CAGAYAN de Oro City-Coconut farmers in Misamis Oriental is expected to boost their productivity with the annual celebration of the weeklong Kuyamis Festival which kicked off Monday. Now on its fourth year, the festival converted the Provincial Capitol grounds into an agri-fair with Misamis Oriental towns displaying their mainly coconutbased local products. Coal combustion products Fly ash, also known as “pulverised fuel ash” in the United Kingdom, is one of the coal combustion products, composed of the fine particles that are driven out of the boiler with the flue gases. Ash that falls in the bottom of the boiler is called bottom ash. In modern coal-fired power plants, fly ash is generally captured by electrostatic precipitators or other particle filtration equipment before the flue gases reach the chimneys. Together with bottom ash removed from the bottom of the boiler, it is known as coal ash. Depending upon the source and makeup of the coal being burned, the components of fly ash vary considerably, but all fly ash includes substantial amounts of silicon dioxide (SiO2)

THE Steag State Power, Inc. (SPI) assured the public that the incident in Bataan involving a coal-fired power plant won’t happen in Misamis Oriental. In an interview earlier,
SPI Corporate Communications Officer Jerome Soldevilla told Mindanao Daily News that its power facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies that reduce or eliminate pollution. The SPI operates a 232MW coal-fired power plant in Villanueva town in
Misamis Oriental. It went into commercial operation on November 15, 2006. Soldevilla said: “We have put in place a bag filter that collects dust. For more than 10 years since the start of our operations in 2006, we have sustained an ash disposal mechanism that is safe and fully compliant

BUTUAN City––Two days of unabated heavy rains in Caraga brought by Tropical Depression “Auring” caused widespread flooding and forced 3.493 families or 14, 491 persons to leave their homes and to seek shelter in 76 evacuation centers across the region. TD “Auring”, packing 55 kilometers per hour winds near the center and gustiness of 70 kph made a landfall
over Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte at around 3 pm on Sunday, January 8, 2017. According to Office of Civil Defense-Caraga Director Rosauro Arnel Gonzales Jr., 72 barangays in 30 towns and this city were affected by the tropical depression. Another of their daughter, St. Therese’s elder sister Leonie Martin, the so-called “black sheep” in the Martin family but who eventually became a nun, is also a candidate for sainthood.
