Hiring in PHL faces sharp drop in October

ONLINE hiring activity across the Philippines has taken a turn for the worst, with a -30% decline recorded between October 2014 and October 2015. This is according to the latest Monster Employment Index (MEI) Philippines, which has reported this fall in e-recruitment activity. This is a sharp drop from the -16% year-on-year decline reported in September 2015. The MEI is a gauge of online job posting activity, which records the industries and occupations that show the highest and lowest growth in recruitment activity locally. In October the BFSI sector – one of only two sectors registering positive growth – saw the steepest year-over-year growth at 25%, up from the 10% yearover-year growth registered in September. The Production/ Manufacturing, Automotive and Ancillary sector is once again the worst performing industry for online hiring, See hiring, page A11

DAVAO City--An official from the Department of Budget and Management agreed that island nations like the Philippines should be headed for a form of government like federalism but that the next administration should put in place clear mechanisms to run such a government. The comment was made after Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte last week formalized his candidacy as substitute candidate for PDP-Laban after repeated denials he was interested in the position.

Duterte has gone around the country ostensibly pushing for a federal form of government. In an interview during Saturday’s Kusog Mindanao conference at the Waterfront Insular Hotel, DBM Assistant Secretary Maxine Tanya Hamada said See good, page A11

Ma. Eloisa Pabillore, of the DTI in Northern Mindanao, said that the department is especially monitoring prices of “Noche Buena” products, which started to proliferate in the local market.

Pabillore identified some of these “Noche Buena” products as ham, fruit cocktail, cheese, sandwich spread, mayonnaise, keso de bola, pasta, spaghetti, elbow and salad macaroni, spaghetti sauce, tomato

sauce, and cream. She said that the DTI has set a “Suggested Retail Price” (SRP) of these products and warned that violators would be dealt with accordingly. An administrative fine See products, page A11

FOR the first time ever in the history of the country, its Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical communities have come together to muster a Christian bloc vote which would elect God-fearing and Godcentered public servants for the 2016 Elections. And what better occasion to launch the initiative dubbed Gabay-Kristo in Northern Mindanao than the centenary of the birth of Misamis Oriental’s most illustrious states-

man, the late Vice President Emmanuel N. Pelaez? Known as the “Mr. Right” of Philippine politics in his heyday, Maning as he was fondly called by friends and admirers was renowned for his brand of Christ-centered governance, integrity and honesty. Born November 30, 2015, he served multiple terms as congressman and senator, reaching his pinnacle as Vice President in 1961-1965, when the Philippines became one of the most respected and economically vigorous countries in Asia. He also served later as Philippine See pelaez, page A11
