Cayetano has officially assumed––in a traditional military honors––as the new commander of the 401st Infantry Brigade (401st IB) at the headquarters of the 4th Infantry Division (4ID), Camp Evangelista, Patag, Cagayan de Oro City on January 10, 2015. Cayetano was accorded with full military honors by the diamond troopers in front of the 4th ID admin building in recognition to his promotion to the rank of brigadier general. CAGAYAN de Oro City-A total of 490 families from Natumolan, Tagoloan town who were victims of tropical storm Seniang in December 2014 benefited from food packs distributed by Misamis Oriental 2nd district Rep. Juliette T. Uy.

During the food pack distribution held last January 9 in Barangay Natumolan, Uy herself led the distribution of the food packs which consisted of six kilograms of rice, assorted canned goods and coffee. Uy acknowledged the D ep ar t ment of S o ci a l Welfare and Development

CAGAYAN de Oro City––All the 26 crew of a cargo vessel loaded with limestone that capsized in the vicinity of Camiguin Island Friday morning have been rescued, the Philippine Coastguard here said Friday evening. ‘Rufus’ pushes bill to upgrade forestry law By CRIS DIAZ Executive Editor

CAGAYAN de Oro City––A lawmaker is urging Congress to amend the Forestry Profession Law in order that the profession of forestry could be designed according to changes of times. Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, of Cagayan De Oro City, said that he and Party List Rep. Maximo Rodgriguez had filed House Bill No. 5256 to align the forestry policies of the government’s development program. RODRIGUEZ

He said that they filed the bill because forestry is a dynamic profession that should depict the changes in the physical environment and conditions of the natural resources concerning national and global laws and policies. Rodriguez said that there are also ethical issues that should be addressed in the practice of the forestry profession. He said that the proposed bill would outline a new competence standards developed for the foresters to

show the specific knowledge and skills of the modern day forester. The Forestry Profession Law became a law under Republic Act 6239 on June 19, 1971 or some 37 years ago where some of its provisions have outgrown its relevance to the forest policies of the Philippines, Rodriguez said. AVAO CITY – Davao Light and Power Company has officially posted on its website the winning short video promoting sustainable use of electricity that were produced by communication students from different schools for the power firm’s campaign.

The campaign promoting awareness on the sustainable use of electricity was launched last year through a video-making contest which was opened to the students studying in the colleges and universities within Davao Light's franchise. The program was also intended to hone the skills of the future film-makers. Within a one-month period, the contest garnered a

The rest of the participants did not go home empty handed as they also received P1,500 per entry. “Though a newbie to this field, we are very grateful of the overwhelming response that we received in our contest. We only asked for 20 but we received 41 well-thoughtout and executed videos. We hope to see more from these students on our next videomaking contest,” said Rossano Luga, AVP for Reputation Enhancement Department. The contest was also participated in by the Davao del Norte State College, Holy Child College of Davao, Philippine Women's College, San Pedro College, University of Mindanao, University of the Philippines Mindanao and North Davao Colleges in Panabo. Open High School Program as the factor in addressing drop-out problem in Tangub City National High School By Judy Marie F. Cabrera Teacher III Tangub City National High School

The education department is solid to its effort in addressing and meeting the educational needs of Filipino students. This is the main reason in creating numerous programs; to mend problems that hinder Filipino kids in enjoying the privilege of being educated. The approval of Open High School Program (OHSP) is one of the solution in bridging the needs. It is an alternative mode of formal secondary education program run by the Bureau of Secondary Education (BSE) of the Department of Education (DepEd) of the Republic of the Philippines. The program provides opportunity for elementary school graduates, high school drop-outs and successful examinees of the Philippine Education Placement Test (PEPT) to complete secondary education in a ‘different learning mode’ compare to the regular one. Tangub City National High School is one of the schools that see benefits in running OHSP. The program has helped

them a lot in addressing dropout problems in their school. The implementation of this program is through providing printed self-learning modules for students to use for their lessons and activities. In order for one to avail this program, he must be a Filipino citizen, independent learner and have completed the pre-requisite grade or year level. In addition, he must pass the Independence Learning Readiness Test (ILRT) and the Informal Reading Inventory (IRI) that shall be provided. OHSP is more than just an educational program. OHSP is one strategic measure implemented to train students to be disciplined and competitive, even in the global arena in the future. The student under this could be able to learn in independent and time-managed manner, encouraging effective learning in substance and in form. Education is important to man. It is one’s right. There are educational programs that perhaps do not line on the manner that some people could attend to, reason alternative programs such as OHSP are implemented.

Girl Scouts nat’l encampment to feature adventure events DAVAO DEL NORTE - Participants to the 38th National Encampment of the Girl Scouts of the Philippine (GSP) will experience outdoor challenges which used be enjoyed only by boys, said Dr. Cristina Lim-Yuson, 1st national vice president and National Program Committee chairperson. In an interview with the media, Yuson revealed enhancements of handling national encampment for girls whom GSP would like to hone capacities at par with the boys. “They will experience climbing, rapelling, swimming. The girls can!,” she said in emphasizing that Girl Scouts members need not shift to the counterpart organization for boys to do what the boys are enjoying. She explained that such experience forms part of realizing this year’s encampment theme, “ I Imagine; I Achieve; I Serve” intended to further hone the leadership skills of the girls. 50 more suspects indicted for Ampatuan massacre Fifty individuals have been included as suspects in the 2009 Ampatuan massacre for their alleged participation in the planning and execution of what is considered the bloodiest political violence in recent history. Forty-three complainants along with witnesses said the suspects were involved either in the planning, execution, or covering up of the bloodbath. P16.7 million earmarked to aid natl govt agencies in C. de Oro

THE AMOUNT of P16.7 million has been earmarked as Cagayan de Oro City’s aid to different government entities this year. This is provided for in Ordinance No. 12903-2014, which was approved by the City Council headed by Vice Mayor Caesar Ian E. Acenas on December 15, 2014. Out of the amount P9.5 million will be spent for the city’s subsidy to national government agencies (NGAs) in the form of honoraria/allowances for their services. This year, the city budgeted P1.6 million as allowance to Court of Appeals Justice at P15,000 per month. Meanwhile, the city is allocating P144,000 for the honoraria of Asst Exec Clerk of Court, P360,000 for the Clerk of Court, P1.6 million to Regional Trial Court judges, P96,000 to Exec Clerk of Court and P1.2 million to Clerk of Courts. Meanwhile, the city’s subsidy for allowance of the Regional State Prosecutor is P120,000, Deputy Prosecutor, P168,000, Asst. Regional Prosecutors, P252,000; Municipal Judge, P600,000; Clerk of Court, P96,000 while the five branches of the Clerk of Court will receive P420,000 from the city this year. E smael Mangud ad atu, whose wife and other family members died in the massacre, expressed concern about the security of the remaining witnesses, noting that many witnesses have been killed or threatened. He cited the case of former Datu Salibo town mayor Akmad Ampatuan who survived an ambush a few weeks ago. Armed men also reportedly went

to his house and that of his son in Shariff Aguak town to harass them. Akmad Ampatuan, along with two companions who are also witnesses, was also ambushed last Nov. 18. Denix Sakal, said to be a close aide of detained Andal “Unsay” Ampatuan Jr. was killed in the attack. Sukarno “Butch” Saudagal was wounded. “Akmad’s statement is the complete picture of all the previous statement of witnesses. There are new revelations that told the untold versions during the carnage and the background of accused Ampatuans,” Mangudadatu said. Akmad, a close relative and trusted man of Andal Ampatuan Sr., turned his back against his former boss after he decided to become a prosecution witness. Mangudadatu is also concerned that some of the private armed groups,

which harassed massacre witnesses such as Akmad Ampatuan, have allied with the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF). But the BIFF denied the allegation saying they could not accept as members men like those involved in the massacre, unless they fully submit to or practice Islam in good faith. Meanwhile, Cotabato City Administrator Atty. Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi, one of the 50 new suspects, said the case against her is “politically motivated” because of her plan to run for Congress in 2016. Sayadi, former ARMM solicitor general, denied in a press briefing on Friday that she had a hand in the massacre. Rotten and spoiled government agencies Despite the reduction of the cost of fuel for the past months – another rollback is expected this week – the prices of prime commodities continue to rise. Take a look at the prices of rice, fish, and other domestic products in the local market, especially milk and, one will notice that the prices of these commodities continue to rise. This, aside from noticing some unscrupulous traders who sell expired products. I know of a big grocery store in the city where some of its expired products have been “doctored” after it had expired. Buyers beware! I have been writing about these issues without calling the attention of concerned agencies to act on these plaints. I thought the concerned government agencies are monitoring the issues raised by the media. Thus, the government agencies would exercise initiatives to look into the problems. Indeed, it gives us an impression of the callousness of concerned government agencies to simply turn a deaf ear on complaints of

public concern. Sometimes, we thought about why these government agencies have to exist. Perhaps, it would be better for these agencies to be abolished.The existence of these government agencies is a waste of taxpayers’ money and drain on the government’s coffers. It is time for ordinary citizens to know what are these government agencies. It is time to know how these government agencies have become a burden to the Filipinos. Actually, these government agencies were created to supposedly ease the sufferings of the poor.

But, they have not! For instance, what has the Department of Agriculture (DA) been doing to check on the prices of vegetable and farm products where prices are dictated by the middlemen and traders? We always wonder why the local market is selling rejected products at an exorbitant price. For example, the local market sells tomatoes at an exorbitant price. We know that the tomatoes in the local market were already considered reject by traders who shipped the better ones to other parts in the country. This is unfair to the local consumers. Another thing, the prices of fish in the local market is also spiraling. The fish traders argue that the low pressure area (LPA) is the reason for the upsurge of prices of fish. This argument is ridiculous. What kind of a fisherman would venture into a stormy sea? In other words, these market vendors are selling fish that has been in the ice storage. The fish is not fresh! Actually, the fish

is bought at a low price and sells it at a higher price in order to make a killing out of the helpless consumer. The excuse is bad weather. Bull! And, what has the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)? The DTI has a mandate to monitor prices of prime commodities in the market? Yet, despite the continued rise of prices commodities in the local market, the DTI has not taken any measure to check on this. The DTI is only good at churning press releases about warning unscrupulous traders of sanctions. Now, it appears that the DTI is only good at double talk. This government agency is only good at monitoring the prices of goods without doing anything to stop those who over price the products. We often heard unsavory things about these government agencies. Europe in 2015 - a real challenge Happy New Year my dear readers! The new year will be a challenge for the EU. The economy has to be boosted with public investments worth billions, and a clear policy towards Russia is more urgent than ever. “We will have a breath of fresh air, but not galeforce winds,” said European Commission President JeanClaude Juncker, when he was asked in an interview, if he expected any changes in 2015. And I strongly agree with him. The EU Commission wants to give a new impetus to the EU’s struggling economy and focus primarily on the creation of jobs and its investment program worth 315 billion euros ($381 billion). “Nonetheless, balancing the national budgets will continue to be important,” Juncker said, hoping to reduce expectations in economic crisis countries such as Italy and France. The Commission’s economic forecasts predict a modest growth rate of 1.1 percent for the euro zone, with developments in single member states continuing to be markedly different: Germany will fare reasonably well, whereas other major euro zone countries

Being a teacher for quite some time now, I can safely say that I have been around children between the age of 7-12 quite enough. I know what I can let them get away with and what need to be dealt with right there and then or after a while. Children can be exasperating creature, they will test your limits. They are also sensitive and delicate beings. Their attitudes vary, depending on their upbringing, cultural background, environment, and religion among others. The way they would react to certain things would largely depend on those. Bullying has been around since time immemorial. The acts of bullying happen everywhere, not just in school. It usually happens when there is no adult around. It happens a lot also in a classroom situation, where different kind of children are put together of the same age group. Teachers are the first adult that should be aware if acts of bullying are occurring. According to the book of Deborah Carpenter, Everything Parents’ Guide to Dealing with Bullies, the common behavior attributed to bullying are name-calling, rumors, verbal threats, menacing, harassment, intimidation, social isolation or exclusion, and physical assaults. Most of these can happen in a classroom situation all at once. How does the teacher cope these apart from imparting

overwhelming. These things can really be trying times for a teacher. Parents can also do their part. They can do this by getting involved in the going ons in their children’s life. They should be sensitive in the child’s change moods and attitudes. Missing school or lack of enthusiasm in going to school is an indication that something is not right. Children who are perceived to be weak and timid are the target of bullies. Parents and teachers alike should have a clean identification of the kind of children they have in their care so they can be on the lookout if there are unusual things that are happening. In a classroom, since there are at the most, forty children, the teacher should mind those tattle that children tell. Most of them are true if not all. They may be little things but they hold some truths. There are a lot of ways that a teacher can detect these things they just need to be mindful. Bullying is really an unrelenting problem in schools today especially in this generation. The school holds a great responsibility in ensuring student’s safety, security, and emotional wellness. If bullying is prevented, there is a high probability of students staying in school and become the best and most confident individual in his career of choice.

Seized smuggled sugar disappears from Customs warehouse in Zambo

AMBOANGA CITY – Hundreds of sacks of seized smuggled sugar have mysteriously disappeared from the custody of the Bureau of Customs in the southern Filipino port city of Zamboanga, officials said.

Officials said local authorities have confiscated 1,170 sacks of sugar on January 6 and handed all these to the Customs, but it had been discovered that only 325 sacks remain at the agency’s warehouse at the Port of Zamboanga. Mayor Maria Isabelle Salazar has called for a thorough investigation into the missing Thailand Mitr Phol sugar after inspecting the warehouse. Salazar rushed to the warehouse following

reports of the disappearance of 845 bags weighing nearly 85 tons of Mitr Phol sugar. Port police told Salazar that there was also a group of men who wanted to take the remaining sugar purportedly on her instruction, but authorities refused to release them. Salazar ordered authori-

ties to investigate who these men were. “I will not tolerate the use of my name for smuggling activities. I will not tolerate smuggling and all other illegal activities in Zamboanga City. Persons responsible for illegal activities will be met (sic) with the law,” she said in a statement. The mayor has also questioned the slow response of the Bureau of Customs here to the anti-smuggling operations by local authorities.

She has written to Customs Commissioner John Philip Sevilla to complain about this, adding, “We have to show fast action versus smuggling (activities in Zamboanga City).” The Bureau of Customs here had many times in the past released seized rice smuggled from Sabah in Malaysia even if its importers had no permits from the National Food Authority to import rice abroad. 2014 climate change forums educate thousands in Zambo City ZAMBOANGA CITY -- In line with the government’s advocacy for more climate change-resilient communities, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) here has conducted a total of 31 forums on climate change and disaster preparedness, educating an approximated 5,000 residents for 2014. The forums, which brought PIA to far-flung communities, schools, and other places in the locality, aimed to provide the residents with information regarding the effects of climate change, localizing said information, and called for more community involvement in planning for adaptation and mitigation. Dave Malcampo, PIAZamboanga City Information Center Manager stressed the need for all sectors to be educated on climate change. “Nobody is exempted. When typhoons and other calamities come, everyone is affected. Everyone should be prepared,” he emphasized. In September last year, a trainers’ training on climate change adaptation advocacy was held in Zamboanga, with participants coming from different government and non-government agencies including the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Education, Silsilah Dialogue Movement, Zabida and others. The training, through a PIA-produced

video documentary and lectures gave the participants information on how to effectively disseminate information on climate change and disaster preparedness to their communities and clients. As of December last year, several sectors were covered for the forums to include students, parent leaders, teachers, social workers, uniformed personnel, government and non-government workers, barangay officials and residents, and even jail inmates. Part of the advocacy during the forums is to call for more participatory planning in the community level for disaster preparedness. “Residents should work with the barangay officials and be responsible enough in planning for disasters,” Malcampo stressed. The talks during these forums highlighted the availability of disaster risk reduction management funds, which are to be utilized for both preparedness activities and actual calamities. “Every family should have a disaster plan, and everyone’s role – the children and the parents’ should be made clear,” he added. “We are hoping that you would trickle down what you have learned to your families, friends and relatives. Rodriguez cited the critical revisions of RA 6239 in the proposed Act as the following: 1. Revisiting the scope of activities and services defining the practice of forestry; 2. Deletion of the provision requiring area specialists in every area coverage of the Foresters Licensure Examination; 3. Removal of the provision along registration of forestry professionals without examination, except in case of foreign reciprocity; 4. Reorientation of the specific areas of topics to be covered in the Foresters Licensure Examination; 5. Requiring that only Bachelor of Science in Forestry (BSF) graduates and not mere equivalent degrees are qualified to take the Foresters Licensure Examination; 6. Involving the active

participation of the accredited professional organization concerned and CHED, among others, in the matter of education and practice of the forestry profession; 7. Climate change is a worldwide phenomenon that calls for an immediate action. The urgency of minimizing and eventually putting an end to the destructive catastrophes which rooted from the abnormality of the climate’s cycle is every nation’s responsibility. Though the issue has been one of the concerns of humanity from the 19th century up to the present, worse comes to worst, the problem still is unresolved. In the Philippines, there are two laws that have been crafted, ratified, and promulgated by legislators to mitigate the effect of climate change. The first law is Republic Act No. 9003 otherwise known as Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. This decree declares the adoption of a systematic, comprehensive, and ecological solid waste management program as a policy of the state. The other law is Republic Act No. 9729 also known as the Climate Change Act of 2009. It specifies full protection and advancement of the people to a healthful ecology in accordance with the rhythm and harmony of nature. However, a number of Filipinos, both young

and old, take the issue of climate change superficially. They think that the problem is beyond their duties and responsibilities. They do not even bother themselves to make their share by educating others or by modeling through righteous actions. These people have assumed that climate change is a national government concern which needs thorough investigation and planning before implementing appropriate actions. On the contrary, many Filipinos still aspire to live in a peaceful and a secure community far from fear of adversities. Men in uniform, persons in the academe, magnates of the business industry, students and the general public are working handin-hand to minimize the effect of climate change. Some of them are continuously indoctrinating the people through symposiums, seminarworkshops, and awareness campaigns. Others are initiating clean-up drives, tree planting and tree growing activities. These concerned citizens believe that every little action accompanies great result. Accordingly, best practices start in the family. Simple segregation of waste materials, regulating the use of electricity,

unplugging of electric cords for appliances not in use, condemning burning of plastics and other trashes, and embracing the joy of walking for short distance transactions are just few of the contributions among countrymen worth emulating. In view of the fact that parents are the role models of the

youth, they should have to lead their children to become the agents of the Almighty God on earth. The more these young people are trained to do right things, the more they turn out to be responsible citizens of the country. But, teachers should not pass on all the responsibilities of trans-

forming the perspectives of the whole community to the parents alone. As trustees in the school, teachers should reinforce positivism towards clean and green environment to students as well as to parents. The more families are brought to realization and transformed to become stewards of God’s gifts,

the more they turn out to be warriors of ecological equilibrium. Since nothing is reached by just a wink of an eye, every second of a minute is really precious. Thus, community involvement is no longer an option to solve climate change but a solution itself in the process.

CAB set to remove PH airline fuel surcharge

T

he significant reduction in fuel prices has made irrelevant the fuel surcharge, according to Civil Aeronautics Board executive director Atty. Carmelo Arcilla. The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) is scrapping the fuel surcharge on domestic and international flights to lower the cost of passenger fare and airfreight fees, following the continued decline in the price of oil in the global market. Atty. Arcilla said the effectivity of the removal of the fuel surcharge for "all international and domestic airlines with operations in the Philippines" will depend on the signing of the final resolution. "This surcharge is imposed by airlines to cover volatile price levels of fuel like upward spikes," Arcilla explained.

"Because of the significant reduction in fuel prices, there is now no more basis for the surcharge," the CAB chief added. Global oil prices have fallen sharply over the last six months and are seen to recover only in the second half of 2015. Dexter Yu, director of the Aircargo Forwarders of the Philippines, Inc., told PortCalls in a text message that "this is good news for the industry as it makes airfreight more competitive and a more viable alternative." Globe hosts event in support of gov’t’s transparent transactions MANILA - Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. (Globe) said that it is working to support the Philippine government’s drive to institutionalize transparency in its transactions through events such as #KabantayNgBayan. #KabantayNgBayan: Procurement Hack is an event that gathers top developers, “data gurus” and designers in a competition to ideate potential applications to help Filipinos understand and monitor the government’s procurement process. At the same time, it will help match government needs with prospective bidders and assemble a history or track record or previous bidders. The event was the result of the collaborative efforts of Globe, the Procurement Service and Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System (PSPhilGEPS), and Open Data Philippines to harness the potential of information and communications technology (ICT).

It not only aims to promote government transparency but also increase public awareness of the procurement process by way of a “hack” marathoncompetition where participants can create apps inside 24 hours to solve a particular challenge. Developers, programmers, designers, researchers and information technology experts in groups of three to four converged for the “Hackathon” to create web-based and mobile apps intended to facilitate efficiency in bidding and open up the procurement process to the public. They were provided with ultra-fast data connections as well as a conducive work environment to assist them in creating innovative apps from government data. ASEAN unveils plans for formal declaration of AEC The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for 2015 will focus on bringing down the remaining barriers to trade, face up to nontariff barriers and rising protectionism, and lay out a decade-long plan for economic growth in the sub-region. Malaysia's Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed in a statement outlined plans for the ASEAN Community, including a strategy to include small and medium-sized enterprises into the global chain. This year, the 10 member-countries are set to declare officially the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), an integrated region whose 620 millionplus population "will be afforded the opportunity to become a single market and production base with a deeper sense of shared ASEAN identity, and a major actor on the global stage," he said. Malaysia is ASEAN chairman for 2015, and its Ministry of International Trade and Industry will spearhead the implementation of the AEC initiative. The trade official reiterated that ASEAN is committed to delivering on its promise of the AEC because ASEAN's credibility and the continued prosperity of the region are on the line, and has the overarching objec-

tive of helping "establish an ASEAN which enjoys peace and prosperity." This year, the bloc will iron out the remaining barriers to regional trade, he said, and "will not shy away from addressing the sensitive issue of protectionism among ASEAN member states and will seek to defuse the rising rhetoric of nationalism." The association will also work on further reducing nontariff barriers, promoting a freer flow of services, and harmonizing standards and procedures. "It will be a year when we introduce a robust and inclusive small and medium enterprises agenda to be implemented across ASEAN," said Mustapa. "But 2015 is not without challenges. We know that there are pressures for more regulation and protectionism. However, there is no backtracking. We have seen and experienced the benefits of closer inter-ASEAN integration in the form of freer trade flows, more ASEAN investments, more economic cooperation," he stated. This year will also see the launch of "an ambitious plan for ASEAN for the next 10 years" that will continue efforts toward economic integration. And to think this did not occur during our prime. In fact this was the highest asking price at the gate of any Yano concert ever. I also asked Delilah how many of her inquiries asked her about the erstwhile vocalist. And she said about only 5. That was also a nice revelation because a lot of people are already aware that I continued Yano and stand as the lead man vocals and lead guitarist. They also know the fact that Yano never really stopped. And that Yano had been in Davao as its base and still continues the trademark of Yano’s music and poetry for the glory of our National and now Inter-

national music scene. For indeed how will the industry regain its glory if Yano did call it quits? I don’t think I’d ever let that happen. I’d rather want to encourage all to make it happen again, and make it stay that way forever. Of course with ‘Ya’ in it, greater than ‘no.’ That I think is the balance of Yano, beginning at 51% ‘Ya’ and 49% ‘no’. he municipality of Manticao snatched P150,000 in cash for winning Best in Booth during the weeklong 2nd Kuyamis Festival 2015 in Misamis Oriental held last January 5 to 9. In a rite held last Friday at Limketkai Luxe Hotel, Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano handed out the cash and trophy to a beaming Mayor Roberto Lagrosas who responded by thanking his constituents for the collective effort they had done to ensure their team’s success. It was a second peat for Manticao which also raced first during the 1st Kuyamis Festival 2014 held

exactly a year ago. The ceremony last Friday marked the end of the weeklong festival which highlighted the kuyamis variety of coconuts that is commonly grown in the province. The word kuyamis itself is the etymology or the origin of the word Misamis from which the province, now celebrating its 85th anniversary, is named after. Emano vowed that 2016 would be an even bigger festival and would then be at par with festivals held elsewhere in the country. The best in booth competition was the highlight of the five-day festival and participants were

judged according to aesthetic value (60 percent) and economic value (40 percent). Capturing second spot to haul in P100,000 in cash was Talisayan while sliding to third slot with P50,000 prize was Jasaan. The rest of the participating LGUs got P10,000 consolation each. Named Festival Queen was the beauteous Miss Villanueva 2014 Mary Gle-Ann Fabela. Basketball champion was Jasaan (P30,000 cash prize) while volleyball champ was Libertad (P30,000). After the Yano Concert

I

t was Dec. 20, 2014 in CDO. And it was Nostalgia 90’s indeed! Good, precious memories of the 90’s were relived. And the concert itself so turned out to be one precious moment that will stay in the holdings of time, in the hearts and minds of the Cagayanons. Everybody was up.

No one was at their tables anymore. And this was not aroused by a roll call of any sort. It simply just so happened: it was indeed Nostalgia. Everyone was on stage. The stage was so little at about 4 x 2 m that it was in a dire threat of falling apart into minute pieces! What’s more is the when the chorus of the

song comes, they would jump up and down together in impeccable timing. I would glance at them while singing at the mic just to see if they are alright and still having a stage to stand on after each jump. Everybody wore smiles that literally ran up to their ears. Their eyes were lit with overflowing happiness.

It was as if there was never yet such a moment in a very long with that magnitude, that friendship, that brotherhood, that excitement,

that love for all and for Yano’s music and all that good that you can possess in your spirit in a very, very singular moment in your life.

And there is really not to exaggerate how that night turned out; because that night was an exaggeration of all YANO | Page A10
