that included the cleaning of streets, highways and other forms of community works. “This is the big thrust of the national government under President Duterte that is whole-heartedly supported by the Governor Nelson Dayanghirang,” said Art Benjie Bulaong, provincial administrator of Davao Oriental and the action officer of Anti-Drug Abuse Council in the province. PH, ROK TRADE MINISTERS DISCUSS WAYS TO ADVANCE TRADE AND ECONOMIC COOPERATION. Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez (R) and Republic of Korea (ROK) Minister for Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) Hyunghwan Joo (L) discussed ways to strengthen PH-ROK trade and economic cooperation in a meeting on 13 February in Makati. Sec. Lopez imparted to the ROK side DTI’s priorities as chair of the ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting, including the desire to conclude the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which will link ASEAN, an economic powerhouse with a market of 600 million people, to its six Dialogue Partners, creating a bigger market of 3.5 billion people. For its part, ROK sought help from the Philippines, as current chair of ASEAN 2017, to fast-track completion of ASEAN-ROK Free Trade Area, a strong platform to boost bilateral trade relations, by increasing frequency of holding negotiations. ROK also sought ways to facilitate bilateral investments through matchmaking events between both sides to boost investment attraction, focusing on the countries’ priority sectors. supplied photo
Sultan Kudarat police steps up intel operations vs illegal gambling GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Feb. 17 (PNA) -- Police personnel in Sultan Kudarat have stepped up their intelligence operations against alleged “big time” illegal gambling financiers and operators based in the province. Sr. Supt. Raul Supiter, Sultan Kudarat police director, said Friday they are
currently validating a list of personalities who were supposedly behind the rampant illegal gambling activities in the area. “We already identified some of the suspected gambling lords and we’re already gathering evidences against them,” he said. The police official said the anti-gambling drive will
cover “big time” financiers and operators as well as street level bettors. He specifically cited those involved in the “last two” illegal numbers game and other related activities. “Last two” is an illegal numbers game based on the last two digits of the winning number combination of the daily lotto draws
of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald dela Rosa had ordered all police units nationwide to intensify the crackdown against illegal gambling activities, with the anti-drug campaign temporarily taking the backseat.
