THE world’s first drone capable of autonomously carrying a person may testfly in Nevada later this year, the United States, Chinese Aerial technology company EHang Holdings Limited told Xinhua on Sunday. The Chinese company based in China’s southern province of Guangdong and the state of Nevada are trying to make this happen by moving forward with testing the EHang 184 Autonomous Aerial Vehicle, the first drone to offer autonomous human flight over short-tomedium distances.

The state’s Institute for Autonomous Systems(NIAS) has already given the China’s company permission to test fly the drone. DAVAO City––Presidentelect Rodrigo Duterte met with leaders of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) late Friday night to discuss peace under his administration but held a separate one-on-one meeting with MILF chair Al Haj Murad Ebrahim afterwards. Duterte met with Datu Abul Khayr Alonto of Lanao del Sur, chair of a faction of the MNLF and the MILF delegation led by chair Murad at Jacky’s Restocafe in Hotel Elena. “The group pledged their support and cooperation to the new government and (to) move forward (in) the peace process,” Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, Duterte’s Executive Assistant told MindaNews. “One-on-one sila ni Murad,” said Go, who will be incoming Special Assistant and chief of the Presidential Management Staff. He said the DuterteMurad conversation, which he estimated at 20 minutes, took place after the group meeting. Go, who was in the group meeting, declined to give other details. Murad could not be reached for comment but MindaNews sources who were present said the rest of the delegation left the function room to allow the two leaders to talk but returned later to formally close the meeting. It was the first meeting between the 67-year old Murad and the 71-year old Duterte, who visited the MILF’s Camp Darapanan in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao on February 27 en route to his campaign rally in Cotabato City. Murad was out of the country then and he was received by 1st vice chair Ghazali Jaafar and members of the Central Committee. Two more attempts for a one-on-one meeting before the elections did not push through. “Maganda ang nangyari. Very productive,” said a source privy to what Duterte and Murad talked about, but declined to provide details. Expectedly, the fate of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) was raised and the source said the discussion was “very positive.” The 16th Congress under the Aquino administration failed to pass the BBL that would have paved the way for the establishment of the Bangsamoro, the new autonomous politi-

cal entity that would have replaced the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). The BBL’s passage is crucial in the peace process as it is tied up with the decommissioning of MILF weapons and combatants, as well as the gradual redeployment of the military from the “former conflict areas” during the normalization phase. Earlier, Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, Jr., Duterte’s choice for Speaker of the House of Representatives, told reporters in Manila that there was “no more need” for a BBL in view of the plan to amend the 1987 Constitution to shift to a federal system of government. ‘Template’ Duterte during the campaign repeatedly said his administration would correct the historical injustices against the Moro people. In his February visit to the MILF’s Camp Darapanan, Duterte spoke about his plan to have the Constitution amended to allow for the shift from the Presidential system to a federal form but “if it takes time, and if only to defuse tension, in my government I will convince Congress to pass the BBL then make it as a template for federal states.” At the Cotabato City plaza, the lone Presidential candidate from Mindanao stressed the need to correct historical injustices committed against the Moro people and vowed that under his administration, “we will try to go federalism. In the last Presidential Debate in April, Duterte said “nothing will appease the Moro people if you do not give them the BBL.” Asked in a press conference at the “Malacanang of the South” in Panacan on March 31 for clarification on his campaign promise and Alvarez’ plan on the BBL, Duterte replied: “Federalism would recognize the territory you are in now… What Alvarez meant was that we will not adopt the BBL to the exclusion of others… I’m willing to let go of the configuration now, yung boundaries nila, okay ra. Displaced lumads want to go home, ask military to leave Tuesday, June 21, 2016

CAGAYAN de Oro City–– More than 218 individual evacuees, most of them Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in the conflict areas in Misamis Oriental on Friday would go back home once the military leave the farming community. The evacuees from the hinterlands of Banglay, Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental, came down to the city here

and camp at the provincial capitol grounds Thursday last week for fear of being caught in the crossfire between the warring communist rebels and government troopers there. Nenita Helogon, Secretary General of the tribal group Tagtabolon, said that the evacuees would go home once the military leave the farming villages in Banglay. She said that tribal residents trooped down from the mountains of Lagon-

glong at the height of the military operation after an armed encounter with the communist rebels in the area. “The military has set up an army barracks in our community and has started to conduct searches in our houses for suspected rebels,” Helogon said. She said that the action of the military was a clear violation of the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and Inter-

national Law (CARHRIL). The tribal group also demanded support from the provincial government in terms of foods, medicines, and agricultural assistance considering that the evacuees are still reeling from the effects of the El Nino phenomenon. Capt. Patrick Martinez, spokesperson of the army’s 4 th Infantry Division, has belied the accusation that the military has violated the CARHRIL.

“The presence of suspected rebels of the New People’s Army (NPA) compelled the military to conduct a combat operation in the area as mandated by law,” Martinez said. He said that the military is also camping at a distance from the tribal community. Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano, of Misamis Oriental, said that the provincial disaster risk reduction management office (PDRRMO) has taken care of the needs

of the evacuees. Francisco D y, the head of the PDDRMO, said that the provincial government has sent doctors and nurses to Lagonglong to address the medical needs of the evacuees. According to Dy, the provincial government now also processes the other needs of the tribal community in order to pave the way for the release of additional assistance to the evacuees.

Writing about the Liberal Party’s petition for the extension of the Statement of Contribution and Expenses (SOCE) was overtaken by the events. The German side’s plan is to get China involved and to use its influence - a strategy that already worked in the nuclear talks with Iran. How about the new dimension of market power? Concerning cooperation in third country markets, Germany’s idea is to include China, use its economic power - and make money. Just one example: If the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) and Siemens join forces on high-speed trains in third countries, flanked by the China Railways Group and Deutsche Bahn in the fields of Chinese-European freight train transport and the service and maintenance of high-speed trains, that means a market power of entirely new dimensions. Zambo police probe military officer’s gun slay ZAMBOANGA City -- The local police have activated a special investigation task group to conduct deep investigation over the gun slay of a military officer late Sunday in this city. Supt. Luisito Magnaye, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) director, said the probe body, Special Task Group Tiny, is named after the nickname of the victim, Lt. Col. Cristobal Julian Paolo Perez. Perez, 46, at the time of his death, is the personnel chief of the Army’s First Infantry Division based in Pulacan, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur. Initial investigation showed that Perez was repeatedly shot by riding in tandem suspects around 9:20 p.m. Sunday outside his residence in Buenbrazo

Pilot evacuation center in BXU to house 500+ individuals Butuan City -- Regional Director Minda B. Brigoli of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Caraga spearheaded last June 8, 2016 the turn-over ceremony of the P17.9M-worth pilot evacuation center funded DSWD and this city’s local government unit (LGU). Brigoli bared that the multi-million project located at Purok 10, Forest Park, Barangay Bancasi, this city has a capacity to house 500 plus individuals. “We are so happy that finally this building is already completed and now ready to be used anytime another disaster will happen in the city,” she said. “This evacuation center is purposely built to provide convenient and safe place for the victims of calamities/disasters, so that in a way we will provide relief from their burdens of being displaced from their homes,” Brigoli added. Aside from the establishment, the regional office also provided other facilities such as big pots/ kettles, plastic containers, and ladles which will be of use when internallydisplaced persons (IDPs) will be staying at the evacuation center should the city be visited by disasters/ calamities. City Administrator Regie Mag-usara and City Councilor Sammy Amante both represented LGU Butuan during the said ceremony to formally receive the symbolic key of responsibility and accountability for the evacuation center. The Department of Education conducted this year’s Brigada Eskwela also known as the National Schools Maintenance Week on May 30 to June 4, 2016 with the theme “Tayo Para sa Paaralang Ligtas, Maayos at Handa Mula Kindergarten Hanggang Senior High School” where all education stakeholders contributed their time, effort and resources in ensuring that the school facilities are ready in time for the school opening. Parents, school alumni and other people from the community were encouraged to join the weeklong annual program.

According to Wikipedia, Social Studies is the integrated study of the social sciences, humanities and the history, further it provides coordinated and systematic study, drawing upon such disciplines such as anthropology, archaeology, economics, geography, history, jurisprudence, philosophy, political science, psychology, religion and sociology, as well as appropriate content from the humanities, mathematics, and natural sciences, so as seen with this vast areas of differing disciplines, as teachers we could really capacitate our students to love Social Studies. Definitely, it is not as easy as one, two, and three in involving the students to participate in classroom discussions especially when it comes to the subject Social Studies, that is why it is where our teaching strategies came in. Since it involves the study of history, we have to in-

tegrate some teaching modes and modules that would entice the students to actively participate in group discussions. One strategy is that somewhat we can integrate games in the discussion, be it in the question and answer form or group strength or making them choose the correct answer in which their classmates will carry the letters as the choices in front. Through this, they will not tag the subject as boring or no sense at all since they can now have active engages to do and follow. As teachers we should understand that it is not that easy to memorize names and dates and figures and places marked in the history. With this, as teachers we should inevitably capacitate our students to not only go to school and study Social Studies instead we should capacitate them to love the subject and not just a mere requirement to pass the subject or proceed to the next grade.

In November, the Ombudsman ordered the DILG to implement the dismissal order. In the case of the motion for reconsideration filed by Guialani on November 2015, to uphold the antigroup decision in order to prevent Moreno to continue to hold office and exercise his duties as City Mayor, it is now eight months, and the Ombudsman has not yet to act on the petition. Guialani was asking the anti-graft court to sustain its decision to dismiss and perpetually disqualify Moreno and Banez from public service. The people of Cagayan De Oro want the anti-graft court to uphold the dismissal order it penned in August 2015 because the WPI granted by the CA to Moreno would expire on June 30, 2016. SM Supermalls celebrate the country’s 118th Independence Day On June 12, 2016, 58 SM malls nationwide united in observing the Philippines’ 118th Independence Day with a simultaneous flagraising activity and numerous activities lined up for the occasion. In Mindanao, SM malls had a festive celebration through inspired installations and performances that were reflective of the cultural heritage of the region. At SM City Davao, the Independence Day was marked with a flag hoisting ceremony at the mall’s front covered walk along Quimpo Boulevard. The occasion was kicked off by a parade of 118 colors. Around 250 mall tenants and mall employees attended the occasion along with more than 300 bikers from BJMP and the Habagat Bikers Group. Joining the celebration at SM Davao were the Department of Education XI, the Department of Social Welfare and Development XI, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration XI, and the Department of Foreign Affairs—Mindanao. Apart from the musical performances, in conjunction with the Independence Day celebration was the Philippine Eagle Foundation’s interactive exhibition for the Philippine Eagle Week from June 5 at the Annex Art Strip. Among the exhibit’s components were a forum on conservation, art sessions as well as wildlife interaction. In SM Lanang Premier, mall employees, clad in various national costumes and Mindanaoan tribal wear, together with tenants, security forces and various community stakeholders, gathered for the flag-raising activity along the mall’s Grand Boulevard. Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industries President Bonifacio Tan graced the activity and shared a message to the audience. Delegates from

Bing Cariño, who curated “The Lutes of Philippine Exhibit,” said that the exhibit raises awareness to the public, especially the youth, about the rich and diverse culture of the country. In SM City Cagayan de Oro, employees take pride in wearing Filipiniana and Barong Tagalog to show their love for the country on Independence Day. To add to the patriotic celebration, Momz Perfect wowed the audience with their powerful rendition of OPM classics while the Xavier University Dance Troupe performed beautiful and vibrant Philippine folk dances. Other highlights include the solo performance of Ran Obenita singing “Umagang Kay Ganda” and the ballet dances of Grace and Pointes to commemorate the Philippine Independence. For many years, SM Supermalls has stood at the forefront of engaging the public in the country’s Independence Day celebration.
