School exec freed after 7 months of captivity Z A M B OA N G A C i t y – –A public school official kidnapped almost seven months ago in Zamboanga del Sur was finally released by his captors late Tuesday after payment of a P500,000 ransom, belated reports said. Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre, Zamboanga del Sur police director, said the victim, Rudy Luna, was released around 11:51 p.m. at the fish port of Tukuran town in Zamboanga del Sur. CA stops NTC order to telcos to refund subscribers
THE Court of Appeals (CA) has stopped the implementation of an order by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) directing the telecommunications companies (telcos) to refund to their subscribers the excess collection from text messages or the short message service (SMS). The CA’s Sixth Division has issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) as prayed for in the petition filed by the Digitel Philippines Incorporated (Digitel). In a four-page resolution dated Aug. 20, 2014, the CA stopped the implementation of the Nov. 7, 2012 and May 7, 2014 order of the NTC directing the telcos to make a refund to their subscribers because of excessive collection in their SMS rate. In the assailed order, the NTC directed the telcos to refund 20 centavos which is an excess in their collection The new East Wing (DOH) building of the J.R. Borja General Hospital is a P45-M DOH Health Facility Enhancement per “off-net SMS” because Program (HFEP) infrastructure project. The Cagayan de Oro LGU provided a P14.6M counterpart fund to complete of their non-compliance the project.

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- The New People’s Army (NPA) admitted responsibility to the assasination of a municipal councilor last Thursday, August 21, at Opol, Misamis Oriental. In s statement issued after the ambush of town councilor Cecilio “Anggong” Abuhan, the NPA said a team under the Regional Command of the North Central Mindanao Region assasinated Councilor Abuhan, at 4:00 pm on August 21, 2014, at Bagocboc, Opol, Misamis Oriental.
Abuhan succumbed to eight bullet wounds -- six in the head and two in the body. He was riding a single motorcycle when ambushed by armed men who escaped using motorcycle and hid their identities by using helmets. Margilen Abuhan, wife of the slain councilor and who is chairwoman of Barangay Bagocboc, said she received information that his husband was among the targets of a liquidation
