Globe, GCash, Cauayan City ink strategic partnership to deliver 1st world internet

Collaboration includes creation of digital cashless ecosystem for city residents

Globe Telecom and the Cauayan City government have hammered out a strategic partnership to deliver 1st world internet services as well as create a digital cashless ecosystem, which will be undertaken through GCash.

The partnership involves deployment of an integrated network plan to improve mobile coverage and provide high-speed internet service in the city. The rollout forms part of Globe Telecom’s One Digital City initiative, intended to expand network coverage and enhance capacities, particularly for fixed-line, in a bid to elevate the state of the country’s internet.

“Accelerating ICT development enhances inclusive economic development as it significantly improves delivery of public services, enables enterprises to access valuable information and spur transformation in growth areas. We are grateful for the support that the Cauayan city government extended to Globe and we hope to replicate this partnership in other areas in the country,” Globe President & CEO Ernest Cu said.

As part of using technology for governance, GCash, the mobile money platform of Globe, and Cauayan City have embarked on a pioneer initiative to implement the co-branded Citizen ID cards initially for 5,000 government employees and constituents to provide easy access to social and financial services that will bolster the economy forward. Eventually, the IDs will be rolled-out to all 130,000 constituents of the city.

The Citizen ID may be used to electronically pay government fees and taxes, utilities and other bills electronically and purchases from local merchants; for disbursement of salaries, stipends, allowances and other benefits to citizens, government employees and volunteers;

No holiday break in gov’t relief efforts for typhoon Nina victims

A Cabinet official said there is no holiday break in the government’s relief operations to help the victims of typhoon Nina which hit the country on Christmas Day. “So, ngayon ko lang natanto na sa Department of Social Welfare and Development wala palang bakasyon. Kahit holidays nagtratrabaho ang ating mga kagawad, yung ating Disaster Response and Management Bureau, ang mga field offices natin sa Regions 5, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, at NCR, at region 8 dahil nga sa pagdating ng Nina,” said Secretary Judy Taguiwalo of the Department of Social Welfare and Development at a press briefing in Malacanan on Thursday, December 29, 2016.

The Disaster Response and Management Bureau reported the total figures of those affected by Nina are 813 barangays, 206,812 families, and 923, 485 persons.

The Bicol region was the hardest hit as reported by Taguiwalo since Typhoon Nina made several landfalls in the area. Albay has the most number of affected people with 240 barangays and 100,000 families.

The Secretary said assistance in relief goods handed out to the victims of the typhoon amounted to a total of P47,298,500.

The bulk of assistance came from DSWD while some came from the local government units.

“The next generation of branded products, particularly those aimed at difficult-to engage younger consumers, or the more cynical, such as the aging

hipsters of Gen X, are looking at design as a bigger part of the brand, not just to create connections, but to drive experiences.”

Recent innovations in this area include a sports drink that uses pods containing both dry and liquid ingredients to be mixed with water to enable portability and customization, and a facial wash that comes encased with dry mud to encourage the user to engage in a ritual of focus and relaxation.

Another new packaging concept features a wine bottle that comes with a blank label and pencil and featuring Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest logos to encourage consumers to share their personalized label messages on social media.

Finally, Mintel sees

packaging performing a more pivotal role in helping brands successfully enter new categories: “Brands can leverage that familiarity to create loyalty and extend a product portfolio well beyond traditional categories.”

The paper pointed out how Campbell’s has been able to branch out into ethnic cuisine soups, cooking sauces, and meal preparation by using a distinctive look that differentiated the product from the existing range, while still leveraging the brand name.

Carlsberg, on the other hand, has crossed over into premium hair care for men, touting the “beautifying properties” of their beer’s main ingredients, along with a packaging lineup that tied directly to their famous green beer bottle and logo.

Merchandise exports in October rose 3.7 percent for the second consecutive month after the 17-month decline.

He also cited the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) thrust to further strengthen the manufacturing sector that is now growing 7 percent to 8 percent compared to 3 percent to 4 percent in the past.

Ortiz Luis said the DTI also announced it would set aside an initial P1 billion in 2017 for lending to micro and small firms to “discourage borrowers from turning to usurious lenders.”

The funds, which will come from the Office of the President, is targeted to reach P18 billion with each of the region allocated P1 billion.

“Exporters with signed contracts and orders in the first half of the year may expect a windfall as the currency gets to a more competitive level hopefully sustainably,” he added.

The government expects to achieve its $100-billion export revenue target by 2020.
