LTFRB: Taxi flagdown rate set at P40 nationwide By Aerol B. Pateña of PNA
THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has set the taxi flagdown rate for the first 500 meters at P40 nationwide, except the Cordillera
Administrative Region (CAR). The fare will take effect today (February 13). The provisional authorized flagdown fare for taxi services in the Cordillera region has been set at P35 for the first 400 meters.
There will be no increase in rates for the succeeding meters or for waiting time. The transport group, Philippine National Taxi Operators Association (PNTOA), has earlier filed a petition to increase the
flagdown rate for taxis to PHP40 from P30 following the series of oil price hikes. Meanwhile, the LTFRB has also announced that the jeepney fare is at P8, up P1 from the previous rate of P7 in the National Capital
Region (NCR), Central Luzon and the Calabarzon region. A rate of P6.40 will be charged to students, senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs). There will be no increase for the succeeding kilometers.

SENDING erring cops to Mindanao is an ‘insult’ to the region and its people, a Catholic bishop said. Bishop Jose Cabantan of Malaybalay said Mindanao should be turned into dumping place where rogue policemen are reassigned for atonement. “We are insulted if we deserve the unruly service of these people,” Cabantan told Manila archdiocese-run Radio Veritas on Friday. President Rodrigo Duterte earlier said erring policemen would be sent to Basilan believed to be a stronghold of the bandit group Abu Sayyaf and other extremist groups or they should quit. Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa made a similar statement in a bid to clean their ranks following several complaints of police abuses. The bishop said See BISHOP, page 11
Police says no ‘hit list’ for drug personalities, lawyers in Surigao By Roel Catoto of MindaNews
SURIGAO City--Authorities here have denied accusations of having a “hit list” containing the names of drug personalities, includ-
ing protectors and lawyers representing drug-related cases. S r. S u p t . A n t h o ny Maghari told reporters Thursday afternoon that there is no such list even as lawyers here condemned the
attacks on their colleagues by gunmen. The Surigao del Norte chapter of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and supporters went to the streets Thursday holding placards that said “Stop
killing lawyers.” Maghari said these are mere speculations that PNP members are behind the killing of retired Regional Trial Court Judge Victor A. Canoy and the slay attempt on Surigao City Prosecutor
Manuel N. Tesiorna. Insp. Joel Cabanes, former intelligence officer of the city police office, told reporters that he has no knowledge of the alleged hit list. “If there’s a hit list, the
PNP provincial director will know it. We don’t have it,” he stressed. Cabanes has made dozens of arrests of those alleged to be involved in the illegal drug trade in the See lawyers, page 11
