Penalty eyed v unscheduled downtimes of power plants By CRIS DIAZ Executive Editor
CAGAYAN de Oro City-Lawmakers urged the Department of Energy (DOE) to penalize those liable for unscheduled “downtimes” of power plants in the country. “The unscheduled downtimes has a very harmful effect on the economy of our country,” Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, of Cagayan De Oro City, said a House Resolution (HR) passed in the Lower House would check the sources of “downtimes” of power plants. Rodriguez, and Party List Rep. Maximo Rodriguez, of Abante Mindanao (Abamin) passed the resolution during the second regular session of the 16th Congress.
The resolution described those responsible for the unscheduled downtimes to have no regard for the harm “they put on our economy and on the businesses.” The resolution urged the DOE to impose fines and penalties for those accountable for the downtimes of power supplies, especially during critical months when the supply is low and the demand is high. Imposing fines and penalties would ensure that power plants and generating companies would strictly follow their specific commitments in commissioning the power plants and its schedules, the resolution said.
