GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- Sultan Kudarat province’s 11 municipal mayors reiterated their full support to President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s continuing war against illegal drugs, recently.

The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP)-Sultan Kudarat chapter issued the declaration after attending a meeting called by the President in Malacanang last week.

Mandaya tribesmen ask gov’t protection

GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- The municipal government of T’boli in South Cotabato has launched a series of training programs for its “tourism frontliners” in line with the anticipated influx of visitors in the coming months to its famed ecotourism sites.

T’boli Mayor Dibu Tuan said Monday the training cover modules designed to enhance the capabilities of local tourism workers, especially those engaged in various activities at the crater-lake Holon, the town’s

primary tourist attraction.

He said the initiative mainly caters to tourist drivers, tourist guides, porters, horse drivers and other tourism workers.

“This is part of our efforts to improve the services at our tourist destinations to attract more visitors,” he said.

The mayor ordered the temporary closure effective Jan. 7 of the 304-hectare Lake Holon to give it some “breathing time” after hosting thousands of visitors last year.

The closure, which runs until March 10 or a total of 63 days, is the third for the critical lake in four years.

Aside from resting the lake, Tuan said the local government will rehabilitate the existing cottages and other tourism facilities at the site.

He said they will also conduct a biodiversity assessment of the area in coordination with environmental experts.

TEACHERS should study their school’s evaluation criteria and prepare for their own review, making the most of a process that despite its flaws, can improve their teaching and make an impression on their principal.

Teachers will be judged

on some combination of learning objectives, student test scores, peer feedback, lesson plans, parent surveys, student work, a portfolio and examples of professional learning and observations.

Second, you should build a relationship with principals, clearly understanding that administrators are busy.

Teachers should encour-

age walkthroughs and visits. This sort of formative observation can generate good relations, provide an opportunity for feedback and refinements and deflate observation pressure.

Once you understand the process, break down how you’ll make your case. Know what is expected and then write down how you will show evidence for each task.

U4U: Free Condoms for You?

About 170 select students were given the opportunity to join the U4U Teen Trail on November 19, 2015 at Kitubo National High School. After more than a year, how are the students doing with regards adolescent sexuality awareness and sex education?

At present, a controversial issue of distributing condoms to sexually active students struck most educators. Those from Kitubo National High School were not excluded. It has be-

come a topic that reminded me as the former guidance coordinator who exhausted effort to bring U4U to our place. U4U (You-for-You) is a youth caravan initiative to increase the awareness of Adolescent Sexuality and Reproductive Health (ASRH) in select Philippine schools.

This activity aims to improve access to quality information on sexual and reproductive health and services for Filipino Youth.

ics, Araling Panlupinan, Edukasyon Sa Pagpapakatao and MAPEH. It enable the learners to understand best as it is presented in the language they understand best. In a cognitive aspect, the learners will easily engage to move well and will be able to participate actively as they express their self vividly which will make them think critically.

“As local chief executives, we have a big role in the total eradication of illegal drugs especially in our communities,” Abalos said in an interview.

As show of support, he said the 11 municipal governments in the province are conducting another round of random drug tests for officials and employees.

He said the move is also aimed to ensure that workplaces of local governments in the area are free from illegal drugs.

The mayor said they will also regularly monitor the progress of illegal drug operations in their areas and provide the necessary support to the police and other law enforcement units.

In coordination with the barangay councils, he said they will assist also police units in terms of tips or intelligence information on local illegal drug personalities, especially those considered as high-value targets.

“We will do our best and pursue the necessary efforts to make our towns free from illegal drugs,”Abalos said.

The official stressed that residents of the province are against the proliferation of illegal drugs and warned individuals and groups engaging on them that local authorities are closely watching them.

“Our governor, Sultan Pax Mangudadatu, had declared that drug pushers and users have no place in Sultan Kudarat and that still stands,” Abalos added.

THIS is an unsolicited advice to all students out there, especially those who are about to graduate in junior high and about to enter senior high. Be an active participant in your own education. Your education will shape everything about your future income, whether you’ll become rich or remain poor. Remember that only one percent of us inherit our wealth. The rest comes from hard work. And you cannot work if you are not educationally qualified.

That is why amidst all the rising youthful hormones that you have, you need to internalize being a young

adult and be responsible for your education.

That means you need to study hard. Anyway, friendship bondings still abound by creating study groups. In that way, you can balance serious studying with pleasure. The education that you’ll be receiving is in many ways the basis of the rest of your life and the basis of your career.

We have all been hearing the same spiel from adults in our lives about why school is important since we started kindergarten.

If you don’t believe in the value of your education, you probably wouldn’t succeed in life.

It has been viewed that QUALITY EDUCATION is the pillar of success.

Our educational system has been restructured to ensure the so called quality education. And the latest is the K to 12 which was introduced last 2011.

It lengthened our basic schooling from 6 years elementary and 4 years in high school to 7 years ,which include kinder as prerequisite to Grade I, and 6 years in high school.

Why this is so? Is this really the answer to achieve the 21st skills we need to compete globally and be successful? We are living

in the revolutionary world and the extent of changes’ success depend of having these skills.

Critical thinking, problem solving, information literacy, global awareness and mastery of different knowledge from simple to complex are not new. Even Plato wrote this in THE REPUBLIC, the level of intellect. Can we really afford to have these so called quality education? There are so many program of Deped to achieve this.

Agusan del Norte governor as new Caraga RPOC chair THE Regional Peace and Order Council 13, with its mission to harmonize peace and development programs and policies through the implementation of a strategic and comprehensive plan, capacity building, encouraging partnership and strengthening linkages with LPOCs and other mandated institutions, has named its new RPOC Chair and Vice Chair on the recently concluded RPOC Meeting for the 1st Quarter of CY 2017 on January 12, 2017 at Big Daddy’s Hotel and Convention Center.

Education has been revolutionized by DIY learning.

With the click of a button, learners can find online courses, video clips and educational games to help aid

their education. Websites like Google, YouTube and Wikipedia have made informal eLearning so accessible and tools like mysimpleshow can be used to create educational video content as a resource for eLearning and DIY learners. With Google, you can find any information that you need in a matter of seconds, YouTube does the same but in a visual format and Wikipedia allows you to be informed by a variety of people.

The benefits of DIY learning with video are plentiful.

DIY learners take responsibility and control of their own learning by creating or watching videos on a computer, smartphone or tablet at anytime anywhere.
