TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte -- Local Government Units (LGUs) in Northern Davao Region have declared state of calamities triggered by incessant raining for more than one week. Davao Oriental has already been declared under state of calamity in a special session that the Sangguniang Panlalawigan held at around 9:30 a.m. on January 24, 2017. Last week, the municipal governments of Cateel and Boston also made a state of calamity declaration due to massive flooding. Provincial Information
Officer Karen Lou Deloso in an inquiry said that Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council (MDDRMC) of Baganga will also be recommending a state of calamity declaration after reviewing the Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (RDANA). DAVAO CITY -- The City Government of Davao welcomes the assistance in form of study from the Japanese government through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency to push the development in the city. City Administrator Atty. Dwight Domingo bared the development study will cover almost everything from zoning, land use, proper solid waste management, transportation and traffic scheme being implemented
in the city, aimed at helping the city move forward. He said the JICA has asked the city government to focus on areas like the city land use plan, massive traffic experienced throughout the city, solid waste management and the flood. “Mayor Sara DuterteCarpio wants the development to spread from the city business district towards agro-tourism and agri-related businesses to the highlands in the third and second districts of the city,” Domingo said.
He said the mayor also wants a study on transport planning, where the city can come up with a massive transport system. Domingo said the current system of waste management manifests problems in waste segregation where most of the residents does not comply. “Most of us Davaoenos is guilty of this concern. We do not segregate,” he said.
