields.
