For the second time in four years, Ozamiz City Schools Division won the overall championship in the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) under the auspices of the Department of Education regional office 10.

“This time we won the title alone since in 2013 we shared the honor with Camiguin,” division journalism coordinator Federico B. Araniego Jr. said yesterday upon receipt of official RSPC results.

Children nowadays spent most of their time on televisions, cellphones, tablets and other high tech gadgets. From those things they experience colorful moving pictures, exciting games, and social interactions and keep up with latest trends. Having been through such amusements one could not blame the children for finding school quite boring. Spending eight hours with black and white textbooks, dusty chalks and blackboards, mere paper cut outs and boring teachers may appear to the young ones as punishment rather than learning.

Given the standards of today’s children and

school with its traditional way of teaching, then yes, school is definitely boring!

Desperate times call for desperate measures could also mean that different times call for different measures.

The children of today are different from the children of yesteryear’s then and as teachers it is our responsibility to educate them through the best means, and if that calls for changing our ways then why not? New materials at affordable prices are out in the market today, so why not take this chance and make use of the 21st century learners’ interest?

A simple projector and an interesting PowerPoint presentation are more engaging for the learners than

a chalk and a blackboard routine. Now, imagine what a sound system, a television, a computer, an internet connection and a big screen can do to your lessons. You can turn your classroom into a time machine wherein you can warp your pupils into the past, present and even into the future through the use of audio-video presentation; on a click of a button you can instantly show your pupils: what a polar bear looks like, what is the sound of a humming bird, how did the rover curiosity landed on mars, why is the sun so hot and etc. it is very easy to do if you have internet connection; easy and way more productive than memorizing textbooks and stating facts.

Not to mention the time you can save from writing

on a long manila paper and preparing instructional materials like drawings of cartoon characters which requires enormous amount of time to prepare. It only takes a minute or two to download a short video presentation from the net, and a second or two to download a PowerPoint presentation. See how much time you can save?

Teachers nowadays are not anymore the main source of information.

TEACHERS use a wide variety of tools to foster learning but what exactly should be used? Every teacher needs supplies and resources in order to have a successful classroom. Writing utensils paper and inspirational wall signs are all useful objects in a classroom but they are not instructional materials. Instructional materials are the tools used in educational lessons which includes active learning and assessment. Basically, any resource a teacher uses to help him teach his students is an instructional material. There are many types of instructional materials.

Traditional resources include any textbooks and workbooks used in the classroom. For example, language arts classrooms almost always have lit-

erature textbooks, writing textbooks and even vocabulary and spelling workbooks. In addition to these, traditional resources also include any supplemental reading material like novels or poems outside of the textbook.

These materials can really help to introduce new concepts to your students.

For example, when learning the concept of theme, a literature textbook can provide numerous reading materials all displaying theme in different types of literature. In the same way, workbooks can give some useful basic practice activities for new vocabulary words or even writing activities that might be difficult for students. When mastery is shown on a basic level, a teacher can introduce more challenging material related to that concept.

Piñol as he committed himself as the sales head for organic and naturally grown products, before more than a thousand delegates during the recent conduct of the 13th National Organic Agriculture (OA) Congress, held in the city.

Bearing the theme: “Organiko a wagas: tatao ken aglawlaw nadur-as (Organic way: for people, environmental sustainability and progress), the confab focused on putting premium the marching order of the Duterte administration of providing available and accessible food with emphasis on sustainability, robustness, resiliency and food safety for everyone.

Accordingly, a series of activities was staged, including the conduct

of consultations, awarding ceremony for the OA achievers, cooking contest, plenary and breakout sessions for the research, marketing and starter groups, and the conduct of an organic trade exhibit.

In particular, the DA chief noted his appreciation for the various organic and naturally grown products displayed at the trade fair, but challenged the exhibitors and the organic advocates in attendance to go an extra mile.

“You are doing great but make sure that you are able to supply the needs of the market the moment your product captures the imagination of the buyers,” Sec. Piñol said.

Packaging, he added, can play a vital role in the success or failure of the sales of a product.

“If you have a good product, package it very well,” he added.

Likewise, he relayed

that one of the DA regional field offices has already apportioned Php25 million for organic rice production, signifying that the department will not waver on banking initiatives that would help organic farmer-producers, processors and other relevant stakeholders of the industry to link them to bigger market opportunities.

10th China-ASEAN Rally Commences in Nanning The China-ASEAN International Touring Assembly (CAITA) and China-ASEAN Journalists Rally held this year’s ceremonial flag-off in Nanning, Guangxi, China, last November 23, 2016. Also known as the China-ASEAN Rally, this international motorsports event is jointly organized by the General Administration of Sport of China, the People’s Government of Guangxi and the ASEAN Secretariat, undertaken

by Guangxi Sports Administration and the Federation of Automobile and Motorcycle Sports of People’s Republic of China.

Now on its 10th year, the 2016 China-ASEAN Rally (CAR) marks several milestones in China-ASEAN relations. “This year is very significant for it is the third year of the “Diamond Decade” of the strategic partnership between China and ASEAN and the

third year to promote the “One Belt and One Road” project. Meanwhile, 2016 CAR is listed as one of the commemorations to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of ChinaASEAN dialogue relations

by Chinese Foreign Ministry in 2016, marking a new historical starting point. As a far-reaching international friendship exchanging event, 2016 CAR, designed to travel to some of the most important Maritime Silk Road ports in China and ASEAN countries, connects to the past and opens up the future” said Thomas Ma, Executive Director, CAITA Organizing Committee Office and Deputy Commander of the rally. “I sincerely hope this event would enhance good-neighborly friendship, mutually beneficial cooperation and fruitful exchanges between China and ASEAN countries” he added.

from China and ten ASEAN member states will pass through China-VietnamLaos-Myanmar-ThailandCambodia-MalaysiaSingapore-Indonesia, with a ceremonial flag-down to be held in Jakarta.

From Nanning, China, the convoy’s first stop was Hanoi, where a ceremonial send-off was held, followed by a tour in the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex.

A quick visit to Ho Chi Minh Memorial Hall in Vinh City then the group crossed to Laos with a night stop at Vientiane. A ceremonial flag-off was held at the Patuxai Park to commemorate the 55th year of China-Laos relations. From Laos, the convoy passed through Phitsanulok, Thailand on the way to Hpa An, Myanmar for a tour at the Kyauk Kalat Pagoda and Kawgun Cave. After which, they traveled back to Thailand for a visit at the Sukhothai Historical

Park, followed by a tour in Ayutthaya Historical Park in Pattaya. The convoy then crossed to Cambodia for a tour in the famous Angkor Wat in Siem Reap.

From there, the group crossed back to Thailand,

stopping in Bangkok for the promotion of the Sa Kaeo Special Economic Zone before making a night stop in Hat Yai. As of today, the convoy is en route to Ipoh where they will attend the

inauguration of Victoria Bridge. The 10th ChinaASEAN Rally is scheduled to pass through Singapore before having a ceremonial flag-down in Jakarta, Indonesia on the 11th of December.
