RCWestCDO conducts med outreach, 6 other activities

“A PERSON with a joyful spirit doesn’t easily get tired and is always disposed to do good.”

Guided by this, the Rotary Club of West Cagayan de Oro (RCWestCDO) conducted another Medical Mission, dubbed as “MM2”, in Barangay Bayanga, Cagayan de Oro City, last November 26, from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm.

The medical outreach is just one of the seven activities lined-up for that day as an early Christmas treat to the constituents of the

village.

Ms. Erna Maagad, the club’s incumbent president, Past District Governor (PDG) Aldrico “Al” Manus and Rookie Rotarian Joseph Allan Escobar led the club’s collective efforts to deliver the timely services to the people.

“The best way to deliver an outreach is to give multiple services that will cater to the different needs of our local folks,” PDG Manus said.

Airene Orion-Suan, RCWEST –CDO Public Image Director Genuinely certified generous Rotarians of ROTARY CLUB OF WEST- CDO wholeheartedly spent their annual Christmas Party with the Children of Calabrian Foundation at Lumbia Cagayan de Oro City last December 17, 2016. A whole day full of fun and laughter were evidently visible in the faces and eyes of the Rotarians much more to the children’s side who received various gifts such as school supplies and stuff toys plus other rewards and prizes during the trivia and games prepared for them. Sumptuous lunch with unlimited sweets and ice cream were shared and served by the young at heart Rotarians of RCWEST-CDO along with some kind-hearted sponsors to the grateful children of the Calabrian Foundation who also showed off their God’s given talent in dancing and singing. TEACHERS BEYOND INFLUENCE OF TECHNOLOGY

In this era when a classroom teacher is confronted with convergence of technology for education, will Henry Adams quote which states “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops” be a reality?

In the 21st century teaching and learning, a clamor for both the teachers and learners to be technologically advantaged is increasing. It is already a fact that technology has played a huge role in man’s daily undertakings and education has not been excluded. Computers become an integral part of the students from

interactive class discussions to creating multi-media projects. For the teachers, a computer helps him save effort in grade computation, preparing audio-visual aids, SIM-making and research to name a few. When teachers use technology in carrying out his task in the classroom, it is obviously giving an edge to his teaching strategies as students at present prefer digital learning than the traditional teaching with lecture-discussion method.

Hence; let not technology exchange teachers to be the influence in education. Rather, since teachers are real agents of change, technology has to be just the aid of teachers. Such can only be given when the

teacher thinks that the students are the most important persons in school.

The teacher may have a clear philosophy to follow.

Through this philosophy, he will be able to address the needs of the learners in whatever consequence by thinking that the most important component in the learning situation is the learner and that all activities inside the classroom should be directed to the achievement of the educational goals.

For a teacher, he needs no extraordinary talent.

He just has to care to maintain Henry Adams statement of going beyond what he can influence to his students.

The Benefits of Blended Learning

THERE are indeed lots of benefits for blended learning. For one thing, blended learning is more effective than pure classroom or online instructions. That’s because students can work on their own with new concepts which frees teachers up to circulate and support individual students who may need extra attention.

Teachers can streamline their instruction to help all students reach their full potential. So basically,

students who have higher IQ need only minimal supervision while students who have a hard time catching up must be given extra attention by the teacher.

This incorporation is a major contributor to student satisfaction and success. By incorporating information technology into class projects, communication between lecturers and students has improved and students are able to better evaluate their understanding of the subject matter.

Bl e n d e d l e ar n i ng also has the potential to reduce educational expenses. Consider this – putting classrooms in the online space replaces pricey textbooks with electronic devices that students often bring themselves to class. Ebooks can be easily accessed digitally after all.

Blended learning allows for personalized education, replacing the model where a teacher stands in front of the classroom and everyone is expected to stay at the same pace.

GAD SEMINAR WORKSHOP

Last December 1-2, 2016, held in Kitubo NHS the seminar workshop.

The workshop was spearheaded by our ever dynamic school head Teresita C. Miranda, GAD focal members, and teachers.

It was a two day seminar, for day 1, the respondents are the students and for day 2, the respondents are teachers, PTA officers and stakeholders.

The seminar was conducted pursuant to Deped Order No. 27, s. 2013, the provisions of the section 36-b of Republic act known as Magna Carta of Women(MCW) of RA

No. 9710, all government agencies are mandated to establish and institutionalize the GAD Focal Point system.

It was known by everybody that “Gender and Development” was not made clear especially its importance. In addition to this, there is confusion on the use of the word “gender” and the nature of men and women.

Based on “Gender Mainstreaming Guidelines for UNDP Moldov” by Cristina Vaileanu, that “gender” is the different role played by men and women in the society as time changes.

But as humans- man and woman are different in na-

ture, started when she/ he was born and it will never be changed. One example is only woman can bear a child. Other than these, women can do what man can. One best example is the Philippine President. It was Corazon C. Aquino, the first woman President.
