Duterte vows to crush Abu Sayyaf President Rodrigo Duterte has reiterated his commitment to end the Abu Sayyaf terrorist group. Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said the President reiterated his commitment to crush the Abu Sayyaf at the New Year Command Conference with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Malacañang Palace last Friday. “Idiniin din ng Presidente ‘yung kanyang (The President reiterated his) commitment to

end the ASG, ‘yung (the) Abu Sayyaf Group,” Abella said in an interview over Radyo ng Bayan on Saturday. The complainants claimed that based on the said BSP circular, more or less 3,500 MT of gold bars were shipped and deposited in the Bank of Thailand. Cantoria and Perito ar-

gued that the said gold bars can still be recovered and returned to the BSP if it went through the legal process. They added that based on the alleged BSP circular, the gold bars weigh 12.5-kilogram per bar and have “purity” of 99.999 percent. The complainants claimed that Aquino, De Lima, Roxas, Tetangco, Drilon and Purisima approved the “certification of shipment” in December 2014. It can be recalled that the Centennial Energ y Company of Thailand and the Philippine government during the Aquino administration have approved the release of funds in exchange for the said gold bars, which will be used for “humanitarian projects”. BSP lawyer: Documents on alleged shipment of gold to Thailand are ‘spurious’ By Joann Santiago of PNA THE chief legal officer of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Friday clarified issues linking the central bank governor, among others, to alleged illegal shipment of gold reserves to Thailand using an alleged circular for the production of US dollars. The plunder complaint, filed by lawyer Fernando Perito and one Rogelio Cantoria before the Office of the Ombudsman Friday, alleged that President Benigno Aquino III and six others including BSP Governor Amando M. Tetangco Jr., were involved in the alleged illegal shipment of 3,500 metric tons of gold reserves to Thailand. Part of the documents submitted to the Ombudsman is an alleged certification attached to an alleged BSP Circular 0049 Series of 2014. In a statement issued by the BSP Friday night,

BSP Assistant Governor and General Counsel Elmore Capule said they had checked the said document “purportedly emanating from the Office of the Governor on a Personal and Confidential Certification of Circular No. 49 Series of 2014 on the subject of Consolidated Rules and Regulations on the Production of the United States of America Currency Notes.” He said “a cursory examination of the said document readily shows that it is spurious for the following basic reasons:” 1. New Year, same things around MILLIONS of revelers around the globe paraded in the streets to greet the advent of the new year. So nice to see, so noisy from small kids to young adults, people on TV screen, laughing, dancing, hugging, singing, eating and all sorts of joyous festivities ever available. Fireworks from the United States, Germany, London, Russia, Canada, the Philippines lighted the dark skies while music settled the background scenes everywhere. Being alive on such occasion, is really a cause for merrymaking and be extremely happy. It is not new year everyday and for more reason we celebrate it even more. Even the fighting rebels and soldiers in Mindanao declared a ceasefire for them to celebrated Christmas day in their homes and subsequently joined the noise of the new year. Here we see how love among us exist even in the battlefields. As usual deaths were registered in the Philippines when live bullets were fired by some irresponsible

people that included government authorities. Officers are still investigating the matter as hospitals went on with its readiness to treat victims of the celebration. I have seen their laughters for a couple of hours and after that are the sour reality of the same problems, hardships and difficulties in life that surrounded us for many years. Hunger in many places dominated the joyful hours of the new year. In some parts of the world where the sounds of guns and bombs as terrorists did their job to win battles. As church bells rang to announce the new year, some people prayed for world peace after which food was served for the celebration. Others just went out to explode giant firecrackers, whistle bombs, etc. while others had to be rushed to the hospitals for injuries. Some Filipinos prefer to buy small firebombs than rice during the season. As the world was noisy with the celebration, I was at the River Rock Casino in Santa Rosa. California,

enjoying with the thousands of the latest slot machines. Of course with free soda, coffee and crackers that could last the players up to 48 hours playing non stop. When sleepy, I get to the garage and have time inside the car. Northern, California has about eight large casinos with live bands playing continuously. Some casinos offered top celebrities to entertain the gamblers while many are either losing money in card games or the machines. Some years ago, I indulged in ballroom dancing and I attended formal black and white affairs. Later, I found out that dancing involved so much movement and more use of energy. I switched to casino games which most Filipino Americans preferred. It needs walking slowly around the premises, dollar bills and off you go into the fantasy of nowhere. Around the casinos are giant TV screens that features boxing bouts, movies, etc. In short an assorted enjoyments are available to all and certainly no reason to be unhappy.

I imagined same things in our country, same problems, and all sorts of failures and heartaches. Indeed, how could a man who is of confused mind carry a gun in his carry-on luggage and then manage to enter international airports undetected? Every traveller knows he could be arrested at anytime by very strict airport authorities if he had items considered as contraband, particularly a gun, stashed somewhere in his luggage. Many of us who have gone through airport entrances, especially in international airports, also know that it is a virtual “mission impos-

Or were the security personnel simply inefficient and were not paying attention to what their screens were showing? Or, was the traveller with the gun allowed to travel with his gun? But that is not what is important here anymore. And our next steps can set off a chain reaction that may continue the negative theme or change the outlook to an opportunity. Those steps are often directed by our attitude or thoughts. Our attitude stems from self talk. What does your self talk look like? Does it tend to lean toward the negative path? Avoid perpetuating the negative theme. Turn the negative self talk into positive and productive talk giving less attention to the negative. Give more emphasis to the positive and your attitude will begin to change its focus as well. The young and zealous will continue to grab headlines in random acts of terror against security forces or public places. Life bridges WE are all bridge builders during our whole life. I am not talking about the raised platform on a ship or a bridge mounting for false teeth or, as in the bony part of the nose. I am talking about spiritual bridges, establishing connections between us and other people - or, between God and us. Another elementar y example is the “birthday bridge” or the turn of the year, that takes us from the old into a new period of life. A very important bridge in life takes people to me and me to people. It matters not if our skin is black or white, if we are rich or poor, man or woman, being sad or happy. So obvious our daily life is that we might even forget simple things easily. Self-esteem, respect and freedom from anxiety are the necessary and conclusive foundations for this kind of bridge. Small but important bridges every day - how easy are they to be built: gestures of love - like a medicine; a handshake together with commendation and praise, encouraging words, a warm smile, instead of a superficial “How are you?” and the expected “Fine” or “OKAY LANG!”. Allow me to say it clearly and direct to the point: Separations result from crumbled or fit for demolition bridges. Destroyed spiritual bridges can be found at any corner. BYD, China’s leading new-energy vehicle manufacturer, recently unveiled its first light train in Shenzhen at BYD’s headquarters. The train system, “Yungui,” which when translated means SkyRail, costs onefifth of a regular metro line and cuts the construction time by two-thirds, according to BYD chairman Wang Chuanfu. “Compared to metro lines in Beijing and Shanghai, the SkyRail has been tailor-made for smaller cities or the tourist and commercial zones of big cities where a full-developed metro system is not viable” said Wang. BYD is one of at least five Chinese companies capable of producing urban light trains, said Zhong Jianhua, deputy director of the experts committee for China Association of Metros. BYD also manufactures coaches, rails, beams, posts as well as signaling and operation systems. At present, BYD’s electric vehicles are on the road in more than 200 cities in 48 countries and regions around the world. “SkyRail provides urban residents with safe, comfortable and fast mobility while making a real difference to alleviate traffic congestion. BYD is the first privately run Chinese company to enter the mass transit market,” said Chuanfu.

The light train was essentially “Made in China” as about 90 percent of the equipment was produced locally and is expected to become a new driver for growth of China’s rail transport sector. This has now become a national strategy of China. The cost of study of the SkyRail, which was five years in the making, was USD$ 1 billion. More than 20 Chinese cities have subscribed to building such light trains

with a combined rail length of 3,000 kilometers, Zhong said, adding that demand would boost the country’s rail transport sector. The SkyRail, which is easy to maintain, allows a capacity of up to 500,000 passengers per day and has a high speed of up to 80km/h. “The China-made light rail had been equally welcomed in the developing world, particularly in Southeast Asia. Exports may begin when the market is mature,” added Zhong.
