A sixty-five member delegation from various parishes here in Cagayan de Oro will join the “Papal Encounter with the Youth” slated on January 18, at the University of Santo Tomas. Groups converge in Oro, welcome Pope Francis CAGAYAN de Oro City--An interfaith group will converge at the Press Freedom Monument at the capitol ground today (January 15, 2014) to welcome Pope Francis. Rev. Fr. June Mark A. Yan-ez, the co-convener of the People’s Committee to Welcome the Pope, said the gathering is dubbed as “pakighiusa para sa Pagbisita sa Santo Papa niining tuig sa mga kabus.” Aside from the interfaith group, Yan-ez is expecting people from various groups that will join today’s gathering. At 3 p.m. today, a procession will start from the Press Freedom Monument, followed by a holy mass at Kiosko Kagawasan in downtown Divisoria at 4 p.m. and Solidarity Program at 5 in the afternoon. MISAMIS Oriental––Provincial Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano of Misamis Oriental on Wednesday conveyed a message of peace to Pope Francis. Pope Francis, the Vicar of Christ on Earth who led about 1.2 billion Roman Catholics around the world, is scheduled to visit the Philippines on January 15, 2015. Emano wished that the Pope’s visit would bring in peace and stability to a nation besieged with natural calamities in the past years. “The people of Misamis Oriental are proud of Pope

Francis visits to the Philippines, the only Christian country in Asia,” Emano said. He said that as governor of Misamis Oriental he wished to extend the message of the people of Misamis Oriental for the Pope’s successful visit. “Typhoon Amang, a new tropical depression, would be entering the country’s area of responsibility just as Pope Francis flies in and, we enjoined all the people of Misamis Oriental to pray together with the Pope to spare our country from destruction,” Emano said.
