NFA-Davao City assures rice supply for 33 days

DAVAO CITY -- A top official of the National Food Authority - Davao City Field Office guaranteed that the city has enough supply of rice that will last for 33 days at 350,000 bags of buffer stock.

Rodegary Rongcal, manager of the NFA City Field Office, said they have more than what the required government allocation for Davao Region.

She said with the abnormal weather condition in Davao City, they have been coordinating with the disaster agencies and the Department of Social Welfare and Development, so that the NFA can respond immediately to the rice requirements of affected communities.

“We are open 24-7 to immediately respond once food is needed especially during emergency situations,” Rongcal said.

She said the NFA has signed a memorandum of

agreement with the Davao City government to make rice available during emergency situation less the bureaucratic red tape.

Rongcal however said that the rice production coming solely from Davao Region is no longer sufficient for its food security.

She said few provinces produce rice in the region namely Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte and a portion of Davao Oriental.

“The rice production is insufficient to support the required consumption of the whole Davao Region,” Rongcal said.

She also observed that in Banay-banay, Davao Oriental, rice production has shifted towards seed production, which greatly impacts on the need for grains.

DTI intensifies product standards awareness DAVAO CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Davao Region, through its Consumer Protection Services Division (CPSD), is bent on intensifying its promotion of product standards.

For this year, the agency has lined up a number of activities designed to achieve this goal. This chaotic world, especially our Filipino Nation needs a leader that will spell out difference between the good and evil, between peace and troubled conditions. A leadership that will bring common good to peace and justice lovers and suppress evildoers. A leadership that asserts the rule of law in protecting the welfare of its people.

Extra judicial killings, is a very steamy topic nowadays in the Philippines.

Even before President Duterte rose to presidency, extra judicial killings were already rampant in the previous administrations. Marcos regime for instance, many people have disappeared especially those street fighters without being investigated and just seen in a far flung areas dead. Especially if someone is identified as against the present ruler,

his death is surely to come within the next few days or months. Extra judicial killing in the Philippines is not a new issue. It was a situation happening even before any presidential regimes had dominated the country. Even in the time the Spaniards ruled the Philippines, extra judicial deaths among Filipinos were present.

What is extra judicial killings, a dictionary defined it as a killings by a governmental authorities without due process. This definition strikingly put distinctive idea that a killing is done by a person in authority which can be seen as abusive of their position. How about those undertaken by unknown groups. What a shame to human rights believer. Defending the rights of the suspect and ignoring the life of the abused. It is a situation of a state, where evildoers are being protected.

In a democratic society, anyone seen committing the crime with many witnesses, still considered innocent? Or adjudged guilty after trials or being condoned for self-defense?

Some would say democracy is not at all times a good choice. It is prone to abuse by moneyed and people in power which left the common poor starved of a justice he deserved.

In today’s condition, extra judicial killing may not be an option for a nation to be at peace. The nation should have a strong leader to do good for the people who wanted peace and harmony and justly punish those evildoers, for some people especially those influential are generally abusive if leaders are weak.

Located at Barangay Crossing, in the humble town of Libona, Libona National High School is an institution known for its award-harvesting students and faculty. The school never gets crossed out from the list of outstanding schools. More or less than 2,100 students are enrolled in the school and the faculty and staff consist of 81 people. 4 are non-teaching, 23 are non-advisers, and the rest manage classes.

As you enter the majestic entrance of the institu-

tion you’re welcomed by the dumbfounding elegance of the landmark. It is brownthemed garnished with colorful plants and flowers.

Two water fountains stood in the opposite corners of the landmark making it more classy. At t the center of the whole school. It seems to be the counterpoint of two cemented pavements leading to different parts of the school. It is also surrounded by the colorful landscapes which made the school look more blithesome.

Every corner of the school shouts excellence and success. Every brick is power, every beam means strength.

There are concerns that the Makilala incident could affect the ongoing peace talks between the Government of the Philippines (GRP) and the National Democratic Front (NDFP) and may prompt the com-

munist revolutionaries to lift its unilateral ceasefire especially that there is an ongoing pursuit operations against an armed group allegedly involved in harassment and extortion activities in the area.

Soldiers of the 39 Infantry Battalion and operatives of Makilala Municipal Police Station in North Cotabato are now conducting manhunt operations against the lawless armed groups involved in extorting a driver of a construction company.

In a report from the 10th Infantry Division, at about 5:30 a.m. of Jan. 22, the military and operatives of Makilala Municipal Police Station were fired by unidentified armed groups.

A 30-minute firefight ensued. Troops recovered from the site three highpowered rifles, several personal belongings and a body of an unidentified man.

On Jan. 21, the police and soldiers were conducting a joint operation to arrest the groups behind the harass-

ment and extorting a truck driver from a construction company around 5:00 p.m.

While on their way, an armed group fired upon the operatives that resulted in an hour-long exchange of gunfire.

Earlier at around 2:10 p.m. of Jan. 20, the office of Santos Land Development Corporation reported to the Makilala Police Station that a company driver, Delio Tongcos, was harassed by four armed men riding in tandem on-board two

motorcycles at Purok Pili Nut, Malasila, Makilala, North Cotabato.

The driver of the 10-wheeler truck reported that armed men fired at him and threatened the management will suffer the consequences if they fail to give in to their extortion demands. The armed men forcibly took the key of the said truck and escaped immediately.

The Makilala PNP immediately responded and requested the assistance of

39th Infantry Battalion for the pursuit of the armed extortionists who escaped towards Barangay Biangan, Makilala, North Cotabato.

Peaceful community is the ultimate vision of a peace-loving individual.

It is in fact everybody’s dream, a peaceful and serene environment that foster development and prosperity for all its inhabitants.

How can a nation especially the Philippines, achieved peace?

In today’s state of the nation, where criminality and drugs abuse destroy the moral fibers of our society, it is imperative to have a leader with strong political will to institute

changes and implement policies for the benefit of the people.

Usage and sale of illegal drugs from everywhere here on earth are rampant. It was considered a very big business among group of people who want best for their lives while destroying the life of those who mistakenly decide to use that stuff for whatever reasons.

Once under the influence of illegal drugs it is likely that crimes will be committed.

NGCP reaches out to CDO flood victims

THE National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) activated its relief operation last Friday in Cagayan de Oro City to reach out to victims of the January 16 flooding.

NGCP regional public affairs officer Mae Roselle Curiano said that the privately-owned company was able to give plastic containers of relief goods to 300 families in barangay Carmen covered court.

The contents of each plastic container are the following – first aid kit,

shirt, flashlight, slippers, toothpaste, spoon and fork, toothpaste, disposable cup, shampoo, canned goods, rice, sanitary pad, blanket, water, toothbrush, underwear and powdered energy drink.

Curiano hoped that these goods could help in the immediate needs of the flood victims whose houses were damaged when urban flooding hit the main and suburban thoroughfares of the city last January 16.

In the past year, NGCP was able to assist 3,000 families in Isabela, Cagayan and Aurora in the aftermath

of typhoon Lawin last October. Two months later, the company was able to help 500 families in Naga City in the aftermath of typhoon Nina. Just earlier this month, it was able to help 70 families in Butuan City following the rage of typhoon Auring.

Beyond its post-calamity operations, NGCP is planning to hold disaster preparedness seminars in its host communities. Curiano said they are planning to hold such seminars in Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon, Agusan del Norte, Bicol and Cagayan within this year.
