ASEAN member countries: integrity and humanity THE Association of South East Nation (ASEAN) has member countries that are in diversity. Each member country has its own typical characteristics not only politically but also in other aspects. Problems can come up when all member countries are not scrutinizing both their strengths and weaknesses. Humanity and integrity should be enhanced so that the ASEAN potentiality can be highlighted.

The development of the population is now becoming more and more obvious.

The number of the people increases the number of job seekers. This is a social problem that may come again and again. The job vacancy and the number of the people may not be matched. It is strikingly odd when among the member countries are not aware of this evidence. Sending the low quality human resources to foreign countries tends to be much risky. This is risky especially when sending the workers to the countries which are not the ASEAN member countries.

Socially, the problem of manpower can be due to the gap between the number of job seekers and the vacancy.

This problem can never be overcome yet the number of jobless results in different impacts. It can create traf-

ficking. It can induce the higher number of criminalities. It can also lead to the lower standard of living in a member country which has more and more number of the population, the densely-populated member countries.

In terms of regional zone, conflicts because of territorial basis can be more potential. In the archipelagic countries, ASEAN tends to have a potential conflict.

The border of the sea and the claim of ownership can also lead to borderline conflicts. Politically, the ASEAN member countries are clearly noticed. The political differences and the way of overcoming the conflicts may cause the problem never be better solved. This can be clearly predicted.

Only the leaders of these member countries can drag the focus on having the same vision and mission of ASEAN integrity. The solidity of the member countries to have the same vision of ASEAN future is the key success for making ASEAN great. Only the leader of each country can make the ASEAN become more solid.

When the member countries are in a good relationship, the integrity and solidity can be achieved.

Job seekers and the political will among the

member countries requires more close discussion. The number of population and unemployment should be tackled using some strategies. Education and collaboration should be enhanced so that the quality of the manpower can be balanced among the member countries.

Another strategy can be undertaken through mutual-benefit cooperation.

Exchange programs among the students in colleges can be done. Polytechnic institutions with the level of colleges can be enhanced.

Competition is good but being more and more competitive without balancing the quality of manpower among the member countries lead to potential conflicts. This is a social problem.

Humanity is another issue. When it is politically different the way of seeking the strategy can be different. Yet, seeking the humanity interest and its existence can be the best way to balance any conflict that may come up among the ASEAN member countries. The ASEAN vision and mission should focus on integrity and highlight the humanity. These two terms are good for more discussion and attention.

political issues, the ASEAN leaders can look at a glance at the issue of integrity and humanity. These two entities can lead to the solidity not only in each member country but also the whole member countries in ASEAN. An intensive forum for the discussion and policy making towards these two entities needs more and more attention. We believe that by enhancing on integrity and humanity, the ASEAN member countries can be a great regional association among other great regional associations throughout the globe.

ances or, as some had put it, “profit participation” which they appear to have been enjoying for quite some time now. I have written about this “profit participation” scam in previous years in the hope of stopping it, but nobody wanted to pay any attention.

Now, with the free tuition system designed by the Duterte government for state colleges and universities, I am sure it is going to be problematic and highly scandalous for anyone to insist that this “profit participation” scheme among top ranking CHED officials and officials of state colleges and universities should still continue.

-ooo“PROFIT PARTICIPATION” AMONG SUCs SUCKS: What is this “profit participation” scheme? It is a system, I am told, where

some CHED and SUC officials are given portions of the tuition fees paid by students who, because of lack of financial capabilities, could not study at better private educational institutions and had to content themselves being enrolled in SUCs. I wrote the CHED and the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to investigate this matter several years ago, but I never received even the courtesy of a denial, both of this request and of the existence of the scheme. I was totally stonewalled by CHED and CSC officials, but, my informants told me the system of “profit participation” continued unabated.

I said then, and I am going to say it again: taking portions of tuition fees paid by poor students to SUCs is criminal and constituted graft and corruption. It is also stealing from poor families, whose only way out of poverty and misery is securing college education for their children. Maybe the Duterte government can do its own investigation of this matter now and prosecute all those who may have participated in this scam.

Yet, God’s answer showed that He was willing to come down and save His people Himself ! This was His proof of His love, and of His incarnation as Jesus!

Big incidents around “IF I have my way, I will execute from 5 to 6 drug suspects everyday,” President Duterte was quoted as saying. This has reference to the restoration of the death penalty. To me what is important is due process of law. Let the supreme court orders the execution and not just anybody. Let the accused enjoy their constitutional rights to be assisted by lawyers rather than get shot dead even while sleeping in their homes.

President Digong Duterte should throw into the waste box his dictatorial attitude.

People are afraid while the country is embarrassed in the international community. We treat dogs much better than people.

Another “no work no pay” holiday should be incorporated into our calendar. It is the Duterte’s Innocents Day to honor the innocent people who were shot dead in the name of drug war. Of course, this is only to imitate the biblical “Los Inocentes” celebrated every December 28 to honor

the infants killed supposedly to include our Lord Jesus Christ.

According to latest survey 8 to 10 Filipinos expressed fears they will be caught in the crossfire in the battle against drugs and killed. The same survey also showed that criminality in the county has been reduced by 33 percent. This is both good and bad news but in journalism, bad news is good news.

I am hoping President Digong Duterte stops the daily murders of innocent people in the countr y.

Instead, he concentrates against the rebels in Jolo and other places in Mindanao.

Mindanaoans are hungry of peace. PNP chief Bato was quoted to have said “I am sorry about the killings but the war on drugs will continue”. Under the same logic, killings will go on.

I am glad China, which seized unlawfully America’s unmanned and unarmed underwater drone near Subic Bay, has returned it.

Sen. Leila De Lima has some good points when she said “war on drugs targets the poor only”. I think she is right since I have yet to hear rich or scions of influential and wealthy families killed in the war. Is this the case of double standard way of governance or just discrimination in action.

Consider this: What political or practical gain would President Duterte get in calling the US President the son of a whore? He was wrong if he thought he earned some pogi points from the Moros in the south for the puerile act of apparently avenging for them on the infamous Bud Dajo

massacre, a historic issue he was reviving to counter US and western criticisms on the wanton extra judicial killing in the country under his watch. Duterte is clueless: despite everything, the Moros adored and respected the Americans and remain so to this day in the same breath as their distrust in and hatred to the Filipinos, the Christianized natives.

NAAWAN, Misamis Oriental--Rodrigo Roa Duterte was catapulted to political stardom by doing or saying the unthinkable. For instance, at the stretch of the campaign period in 2015, he cursed the Pope for causing a traffic jam at EDSA; admitted he personally killed at least three suspects in a kidnapping and rape case in Davao City; and lamented missing the opportunity to rape ahead of the rioting inmates a beautiful Australian missionary during a hostage-taking incident inside a jailhouse. Instead of losing votes, the maverick Digong collected more than what he needed to claim the May 2016 presidential election.

With his unorthodox bull-headed behavior of not minding the possible consequences of his action, Duterte successfully projected himself as a no nonsense strongman capable of holding right at the horn the wicked monster of corruption, criminality and the illegal drug menace that hounded the country for long. Forget about his morality or its absence, the voters of the only Christian country in the Far East did not bother and care at all, and considered him the long awaited messiah to deliver the land from evil.

SPH goes full throttle at the AFF Suzuki Cup 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup 2016 title sponsor Suzuki Philippines (SPH) recently got avid football fans into the groove with fun games and activities to mark the ASEAN region’s most prestigious football competition.

To kick off the tournament, over 1,000 motorcycle club members and 500 Suzuki car club enthusiasts joined the parade to the Philippine Stadium in Bocaue, Bulacan, on the AFF Suzuki Cup’s first day.

They were joined by friends and families who were equally thrilled to witness the matches and participate in the Cup’s activities.

Braving the traffic to greet the Philippine Azkalsand cheer them on at the group stage games were 1,300 students, mostly hailing from the country’s top universities - Ateneo De Manila University, De La Salle University, University of Sto. Tomas, University of the Philippines, University of the East, and Far Eastern University.

On the last day of the group stage games (November 25) 40 children from the JCI Manila – GK Smokey Mountain Football Club had the privilege of sitting on the best seats as they witnessed the

Philippine Azkals battle for national glory for the very first time. Through this experience, SPH hopes to inspire them to likewise find their passion and eventually the courage to pursue it.

Aside from the competition, there were activities and games in store for tournament attendees, too.

Welcoming the spectators and guests at the Suzuki Village located just within the stadium’s premises were a huge arc balloon and a life-size soccer ball.

The soccer ball allowed tournament-goers to leave their messages at the Philippines’ first-ever co-hosted AFF Suzuki Cup. Displayedat the Suzuki Village as well were SPH’s exciting lineup of automobiles and motorcycles. On display

were the AFF-speciallydressed Suzuki Swift 1.2, the all-time favorite Suzuki Jimny, the multiawarded Suzuki Ciaz, the well-loved Suzuki Ertiga, and the everstylish Suzuki Celerio.

Smash 115 Fashion Colors, Address 115 Fi, and the Underbone King - Raider R150 were also among the motorcycles that have each captured tournament goers’ attention.

While those on display provided attendees the perfect venue for taking photos, SPH prepared a number of games and activities – from the prize wheel down to the mini football games – to keep Filipino football fans’ energy levels up beyond the actual competition.

DTI calls on public to utilize ‘e-Presyo’ application BUTUAN City––The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Caraga called on the consum-

ing public to utilize and access their “e-Presyo” application, wherein consumers, retailers,

distributors, and manufacturers can check for the Suggested Retail Price (SRP) and prevail-

ing prices of all basic and prime goods being monitored by the DTI including those stores selling at the lowest prices.

“The e-Presyo app can be accessed through the DTI website at www. dti.gov.ph or can be downloaded from Play Store using any Andriod device,” disclosed DTI regional director Brielgo Pagaran during the last media briefing with the civil society organizations (CSOs) recently conducted at the DTI regional office here.

Davao Light reconnects Samal submarine cable Monday

NINE months after being isolated or 2 days before Christmas eve, the Samal submarine cable is reconnected to one of Davao Light and Power Co.’s substation.

This is upon the request of Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) Mayor Al David Uy to provide stable electricity to the Island City. The gensets currently supplying electricity is not sufficient to energize the entire Samal island, according to the Mayor.

Davao Light agreed to recon-

nect the submarine cable as there now exists an unused capacity in its Pampanga substation. Also in the spirit of Christmas, people of Samal could enjoy the holidays with uninterrupted power.

The Davao del Norte Electric Cooperative (DANECO) submarine cable connects to the

National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) transmission system passing through Davao Light’s Pampanga substation.

Months earlier DANECO made the same request to Davao Light.

However, at that time it could not be accommodated as the latter utility’s Pampanga substation

Durian council needs new facility worth P350m DAVAO City––The Davao Durian Council Inc. has urged the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to construct a processing center worth P350 million to back the growing demand for durian in the global market.

and export markets.

Once constructed, he said that it will benefit the city generate 1,000 jobs.

Citing the Chinese market, Miculob said that the demand for next year is 100 40-footer container vans.
