Benefit concert for Davao Museum slated

DAVAO CITY -- A classical concert will be held for the benefit of the Davao Museum History and Ethnography will be held in Davao City this January 23, 2017, at the ballroom of Marco Polo Davao.

“SONATA, An Evening of Classical Music and Filipino Art Songs” featuring soprano Stefanie Quintin, and classical guitarist Anton Luis Avila aims to raise funds for the museum’s exhibits and programs.

Davao Museum celebrating its 40th year was in 1977 on a donated lot in Insular Village in Lanang district, it has sustained its operations through the generous support of patrons, private and corporate sponsors, the media, the academe, and the Southern Mindanao communities. It is being managed by the Davao Museum Foundation, Inc. The event held in partnership with Marco Polo Davao will feature the Manila-based duo Stefanie Quintin and Anton Luis Packing of relief goods.Staff and volunteers of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) pack the relief goods from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to serve the 1,683 flood victim families who Avila.

BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Agriculture (DA) in Caraga welcomed its new OIC Regional Executive Director Alberto Ocampo, Jr. in a brief turnover ceremony on January 16, 2017 at its office here.

Prior to his new post, Director Ocampo was the Chief Agriculturist of the Field Programs Coordination and Monitoring Division of DA central office.

He has been in government

service for 35 years.

During the turnover rite, outgoing OIC Regional Executive Director Renato Manantan handed to Director Ocampo the key of responsibility and DA-13’s 2017 Plan and Budget documents. Manantan held the position for six months.

Now, at a time when educators are courageously raising the bar for student achievement higher than ever before, the job of teacher has never been more critical to the success of our children and to the prosperity of our nation.

It’s been a long time scenario on the lives of the School Head that there is no permanency in terms of school residency. As mandated by the Department of Education, all school heads are oblige to extend service to different schools within the division as insurgency of service arises.

I have been a school head since 2009 until at present with different experiences for the past three school assignments. It was then, when I was promoted from Head Teacher 1 to School Principal 1 that I encountered insults and felt unbearable heartache caused by this person with maximum insecurities in life who was our own stakeholder in my new school assignment who happened to be our SGC President who accused me of malversation of funds for a reason of not informing him first before implementation of the project in school which was the flooring of the school covered court through the use of MOOE

Frankly speaking, when I received my advice order issued by the OIC- office of the Schools Division Superintendent, Division of Bukidnon, I had the hesitation in accepting the new assignment. Upon receiving the advice order, I visited the school. I found out that there was no MOOE utilization for the past three years thus, operation of the school for the day to day activities were hindered and disrupted leading to low school academic performance.

Aside from that, there was no School office where I can perform my duties during Instructional Supervision where preconference and post conference done.

Aside from that, there was a need to adjust to the new environment, new faces, practices and customs in the community.

Within my first two months service as the new School Principal, I was able to restore the MOOE utilization which normalized school operation as seen in

It was because it was the first time I was accused of malversation of funds despite of my boundless effort to do my best to help

improve the school by a person who have been experiencing euphoria for a decade in the school where he extended his service as SGC President.

Accusation and insults thrown to me were all turn into positive ways which led to boast more confidence, integrity and honor on my part as the school principal. To lighten my heavy heart, I went to the Police Station to blotter the incident happened in the office, then went to the Barangay office to file a formal complaint to the concerned person.

After a thorough examination done by the Barangay Captain, I learned that he was once a frustrated engineer which led to his insecurities in life.

But damaged has been done, the aroma of doing for the best in school was lost due to traumatic experienced I encountered.

I soon realized that you cannot pleased everyone.

I always bear in mind that what is important is the courage to do the best of my abilities to serve the Department of Education and to face such great challenges in the near future.

BULLYING – The Role of School in Bullying

in school grounds during recess, lunch and other place in school. School should have a zero tolerance programs that make it clear that bullying is not tolerated. School-based program can help reduce bullying when they: Raise bullying assembly and classrooms discussion of the problem.

Conversation should include teaching healthy ways to control anger. They should teach value of cooperation,

positive communication skills and friendship and help settle an accident and talk with all students involved.

Bullying is not something school and families should take lightly. It is repeated negative behavior that takes advantage of less-powerful person and sometimes even makes the student who is bullied feel at fault. Hitting, calling names shunning and shaming are all forms of

bullying. So are spreading rumors, gossiping and making threats on line. School staff members who knows the facts and work as a team to prevent and address bullying improve the school climate and prevent further incidents .The main forms of bullying harassment in school maybe because of physical appearance, actual or perceived sexual orientation and other gender expression or identity.

STS says “No School left behind”

Pursuant to DepEd Order no. 83, s. 2012 of which revised SBM framework and APAT (Assessment, Process and Tool) is anchored, School to School (STS) Partnership Program was crafted to support the school which log behind. DepEd believes that cooperation between and among schools could instigate valuable outcomes as each school will be driven to help one another in reaching their full potential. This program is intended for low performing schools in the division of Bukidnon to help boast the performance indicators of the partner school through the facilitation from a leader school.

Lagislis Elementary School was grateful to be one of the pilot implementer of the said program together with its leader school Spring Elementary School from Kibawe District. Though the connotation of being a partner school gave undesirable impression for the others, but for LAGISLIS ES, it’s a blessing! Having all the improvements and be able to

work with an outstanding and very fatherly school leader is indeed a wonderful experience. It helped not only to improve the physical structures of the school, but also to revive the confidence among the stakeholders of the partner school. STS is timely in saving the remaining hope among the stakeholders towards preparation of School Based Management (SBM) Validation.

Truly, School to School Partnership Program is of great assistance to those schools in need. Somehow, the program also relatively reflect what a school leader should be. If all the schools were being capacitated just like the experiences gained among stakeholders of Lagislis ES, for sure there will be “No School left behind”. May this program continue so that more school will receive the same opportunity in transforming the school into a conducive place to learning . And may authorities designate a reliable and committed to service school leaders.

The advent of technological advances brought a lot of changes in the operations of the present society. This event is particularly observable of today’s young generations which were called as “millennial”. It is inevitable to see youngster’s even oldies without using any gadgets.

Gadgets serve as an easy way to access information and communicate around the world. The trends are fast changing including the role of education in this 21st century.

Attitudes and behaviors of learners are directly influenced with all these trends. Isolated learners may sound as obsolete description of today’s learners even they belong in secluded areas.

With this, it is a necessity among the educators of this generation to capacitate themselves to cope up these challenges. What the millennial needs now are GURO21 teachers?

GURO21 or Gearing Up Responsible and Outstanding Teachers in the Southeast Asia for the 21st Century is a menu of flexible learning courses to address teachers’ need in relation to the technologi-

cal advances and changing educational trends of the 21st century. If there’s one place where learning should take place, it’s in schools.

But despite the time teachers dedicate to educating their students, many fear there are too few quality training opportunities for staff. There is no denying that the profession of teaching is evolving faster than ever.

While the core purpose — transmitting knowledge to the next generation — remains extremely important, the realms of teacher selection, accreditation and assessment are changing very swiftly. Moreover, increasing demand for human capital, due to the rise of the knowledge-based society and the expansion of new technologies, are also impacting the profession.

K -12 PROGRAM: A STEP TO TAKE ON Are we ready to embrace changes in our Philippine “Educational System? This is the question that bombards us in the implementation of the k-12 program. Republic Act No. 10533 known as the “ Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 was implemented by the Department of Education as a new curriculum called K -12 education system under the administration of President Noynoy Aquino. This program covers 13 years old of basic education which includes 3 stages: kindergarten to grade3, grades 4-6, grade 7-10 which is the junior high school and grades 11-12, the so called senior high school. There are various reason why we are implementing additional 2 years basic education.

First, the Philippines is the last country in Asia and one of the only three countries worldwide within 10 year pre-university cycle.

Second a 2 year program is found to be the best period for learning under basic education. It is also the recognized standard for students and professionals globally. There will be no need to study again and spend more money in order to qualify for international standards. Third, with K-12 students will have a sufficient in, making instructional time for subjectrelated task, making their more prepared in every subject area. With the old system, Filipino students were consistently behind on achievement scores. In 2008, for instance, international test results revealed that Filipinos were behind compared to other countries. Fourth, the graduates of this program will be more prepared to enter the labor force considering the number of year they are trained, thus making them equipped and competent for the workplace.

This 2015, we are getting ready for the implementation of Senior High School for school year 2016-2017.

All 221 divisions of the Department of Education have finished planning and have figures on enrolment a year in advance. These plans were reviewed by a separate team and finalized upon consultation with other stakeholders.

DepEd has built additional classrooms for senior high school nationwide. Additional teachers will be hired to teach in the core and specialized subjects for senior high school.

Though we are known to be competitive in the international community, our current education system hinders us in becoming more competent among other countries. However, it is undeniable that there will be problem to arise during its full implementation which would include the lack of budget, classrooms, teachers, and textbooks. But let us take the challenge to resolve these concerns as we venture to Improve our educational system.
