Commuters stranded as major bridge in Misor impassable By GERRY LEE GORIT Correspondent
CAGAYAN de Oro City–– Motorists and commuters travelling between Cagayan de Oro City in the west and Butuan City in the east remain stranded Tuesday
morning as work to repair the washed-out approach of a major bridge continue. The Mambayaan Bridge in Balingasag town was made impassable when one of its approaches was totally washed away by rampaging floodwaters along the river
brought by tropical depression Agaton. Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano, who went to the site on Tuesday, said engineers of the Department of Public Works and Highways would be able to open half a lane
only by Tuesday afternoon and only for people and motorcycles. Emano had sent additional heavy equipment but the DPWH team needed more if the approach to the bridge is to be repaired sooner.
The bridge links the major cities of Northern Mindanao and Caraga regions. There was no detour road available in the area. A temporary ladderbridge set up by residents had to be removed by the officials for the safety of
pedestrians when the river’s current did not abate and heavy equipment started working in the area. Emano said 4 individuals in the province remain missing, including a 40-year-old man identified as Romeo See bridge, page 11
