Vice Mayor Shirlyn Bañas-Nograles said Wednesday the city government is fully supporting the passage of House Bill (HB) 4678 that seeks the city’s separation from the first district of South Cotabato and the creation of a lone legislative district for the area.

Abella said promoting the urban container gardening concept follows the 10-point agenda of Mayor Sara Duterte. Sara’s administration aims to promote food security and food safety.

It is possible to create a small edible garden no matter how small one’s backyard is, Abella said.

The urban container garden showcase occupies a small area but has various plants including pechay, lettuce, tomatoes and okra. ”Hopefully, Davaoeños will learn how to make themselves sustainable by having food right in their backyard,” she said.

Public warned: Beware of nationwide ECC scam THE Employees Compensation Commission (ECC) on Wednesday warned the public of a nationwide scam initiated by people purportedly connected with the ECC, an executive said Wednesday.

Stella Banawis, ECC executive director, said that

a letter is now circulated nationwide, asking ECC beneficiaries to pay a certain amount in exchange for ECC benefits.

Banawis said that the letter reportedly bears the signature of a certain Arnold Magalong who claimed to be the secretary of ECC

Board of Directors.

She said that the letter also mentioned a certain Atty. Arnold Ford as the alleged chair of the ECC international board of directors.

“The letter alleged that in order to be entitled to the ECC benefits, a beneficiary

has to attend to all paid ECC seminars, meetings and conventions,” Banawis said.

To have a good relationship among our fellow teachers is of much importance and significance as it will definitely affect ou r work i ng b ehav i or t ow ard s t h e m , t h at i s why as teachers, we must cultivate a good and har-

m o n i o u s r e l at i o n s h i p with our fellow teachers.

Moreover, if we have a good relationship, we c an e asi ly share ide as and thoughts on how we can improve our teaching skills and schemes and how we can better

impart it to the learners.

Through it, the sharing of ideas will go smoothly as one is ver y eager and confident if they are okay with each other.

Also, having a good relationship will somehow ease or minimize the

Improve School Academic Performance is one of the goals in the Department of Education that need projects and innovation in order to achieve. To pull the school behind term of School Performance Indicator, the DepEd initiated a program to help the low performing schools.

to be the partner to share the good performing practices made by the high performing school.

Conduct and Seminar and workshop for Six days ( Saturdays and Sundays ) in the creation of Instructional materials in all subject areas in every grading period, purchased of educational and manipulative toys and sports equipment and school supplies for teachers and pupils are the activities made base on the needs of the school as raised during

the meeting conducted.

School to School partnership between Calapaton ES and Metebagao ES of kitaotao –District with 133,000.00 pesos budget given by the Department of Education was successfully implemented and a great help for teacher,pupils and parents .It lightens the burden of the school in term of financial, time and learning management for the school aiming to raise high the performance level of the school.

In countries where English is not the first language, many parents and communities believe their children will get a head – start in education by going “straight English” and by passing home language.

Many government are now making English as an official national language.

Their motivation behind this is to grow their economic and improve the career prospect of their younger generations.

However, research finding consistently show that learners benefit from using their home language in education in early grade years. Yet, many devel-

oping countries continue to use other language for teaching in their school.

First learning does not begin in school. Learning starts at home in learners home language. Although the startof school is a continuation of this learning.

It also presents significant changes in the mode of education.

On starting school children find themselves in a new physical environment.

The classroom is new, most of the classmates are strangers, the center of the authority is the teacher is also a stranger. the structured way of learning is new also, there was an abrupt change

in language of interaction .Its quite complicated indeed, it can negatively affect a child progress.

However, by using learner’s home language, the school can help children navigate the new environment and bridge their learning at school with experience the bring home.

By using learners home language, learners are more likely to engage in the learning process. It gives learners confident and help to affirm their cultural identity. This turn as a positive impact on the way the learners see the relevance of school in their lives.

Promoting nationalism and patriotism among students

According to Mark Twain, “In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.”

As the Department of Education upholds and lives up one of its core values, the “Maka-bansa”, the Department has always been ardent and eager in instituting measures to better instill in the hearts and minds of students the value of nationalism and

patriotism. Moreover, in a school setting, administrators and teachers are doing their best in monitoring students who do not attend the Flag Raising ceremony because of being late and tardiness.

Some have imposed school offenses and sanctions if one is caught being late and not attending the ceremony.

Patriotism, according to Wikipedia is defined as an attachment to the homeland. This attachment can be viewed in terms of different features relating to one’s

own homeland, including its ethnic, cultural, political or historical aspects and it encompasses a set of concepts closely related those of nationalism.

And yes, however, patriotism and nationalism is not only shown by attending Flag Raising ceremonies but there is definitely more to it.

Like, we can shoe our love to our country by taking care of its natural resources and the environment, by taking care of and cultivating the Philippine soil with utmost com-

mitment. Like not littering inside the school premises, or simply at all not causing any harm to any Filipino entity.

And as teachers, yes we can do it by setting as a good example first to our students.

Of course, we cannot share what we do not have, that is why, let us first live and promote nationalism and patriotism among ourselves so that we may be able to effectively communicate it as well to our students and to the community.

FIGHTING MALNUTRITION

Calapaton Elementar y School of Kitaotao- 1 District benefited the feeding program given by the Department of Education. Ever y year nu t r i t i o n a l s t at u s o f the pupils were closely monitored by the District nurse. These includes the height, weight of the pupils, proper hygiene also like tooth brushing and hand washing to ensure

the children in school are in good health to avoid sickness that will lead to absenteeism and drop out.

Based on the nutritional status made Calapaton Elementary School ES rep or ted nineteen (19) pupils recorded as severely under weight, underweight and wasted.

Nine pupils were from kindergarten, two pupils from grade two, four from

grade four, 3 are grade five and 1 grade six pupil. These pupils were given pHp 18 feeding program budget per pupil for the period of 120 days.

For nineteen pupils of Calapaton ES the budget amounted to thirty six thousand, four hundred eighty pesos (36,480.00).

B efore t he fe e ding started the parents of n i ne te e n pupi ls we re informed and oriented and they volunteered to cook for their children.

The parents agreed that they will report in school as scheduled in cooking until the feeding program will be finished. The 20 days cycle menu to follow during the schedule in cooking also introduced by the school feeding coordinator.

Teachers, pupils and parents not only benefitted pupils were very thankful to DepEd feeding program. As they said this will surely help the pupils attendance in school.

Distance Education is a new, global technology education to facilitate easy, immediate learning and interaction for communicators, teachers,students in education program. It can provide mass-education to everyone. It leads people to learn individually and shift responsibility for learning from instructors to students.

To be effective, distance education programs need to redefine the roles of teacher and students in the learning-teaching process.

The technology changes every life style of human activity become fast, global and time-critical. The computer facilitates speedy access to useful information, social cultural and educational competitiveness are influenced by educational technologies that positively affect style, duration and method of

learning for group or individual.

Distance education refers to teacher and students separated by physical distance and it is expanding rapidly as it gains worldwide acceptance by the students and educational institutions, employer organization and public at large. It makes educational accessible to underserved population and flexible into complex , life style schedule and responsibility of todays learners. Instead of travelling to attend regularly scheduled classes at a teachers-centered campus, students can access internet courses virtually anywhere.

For social development, education should be a leader in providing easy access to knowledge, effective ways to learn and growth opportunities for qualified people.
