Galario administers wedding of 108 couples

VALENCIA City––Mayor Jose “The Action Man” M. Galario Jr. has administered the wedding of at least 108 unwed couples during the “mass wedding” ceremony held at the Covered Court here on February 14.

“Kini nga proyekto akong ginahimo kada tuig aron mahimong legal ang pagpanag-uban niadtong mag-tiayon nga wala pa makasal (This project is conducted every year to legalize the marriage of those unwed couple),” Galario said in vernacular adding, “mao sab kini ang panahon nga mapakita sa lalaki ang iyang dako ug tinuanay nga gugma ngadto sa iyang napiling kapikas (This is also the time for the man to express his real feeling and great love to his choosen partner).”

“After this mass wedding, you’re no longer called ‘live-in’ or ‘bedtime partner’ but two people bound together under our law by virtue of the power bested upon me as local chief executive of the city of Velencia,” added Galario.

Bukidnon hosts first ever national language summit MALAYBALAY City–– Lordjane Caballero-Dordas from the Panay-Bukidnon tribe was pleased to get acquainted with other indigenous peoples (IPs) in the country.

Known in her tribe as Lagdungan (meaning “cannot be overshadowed”), the granddaughter of a “Binukot” (well-kept maiden) is just one of the hundreds of IPs from all over the

Philippines who gathered here for the country’s first ever language summit.

Members of different ethno-linguistic tribes such as the Aeta, B’laan, Sama-Bajau, Panay-Bukidnon, Manobo, Tagakaolo, Higaonon, and Subanen, among others, were here for a three-day summit that tests the Filipino language as lingua franca in crosscultural communication.

Delia Giron of the Ivatan tribe in Batanes said she appreciated the discussions in the open forum held on February 13.

She said, “Naipalabas talaga ang mga hinaing ng mga katutubo...Very accommodating din ang mga guests (The IPs were really able to air their grievances...

The guests speakers were also very accommodating).”

Arnold Reyes, a BuhidMangyan from Mindoro, echoed this, saying: “magandang pagkakataon ito para sa isang mapayapang usapan (The summit was a good opportunity for a peaceful dialogue).”

The open forum tackled IP issues such as the perceived exclusion of the Bajaus in RA 8371 or the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA), the absence of IP mandatory representatives (IP-MR) in some LGUs, mining in areas without the Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) of the Aetas in Pampanga, and IP scholarships.

The issues were addressed to a panel composed of Virgilio Almario, chair of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino; Leonor Oralde-Quintayo, chair of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP); Francisco Fernandez, undersecretary for Peace and Order at the Department of the Interior and Local Government; Datu Antonio Kinoc of the MILF peace panel; and Sukarno Tanggol, chancellor of the Mindanao State University- Iligan Institute of Technology.

Datu Hussayin Arpa, a Sama-Bajau and the president of the Philippine Council for Sama and Bajau, claimed they had been left out in the ancestral domain talks.

He said, “Nakalimutan na ang Sama-Bajau...Dahil ba sa dagat kami nakatira kaya di na kami kasali sa ancestral domain? (The Sama-Bajau had been forgotten. Is it because we live in the sea that we can’t claim our ancestral domain?)”

The Bajaus, also known as Sama Dilaut, is a Moro ethnic group of sea dwellers found in the Sulu Archipelago, Mindanao coastal areas as well as in Sabah, Malaysia.

NCIP’s Leonor OraldeQuintayo responded that IPRA also recognizes ancestral waters. “May ancestral waters, ang problema ay kung paano mabibigyang diin ang right na ito,” she said.

Regarding the lack of IP representation in some LGUs, Quintayo said that “they avoid filing a writ of mandamus (a judicial order) but that they would see alternatives to push for its widespread implementation.”

NOTHING is more special this Valentine season than a P2 million pre-Valentine gift from the compassionate queen of Misamis Oriental second district Rep. Juliette Uy to Barangay Luyong Bonbon, Opol, Misamis Oriental.

Yearning long before, Punong Barangay Roland B. Alfeche of Luyong Bonbon in Opol town was grateful enough when the lawmaker expressed her compassion to help Barangay Luyong Bonbon to construct a

Covered Court worth P2 million.

A pre-Valentine visit at Opol, Misamis Oriental with Mayor Max Sino, Uy has recognized the desire of Alfeche to have a Covered Court. The lawmaker did not hesitate and granted P2 million. It will be constructed this year.

On one hand, Uy has also granted the request of Ms. Nielle B. Sabornido, principal 1 of Barangay Luyong Bonbon Elementary School, for the repair of its school stage.

Alfeche personally submitted Sabornido’s request to the neophyte lawmaker.

Even without the Priority Development Acceleration Fund (PDAF), Rep. Uy did not stop from looking for other means so she can address the needs of her constituents in Misamis Oriental’s second district.

About Opol

Opol is a second class municipality in the province of Misamis Oriental.

According to the 2010 Philippine census, it has a population of 52,108 in 12,731 households.

Opol was created from the barrios of Opol, Igpit, and Lower Iponan, formerly part of Cagayan de Oro, by virtue of Republic Act No. 524, approved June 15, 1950.

Thousands of families in eight towns in Iloilo, including Ajuy, Lemery, Passi City, Sara, Balasan, Estancia, Carles and C oncepcion benefited from Villar’s roofing project.

The towns of Altavas, Batan, Ibahay, Balete in Aklan and

Pontevedra, Sigma, Dumarao, and Tapaz in Capiz also received roofing materials from Villar.

“In our own capacity, we are continuously helping the survivors. They need our help.

Little by little, we are doing what we can to address the needs of the survivors and help them rise from this devastation brought by the typhoon.

We hope we can encourage more people and companies to continue helping because the survivors really need our help,” said Villar.

Earlier, Villar was also in Leyte and Samar, provinces worst hit by the typhoon, where he launched his “Bangon Leyte Roofing Project”, an initiative of Villar to rebuild the affected

schools and houses by providing roofing materials.

Sawmill in Agusan del Sur yields illegal logs, sawn lumber

BUTUAN City––A sawmill, illegally operating in Purok 11, Barangay Poblacion, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur yielded some P32,420 worth of illegally-sourced logs and sawn lumber in a raid by police authorities Thursday afternoon.

In a joint anti-illegal logging operation, personnel of the 13th RPSC Tabon-tabon Patrol Base and Sibagat Municipal Police Station confiscated at

around 5:45 pm 12 pieces or 2.5 cubic meters round logs of mixed dipterocarp species with a market value of P7,500.00 and 69 pieces or 712 board feet sawn lumber of miscellaneous species worth P24,920.

Police did not say if the sawmill owner or workers were apprehended during the raid.

The forest products were scaled by CENRO Bayugan City Forester Sergio Dingding and are now deposited at Sibagat police station.

Scholarship program continues despite ‘pork barrel’ scrapping

BUTUAN City––Agusan del Norte First District Rep. Lawrence Lemuel Fortun has assured that the government’s scholarship program facilitated through his constituency office will remain and continue to be available to constituents of Butuan City and Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte.

Fortun made the assurance in response to reports that the scrapping of lawmakers’ Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or pork barrel allocations, would terminate the government scholarship program mostly financed by the controversial fund and facilitated at congressional districts.

According to the Agusan solon, he was aware of the concerns of students and parents on the matter saying he had lobbied with the national government to continue the implementation of the program which had helped a lot of students in the past.

To cushion the impact of the new system of identifying priority projects in his congressional district, Fortun said that he was able to synchronize efforts with the regional line agencies “in giving impetus to convergence and coordination in response to much needed development initiatives of the district.”

Fortun announced that not only will the scholarship grant remain available, but will be expanded as well. “This will reach even a greater number of poor and deserving students next school year.”

GIZ-CSO-FP vows to ensure Info Drive on CAB

Butuan City -- The Civil Society Organization-Forum for Peace- Iligan City is now on the move to cater initiative in informing the communities of Mindanao about the GPH-MILF Peace Process to its final stage after both panels ink the annexes of the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro and its Annexes.

In the recent Sectoral Group Meeting of the GIZ (German Agency for International Cooperation) Civil Peace Service Philippines, the Local Peace Expert (EFK) has pronounced the CSO-FP commitment to ensure on its program the information advocacy about the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro that Congress will signed soon.

In the CSO Peace Summit recently held in Davao, Presidential Peace Adviser Teresita Quintos Deles lauded the Civil Society Organization and other representatives of Mindanao Tri-People on its continuing initiatives to help and support the GPH-MILF Peace Process.

Mr. Juanito Enriquez Jr., Managing Director of the CSO-FP is now working with a local peace expert in Media to do the job and ensure its information advocacy on the peace process especially the birth of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) “yes we will be on our best to inform our communities about it.” He said.

These agreements shall compose the CAB, the final

peace agreement between the GPH and the MILF after years of negotiations that started in 1997. The GPHMILF Panels agreed to create the Bangsamoro Transistion Authority which OPPAP said has a critical role to play.

Meanwhile, GIZ-Civil Peace Service-Philippines, Program Coordinator, Dr. Matthias Oesterle thanked and lauded the new EFK’s (Local Peace Experts) in their commitment together with the help and support of their counterparts, the FFK’s (International Peace Experts).

On the other hand, during the CSO Peace Summit accordingly, Presidential Peaces Adviser Teresita Quintos Deles urged the CSOs to further work hard and help in inspiring the public to embrace a culture of peace.

The February 10-12 CSO Peace Summit in Davao was themed “Mindanao CSO Leaders Peace Summit: Developing Synergies and Enhanced Cooperation in Accompanying the Transition towards Bangsamoro.”

Parents Help Students Aim For Success

The novelty of a new school year is wearing off and classes are starting to get a little more challenging for your student. Students might have informed teacher that he / she is busy studying for midterms and that Mathematics or Science class is getting hard or you may not have heard from your child in a few days because he /she is spending hours upon hours in the library preparing for next week’s exams. If students sounds like this, they maybe overwhelmed with their academics. It may feel unsure of how to help your child succeed academically. You can breath deeply knowing that there are resources available for your student and ways to support your child through the semester as courses get more demanding.

Even though attending class plays a huge role in whether or not a student will understand the information, students have to do

more than just show up. Read assigned readings before class, take notes on the readings, take notes during class, and review all the materials after class has indeed.

This may help students understand the information better and feel less inclined to pull all- nighters before a big exam. Also, if student is finding a specific course challenging, encourage them to meet with the teacher outside of class time.

It is easy for the students to get overwhelmed when it feels like there is too much on their plate.

When students develop effective time management strategies, school work may be less overwhelming.

Encourage your student to keep track of their assignments, projects, classes, etc. by using a planner, or calendar. Also remind them to check their scheduled every day.

Students when given an extra motivation in their studies will most likely reap its success.

SGC TREE PLANTING

The School Governing Council (SGC) of Freedom Elementary School has joined the Tree Planting which took place in the vicinity of an identified reserved watershed area in Freedom Elementary School, Cabanglasan ,Bukidnon as their participation to the National Greening Program.

With this thought, the teachers of the aformentioned school took the first move through their own initiative to come up with a total of 200 in growing volumes of seedlings to be planted that day. The newly planted seedlings

were also provided with tree guard made by Nicasio Solitario a carpenter and one amongs the active parents of the said school.

The activity was a joint undertaking of parents,teachers and the pupils alike was an outreached program to developed their skills in tree planting and encourages more children to plant tress ensuring the value that “ A seedling planted today will be a tree tomorrow and will sustain life in the future”. The said activity was a bit exhausting and tiring yet fruitful.

One of the most important things in our life is value. But the question is, what do we value in our life? Most people value all those worldly things on earth.

Money, position, prestige, cars are some of the things that people give importance and therefore form part their value. But is it really the value that we need to attained?

The value that everyone should possess must be the value that can make us a better person. It must be a person who prioritize not only the worldly things instead the value that could uplift human dignity and avoiding selfish interest. If you begin to dream of something, think for the possible consequences towards others.

If you are about to eat a handful

of rice without much labor for it, think for those families who cannot even find something to fill in their empty stomach. If you are about to cut those trees in the forest think of those thousands of life that might be affected if their will be floods caused by heavy rains and nothing will hold those waters from the mountain regions.

It is a call for every one of us to reminisce what value we should acquire, cherished and live for it. It should be the value that makes us to be a better person not only in the eyes of the humanity but a better person to the eyes of the Most High.

We should not be like those people who are singing their own phrases instead let others to sing that phrases for you.

As professionals, we have to be dignified in our physical bearing, in words and actions that go with the wearing of uniforms be it in schools or private, public offices.

As what Emily Post says in her book Etiquette Advantage “The way we dress is not the only determining factor in the image we present, but dressing inappropriately or in a nonprofessional way usually doesn’t leave the impression of success.

The Future of Technology In Education

Schools will only need one major thing to be prepared for the future. They will not need software installed, servers or local file storage. School will need a fast robust internet connection. Infrastructure is paramount to the future of technology in education. This should be happening now. If you want to start to use mobile technology in your school, whether it is an iPad program or bring your own device (BYOD) program connectivity must be fast and reliable.School classroom are going to change. Thanks to the mobile devices, technology will be integrated into every part of school. In fact, it won’t just be the classrooms that will change, games fields, gyms and school trips will all change. Whether offsite or on the school, teachers, students and support staffs will all be connected.

This technology can encourage independent learning. Teachers

could adopt a flipped classroom approach more often. Students will take ownership of their own learning. Teachers can put resources for students online for students to use.

These could be videos, documents audio podcasts or interactive images. All of these resources can be accessed via a student’s computer, smartphone or tablet. As long as they have internet connection either via Wifi,3G or 4G they are good to go How often do teacher get an opportunity to collaborate productively using technology in the classroom? It isn’t always easy, However, students working on documents together using Google Apps is easy. These are all good skills for students to have. Of course, these collaborative tools are also very useful for teachers. Plenty of schools have already embraced this, but there’s still a way to go to ensure all school are ready for the future technology.

Imprisonment proposed for buying or selling of dissertations The practice of buying or selling dissertations, theses, term papers and other reports to acquire academic credentials must be outlawed and never tolerated, a lawmaker has declared.

Rep. Delphine Gan Lee is author of HB 3793 or the proposed “Academic Honesty Act of 2013.” The measure is entitled “An Act prohibiting the unlawful sale and purchase of dissertations, theses, term papers, essays, reports or any other assignment or school work.”

This measure if it becomes a law, will surelyhcleansed our educational system of incompetent employees and students.

Honesty amd hardwork should not be compromised.

Our country’s human development program, especially our educational system, should, among other important foundations, be based and developed on the principle of honesty and

Academic credentials are a necessity in obtaining employment, a promotion or higher compensation in employment, or admission to a prestigious institution but if to tinged with dishonest compliance of requirements, the person involved loses credibility.

Genuine credentials are need when presented in connection with any profession or occupation. But fake or copied ones are only for thieves.

Therefore it is imperative that such academic achievement be obtained only through the efforts of the person claiming it as his or her own, and not the work of people he or she just paid to write said materials.

“This bill seeks to make it unlawful for any person to sell, offer to sell, purchase or offer to purchase any material either

written or provided through electronic media which will be submitted by a student as his or her own work to any university, college, academy, school or other educational institution, or to a course, seminar or degree program held by such institution,” Lee explained.

Section 5 of HB 3793 provides that any person found guilty of violating the proposed law shall be meted a penalty of imprisonment of arresto menor (one day to thirty days), or a fine of not more than ten thousand pesos (P10,000), or both, at the discretion of the court, taking into consideration all attending circumstances.

The proposal which was presented to the Committee on Higher and Technical Education and the Committee on Basic Education for appropriate action and possible endorsement for plenary consideration and approval, is therefor laudable.

Development of micro, small and medium enterprises is neeeded today A measure that seeks to further strengthen the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector must be fasttracked in this perilous times because developing the MSMEs sector would promote the reduction of poverty.

Providing this sector with better incentives and benefits, more access to focused support for enhanced business performance, promoting support to key growth industries and facilitating financing support programs that are much-needed for growth will help improve the design and implementation of the nation’s MSMEs sector,.

Measures to assist MSMEs to integrate themselves in the formal economic market, which will bring forth more job opportunities and the enhanced growth of the nation’s economy.

The declared policy of the State to foster national development, promote inclusive growth and reduce poverty should encourage the establishment of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to facilitate local job creation and production in the country.

Micro enterprises comprised 91.6% of the total number of

MSMEs while small and medium enterprises accounted for 8% and 0.4%, respectively.

In terms of employment generation, MSMEs provided a total of 3,532,935 jobs in 2010 or 62.3% of the total jobs generated by all types of business establishments. Large enterprises generated 2,136,362 jobs and among the MSMEs, micro enterprises created 1,729,100 jobs while small and medium enterprises generated 1,417,672 and 386,163 jobs, respectively.

As the backbone of the Philippine economy, the MSME sector comprises about 99.6% of all registered firms nationwide, employs 62.3% of the labor force and contributes 32% to the economy,.

Under the measure to be known as the “Go Negosyo Act of 2014,” a “Negosyo Center” shall be established in all provinces, cities and municipalities under the supervision of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Council. The MSMED Council shall encourage public-private partnerships in the establishment and management of Negosyo Centers. It shall perform oversight functions and shall assign personnel to fulfill the functions of the Negosyo

Centers.

The Negosyo Centers shall be responsible for promoting ease of doing business and facilitating access to services for MSMEs within its jurisdiction. It shall accept and facilitate all registration application for MSMEs, integrate a unified business process system, encourage government institutions that are related to the business application process and supply information and services in training, financing and marketing.

The MSMED Council shall be composed of the Secretaries of the Departments of Trade and Industry (DTI), Agriculture (DA), Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Interior and Local Government, Science and Technology (DILG) and Tourism (DOT), Director General of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), Governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Chairman of the Small Business Corporation, three representatives from the MSME sector, one from the labor sector and the Chairpersons of the Senate Committee on Trade, Commerce and Entrepreneurship and the House Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship Development.

6th Cinema Rehiyon’s: From Baguio to Davao and now, to Germany

FROM one region to another, these films feature “crossbreed” of stories shot in different locations, with themes highlighting artistry and gender equality.

These films are under the roof of the program, “Crossing Regions” of the upcoming sixth installment of Cinema Rehiyon, to be hosted by Xavier University’s Xavier Center for Culture and the Arts (XCCA) on February 18-22.

Three films will be pre-

sented for the mixed program, showing at Feb 21, 7-9p.m. at Xavier University Little Theater (XULT) and on the next day at SM City Cagayan de Oro Cinema 3, 12 noon to 2:30p.m.

The nature in Philippines and Indonesia ONCE upon time, I got an email from a friend of mine who lives in Cagayan de Oro city. He said that, he had already done a social service for visiting the people around his region who had been affected by the typhoon. In his email, he stated that the people in Cagayan de Oro city, and especially those who live in the region affected seem to have been tired living in that disaster-prone nature.

Reading such an email, I directly replied and also explained to him back. I said that we are living in the same natures. Our natures are prone to disaster or calamities. I also told him that in my region, Java, Indonesia had been affected by the flood. We can see almost every region which is up to this time affected by the flood.

Yesterday, (while I’m writing this article Saturday February 15) I sent an email telling him that in Java almost all territories are affected by the explosion of Kelud Volcanno, East Java. I also attached the photo showing the condition of the air which is full of dust or sands. I said to him that, the volcano ex-

However, I closed my email by saying that I am still proud of this nature.

This disaster-prone-nature really reminds me of the God, the creator of the whole universe.

I just think positively that the dust being spread away almost throughout Java and other island, Madura island will be of good thing.

I believe that such dust in huge amount can make the soil more fertile. I believe that the impact of the dust is on the soil for better agricultural plantation in future. By thinking in that way, anything happens

caused by the volcano in my country will be of good thing rather than the merely disaster.

But, I cannot think of anything related to the flood. The flood is to some extent, due to human being attitudes, like in Indonesia.

Mostly, when we analyze the flood, the discussion will result in the root cause.

And, this root cause is about the plantation or chopping the trees irresponsibly in the forests. This is done by irresponsible people. Of course, they are the people who cut all the trees for their own sake. In that case, it is different from typhoon, tsunami, and volcano which are natural disasters.

I experienced having held an international conference in Jakarta, in January 2013. Iamure conference at that time was almost affected by the flood. We almost had no participants for some of them cancelled their participation. Finally, we had only about 50 participants because of the flood and the news covered by the mass media throughout the world: so scary.

Flood, typhoon, tsunami, and volcano explosion are different things. Flood may

be due to the human beings who are greedy or careless in caring the nature. Most of the developing countries, especially like Indonesia, tend to be careless. Caring the infrastructure is not paid attention much. The government seems pays less attention to the irrigation and forest cultivation.

It is common that the forest burned or on fire has never been investigated what causes it. In that case, human beings and the nature are not in harmony. In fact, living in the disaster-prone natures needs our good attitude towards the nature.

Typhoon, tsunami, and volcano explosions are the natural disasters. So, we cannot avoid them but think of them as something natural.

The most important thing is how to pay attention to our infrastructures and love our natures.

Philippines and Indonesia are almost similar in terms of the living things and the nature. We are living in the same nature.

Many unhappy marriages may stay together under the same roof, but they actually live separate lives.

They’re like “married singles”: he does his thing, and she goes her way. So their marriage becomes just a financial arrangement with no real love, communication, close friendship and happiness.

But until we stop blaming our wife or husband, or our outward circumstances and we ourselves change, our marriage and life won’t change either. As one wise man put it: “No clever arrangement of bad eggs ever made a good omelet.”

A good omelet can only come from good eggs. And a good, satisfying marriage can only come from two giving people who love, accept, and put the other one’s needs first before their own.

I cannot change my spouse’s personality and ways, and neither can you change yours. But if you let Jesus Christ start changing you first, then after some time your wife or husband may also want to start changing.

So why not be the first one in your marriage to say these words and really mean them from your heart: “Lord, please change my marriage into a happy, satisfying one. And start by changing me first.”

And this the Aquino government must provide, in one way or another, before the next typhoon comes. Otherwise, there will be more former Yolanda victims who will die in Tacloban, Leyte, Samar

and other Visayan towns and cities.

But on top of shelter and other physical needs, there is a greater need for the victims to be taught that there is a spiritual dimension over typhoons, rains, floods, and winds. Someone must tell them that calamities of this nature have actually been predicted in the Bible. And that, the same predictions contain information as to how to avoid the death and destruction that come from them.

AMBOANGA SIBUGAY – A chartered bus fell on its side following a near collision before dawn Saturday with another vehicle injuring at least 20 passengers in the southern Philippines, police said.

Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman, said the bus, carrying mostly teachers from Basilan province, came from Marawi City and heading to Zamboanga City when the mishap occurred on a highway in the village called Monching in Zamboanga Sibugay’s Siay town.

He said the passengers came from the regional school sports competition. The wounded, he

Surprise inspection finds irregularities in buses, passenger vans

AVAO CITY – A surprise inspection by transportation agents on terminals in the city discovered irregularities in the registration of some buses and passenger vans.

The Land Transportation Office inspection discovered two buses with different chassis engines from what were listed in official document.

The buses were Bachelor Express with number 4552 plying the Davao-Butuan route and Del Norte Fighters with number 1062 plying the Davao-Mati route.

The inspectors confiscated the buses’ numbered plates as well as the licenses of the bus drivers on violation of illegal chassis law or what they call as ‘colorum’ units.

Two other passenger vans at SM Ecoland also violated the same offense.

The inspectors also checked some old buses and noted some of these have worn out tires.

The violations would net each company a penalty of P6,000 and a warning that the next offense would lead to impounding of the vehicle.

Gonda said security has been intensified in crowded areas especially churches, malls and bus terminals.

He called on the public to be vigilant.

The city police office, Gonda added, has set in place security preparations, increased police visibility and conducted community awareness in barangays.

He said the bombing threat follows the signing of the peace pact between the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

Despite the heightened alert, Gonda said the have fielded officers to gather more intelligence about the presence of the two suspects.

The “National Guidelines for the Mandatory Representation of Indigenous Peoples in Local Legislative Councils” sets the policy for IP representation in the Sanggunians or local legislative councils.

Just like the IP-MR, FPIC was also mandated by the IPRA and that measures were being made to ensure their implementation.

Issues like these were discussed during the workshops on Feb. 15.

According to Dr. Jimmy Fong, KWF commissioner for Southern cultural communities, expected outputs in the workshops are peace pacts, position statements and resolutions concerning the use of language to forge a culture of peace.

It simply means reading the Bible, for His Word is recorded in the Bible. But then, simple reading would seem not to be enough. Another part of the Bible, which is Joshua 1:8, explains what one has to do with the Bible.

Joshua 1:8 says: “Do not forget to read the Book of the Law. Meditate on it day and night. Be careful to obey everything that is written in it.

Then you will become prosperous and victorious.”

One must take note that this would indicate that reading the Book of the Law, the Bible, has to be done every day. Then, there is a need to study and think about what one has read, day and night.

After reading and meditating on the Bible, one needs to carefully obey what one read and meditated on. When that is done, success and victory, prosperity and economic benefits will come. So, what are we waiting for?
