DAVAO CITY -- Some 7,814 families were affected while one casualty was recorded brought by flooding incident due to heavy rains in Davao Region since last Wednesday. MATI CITY, Davao Oriental -- The Davao Oriental provincial government is tapping funding support from agencies for their infrastructure development in the province to further push growth and global competitiveness. Governor Nelson Dayanghirang said the move which seeks to put up key infrastructure facilities will help the province prop up its emerging tourism industry. Dayanghirang said having more infrastructures will help provide livelihood and income to the province’s poor constituents.
He stressed the province’s need to further develop the province’s tourism valuechain to support the already established world-class tourism destinations. Last week, a composite team from Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and USAID Compete Project have met with the heads of the Provincial Government to discuss the province’s laid-out plans on infrastructure development. In the meeting, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Freddie Bendulo showed the proposed plans of the province to build ports as well as roads that will greatly
support the development of the province’s economic and tourism industries. “Davao Oriental, as part of the Southeastern Mindanao Corridor, has an immense potential to contribute to the overall development of Mindanao,” he said. Ednar Dayanghirang, Chief of Staff at the Provincial Governor’s Office, emphasized the need for infrastructure development not only in the town centers but as well as the hinterlands.
