DAVAO CITY — Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III on Tuesday called for an immediate stop to the practice of reassigning erring policemen to Mindanao.

In a press statement, Pimentel said Mindanao is “deserving of honest and disciplined lawmen like the rest of the country.”

Two weeks earlier, Governor Mujiv Hataman of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) also called for an end to the practice, stressing the region is “not a dumping ground for erring and corrupt police officers involved in illegal drugs.”

In his midnight press conference in Malacanang on January 29-30, President Rodrigo Duterte repeatedly said he would have these police scalawags sent to the ARMM provinces of Basilan, Sulu and Lanao del Sur. “I would like to establish control sa Basilan pati sa Jolo (Sulu). Diyan sa Lanao there’s a fight going on.

In the latter part of his press conference, he repeated his need to “have a strong presence in Basilan and in Jolo.”

If they know how to scare thieves, let them be there), Duterte said, adding even those who are about to retire will be sent there and to places like Bongao (Tawi-tawi). “They will have their sightseeing days before they go,” the President said.

Mechanization to boost corn production in Dinagat town

They don’t possess adequate reading comprehension skills to do what is expected of them.

Without comprehension, reading is simply following words on the page from left to right while sounding them out. The words on the page have no meaning.

And while students read for so many different reasons, the chief goal is to derive some understanding of what the writer is trying to convey and make use of that information- whether for fact gathering, learning a new skill, or for pleasure. That is why reading comprehension skills are so important. Without it, the reader cannot gather the information and use it to

you hope that you have some money to rebook. How about in education? Is time on task applicable?

I remember one time when our school principal asked us teachers whether we arrived late in our first period class.

If late, what would be the reason? What solution should we

efficiently function and enjoy the richness of life.

Reading is a multifaceted process that develops only with thorough and enough practice.

There are certain aspects of reading, such as fluency and word recognition. These basic must be mastered but at the same time reading comprehension should be emphasized and achieved in the process.

Students can parrot words on a page all day long but if they do not have the necessary comprehension skills they will not able to make predictions about what will happen next, monitor their understanding of content, sequence or characters, clarify confusing parts of the text, or connect what they are reading

to their own experience or prior knowledge. And that is what true comprehension is all about.

This as reading comprehension embodies so much importance to the students as this may function very significantly in the achievement of different works and responsibilities. Without prior comprehension, then, one may not be able to understand and comprehend things and in general what life is all about.

As teachers, let us in one way or the other achieve better reading comprehension among our students and we will be making a big and great difference into their lives.

4P’s- A CHALLENGE AND INSPIRATION FOR FILIPINOS TO ACHIEVE GOALS

POVERTY- a very common word we heard from most Filipinos who stop dreaming for a brighter future.

In the early age of 10, most of the Filipino children stop schooling due to poverty. Some of these children found working to earn money from farm just to survive. We even cannot deny the fact that we have many street children asking for any peso from people who passed by. This problem is because of poverty.

Because their parents cannot sustain the daily needs of their children.

As their problem arises at home, ideas of letting the young members of the family begin to exist. The Government was aware about the problem and they implemented the 4P’s.

4 P ’s ( PA N TAW I D

PA M I LYA N G P I L I P I N O PROGRAM) is one of the responses of the Philippine Government to the challenge of meeting the Millennium Development Goals. This program aimed to free people from hunger and diseases and enlarges freedom. To provide assistance to the poor, to alleviate their immediate needs and to break the intergeneralizational cycle of poverty through investment in human capital such as education, health and nutrition.

The beneficiaries of the program are the Pregnant household, children 0-5 years old and children 6-14 years old.

This program is implemented in 17 region, 80 Provinces and 733 cities and municipalities in which 4P’s covered already 1 million poor households by end of 2010.

4P’s provides conditional cash grants to beneficiaries through Landbank cash card.

Beneficiaries will be receiving

6,000.00 per year or 500.00 per month per household for Health and nutrition Grant and 3,000.00 per year or 300.00 per month per child for 10 months a year, to a maximum of 3 children per household for education. A household with three qualified children receives a subsidy of 1,400.00/month during the school year or 15,000.00 annually as long as they comply with the conditional ties.

The conditionalities are the regular checkups which include the weight monitoring, the management of childhood diseases for sick children and deworming them twice a year in school and maintain a class attendance rate of at least 85% per month.

This conditionlities never burden the members of 4P’s, yet, challenge each one of them to be active and more responsive citizen of our nation.

DISTRICT is very thankful being one of the Districts wherein Parents and children of 26 schools are receiving benefits from this program. This encourage the pupils of 26 schools of Cabanglasan District to be more interested in going to school, active in school activities and even letting them continue aiming to be well educated person.

It challenge and inspire them to reach their goals in life.

Now, we can see few children in streets asking for help. Ad through this program, we believe that soon, no more children in streets asking for centavos.

We salute the Philippine Government for implementing 4P’s to challenge and inspire the Filipinos, especially the children who were said to be the HOPE OF THE NATION to continue their journey in life…

Primacy of the Peace Process Drieza Liningding, SecretaryGeneral of the Bangsamoro National Movement for Peace and Development and chair of the Moro Consensus Group, told MindaNews that while they acknowledge the “threat and danger posed by these so-called terrorist groups whom in the past were tainted as colluding with some government agents,” they would like to appeal to the government to “respect the primacy of the peace process.”

Liningding said that if the government is serious in neutralizing these groups, “they should seek the help of major Moro fronts,” referring to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) with whom government has signed peace agreements, “in combating terrorism and expand the mandate of peace mechanisms like the Ad Hoc Joint Action Group (AHJAG) which is mandated to interdict criminals in communities dominated by the MILF.”

He noted that military operations against the Abu Sayyaf are near the camps of the MNLF while operations against the Maute Group are near MILF camps.

He said there have been success stories “where the MILF drove out these rogue groups (and) in the case of MNLF, at one time Misuari group engaged the Abu Sayyaf in a firefight and were also instrumental in freeing some of the Abu Sayyaf ’s kidnap victims.”

“The more the Government is unilaterally doing this, the more we suspect that these operations are just an excuse to further militarize the Bangsamoro areas,” adding , they “wish that a parallel all out peace by

The bombers, allegedly affiliated with the Maute Group, were later arrested.

Duterte said violent extremism “would be the more dangerous thing for us. And I have ordered a full-press military operation kasi uulit iyan, uulit iyan (they will do it again, they will do it again). And if they are desperate enough they would resume bombing,” Duterte said.

“Embargo the place, you contain them in that area alone, Lanao. Sana huwag nang lumabas sa ibang lugar.

UPLACFA is the first corn seed producer in the region.

Aside from the farm tractor, the association also received a mini corn mill.

Corn is one of the leading staple foods in the island along with rice and root crops.

I considered myself lucky being given the chance to read the book “Unleash Your Highest Potential”

by Vic and Avelynn Garcia which presented remarkable topics. One that struck me was about the law of Atrophy. Encarta Dictionaries defines the medical term Atrophy as wasting away, the shrinking in size of some part or organ of the body usually caused by injury, disease or lack of use; weakening or lessening of some ability. In plain terms, the law of Atrophy suggests that what you don’t use, you lose!

Undeniably, the law of atrophy is true in life. If a person considers himself inferior than others and limits the things that he does will forever be inferior.

As a mentor, I should not content myself with the notion of retiring as Teacher-1. On my second year of teaching, I have let opportunities passed me by because I did not have that desire to improve and

enhance myself because I am content of receiving my salary and being teacher -1.

At that time, I was apprehensive of accepting bigger responsibilities thinking that I can’t do it. However, this book opened my mind about the potentials that I possessed. I am now eager to accept responsibilities that can be a venue to unleash my expertise.

No one is born stupid and dull. We are born with lots of potentials; ready to be discovered and be honed.

In our workplace, we need to use and share our Godgiven talents and abilities.

If you dream of becoming a great person, then use your ability and competence to achieve what you dream of becoming. If we won’t make use of this dexterity in us, we’ll eventually lose them. As the law of atrophy means that what you don’t use, you lose!

God has bestowed a marvellous gift- your brain!

Use it! Don’t let it go into atrophy!
