CANTILAN, Surigao del Sur—Braving the torrential rains, some 5,000 people mostly mining workers, lumads and students on Thursday staged a marchrally at the town center to protest the suspension
of permits to three mining companies in the two neighboring towns here. The protesters were emotional with calls against the move of Environment Secretary Gina Lopez suspending the Mineral Production Sharing Agreement of Marcventures Mining and Development Corp
(CMDC), CTP Construction and Mining Corp. and Carrascal Nickel Corporation. The protesters march around the town center carrying placards and streamers loudly chanting slogans in Surigaonon vernacular : “Padajon (continue)!” A large streamers that covered

SURIGAO City––Even as the city is still trying to recover from the effects of the 6.7-magnitude quake last February 10, motorcycle-riding hit men struck again on Thursday. On Thursday evening, three people died and another one was wounded in two shooting incidents perpetrated by assailants riding in tandem.
The first incident occurred at 6:50 p.m. along P. Reyes corner Narcisco Streets and claimed the life of Jemar Fortuna Alabat, 20, crane operator and a resident of Barangay Taft. The victim succumbed to two gunshot wounds, in his neck and lower right cheek. Police investigation said the victim was with his father, Gerniel Escubedo Alabat, 39 at the roadside when two

1.8-M students to take career assessment exam
About 1.8 million Grade 9 students from public and private schools nationwide will take the National Career Assessment Examination (NCAE) on March 1 and 2. The Department of Education (DepEd), through the Bureau of Educational Assessment (BEA), will lead the administration of the annual NCAE, with help from personnel of schools divisions nationwide.
