Each student has mind that evolves together with time due to modernization that makes learning and at the same time, teaching, more challenging. Truly, educating students of this generation already involves complex and intelligent strategies in order to meet its needs and demands. Putting differentiated instructions in use is one basic and effective form that suits common 21st century learning environment. It is referred as a framework for effective teaching through providing students with different avenues to learning. Teachers can differentiate at least four classroom elements based on student readiness, interest, or learning profile. First element is the Content. This is about what the student needs to learn or how the student will get access to the information. Might it be through using reading materials at varying readability levels, using spelling or vocabulary lists, presenting ideas through auditory and visual means or gathering small groups to review lessons. Process is another element of differentiated instruction. In here, activities are conducted in which the student engages in order to make sense of or master the content. Best example for this is experimenta-

tion done during Science class where students participate in an activity and learn the result himself afterwards. In the experimentation as well, he learn to discuss matters with group of people having the same thinking level with him, making him more curious and more interested to know the answer. Thus, enticing learning. Differentiating products is also an effective teaching avenue next to differentiating process. Usually, it is done through culminating projects that ask the student to rehearse, apply, and extend what he or she has learned in a unit. This could be done by allowing students to work alone, participate in a small-group activity, or giving students options of how to express required learning such as writing a letter or having a puppet show. Learning environment is an important element to learning. The student learn from what he sees around him. Thus, it is important to make sure there are places in the room to work quietly and without distraction, as well as places that invite student collaboration. Learning is comprehensive. Therefore, instilling knowledge among students should not just cornered in books but should as well extend to areas where students must be exposed to.

Employing lies in the guise of social services Pope Francis flew back home to Vatican City, a sovereign state that used to be part of the municipal territory of Rome and the seat of the Roman Catholic Empire, Monday morning. The pontiff ’s five-day pastoral visit in the country left an indelible memory to the more than 70 million Roman Catholics in the Philippines. For the Roman Catholics who have the opportunity to welcome Pope Francis, it was a lifetime experience. For the millions who simply watched the Pontiff in the comfort of their televisions at home, the visit was a blessing to the Filipino people. However, the people of Tacloban, the city ravaged by Yolanda (the world’s most powerful cyclone that made a landfall in recent history), international code name: Haiyan, were more blessed. The Pope’s visit to that Central Philippine City answers the prayers of the survivors of thousands who perished when Yolanda struck the country on Nov. 8 2013. A year ago, since Yolanda left a trail of death and

destruction in Leyte and Samar, one could still hear the mourning of the widows and the orphaned there. Pope Francis heard the agony of the faithful and the voices of those who survived while dreamed of the whispers of the tormented souls. In fact, during his homily, His Holiness also expressed the pains and sufferings of the people who perished in the tragedy. But, what really made the Pope’s heart to bleed was the fate of the Yolanda survivors – most of them belonged to the marginalized sector of the poor – who still remain homeless and deprived. There is no question that

the government is doing everything to provide all the necessary support to the Yolanda survivor-victims. However, amid the hoopla of government support, the victims continue to grumble of the inadequacy of the financial and material aid. In truth, the government’s humbug about the billions of donated money for the Yolanda victims in Tacloban seems to have vanished in thin air. Before coming, Pope Francis might have heard only about the good things that the survivors of Yolanda in Tacloban have been getting from the government. His visit last Saturday opened his eyes to the reality that most of the stories that he heard ran in contrast to what he actually saw. What turns out, are reports about the millions of rotten bags of rice supposedly for the Yolanda victims, of victims without adequate shelters, of survivors unable to make both ends meet, of poverty that continue to besiege the ill-starred city of Tacloban. Indeed, the speech of

Pope Francis during a call on the President in Malacanang Friday morning, hit the nail on the head. The Pope expressed his frustration of the growing poverty in the country as the political elite continue to provide false hopes to the downtrodden and the impoverished. Although the Pope did not categorically say that the cause of poverty is an offshoot of political excesses and greed, he intimated that poverty destroys the foundation of the family. The Pontiff appeared to have indirectly equated poverty and corruption in the government as the evils that destroy the moral fibers of the society. One could vividly remember the admonition of Pope Francis about the prevalence of political decadence in a government where the elected officials thrived on lies under pretext of pursuing development and social services. AVOID BACKLASH VS. MUSLIMS

I was glued to TV’s CNN over the past few days, a far cry from my usual. I have to admit this: I sparingly watch TV these days. Why? It’s just to be free from the negativities of the day. No, it’s not about TV per se. It’s because of the content of broadcasts, reflecting life’s foibles and woes -- which is what journalism is really all about. Indeed, there are facts that are happening all around us but which I refuse to agonize over. I prefer to choose what I want to relish: the pleasant ( and there are so many out there I tell you ). I refuse be at the mercy of these sad and woeful events that are plentiful. But not over the last few days. I followed closely CNN’s running coverage of the developing episode in Paris, France that started with the massacre by alleged Al Qaeda terrorists of the editor, reporters and columnists of a news weekly magazine “CHARLIE HEBDO”, which is known for its satire, including against Islam’s Prophet Muhammad. The terrorists, after barging into the editorial offices and massacred 12 news-workers, escaped to the suburbs but they were

cornered and eventually, after 3 days of a stand-off were all killed, except for one woman suspect who is still subject of a massive manhunt. What really strikes me is the fact that out there, they get the bastards. Terrorists are eventually cornered and get to pay for their crimes. Whatever the crime or act committed, the criminals MUST be made to pay for their crimes. In some cases, the recompense is swift and quick just like this Paris incident. Other cases may take some time. But nonetheless, the crime is solved. I hate to make a comparison but I have no choice. We can’t escape this reality that here, in our own small corner of the world, this does NOT happen. Here, our criminals are not made to pay. Worse, they merrily prepare for their next crimes. I get angry just thinking about this. When improvised bombs are exploded or when someone is “salvaged”, the authorities usually come out swinging with bold angry , challenging words, only to eventually just whimper. This is not to totally blame our

And we can’t blame them too because they cannot be protected from any backlash. Three, our feeling of revulsion has been lost, if not numbed, due to the combination of the three above and the recurrence of violent incidents that have become commonplace. Well, maybe there is no basis for comparison between a crime committed in Paris and one committed here. It’s like comparing apples with “singkamas”. But seeing what happened in far-away France, we are compelled to face the reality

that we here are a long, long way off. Am I sad? Nah, not sad but a-n-g-r-y! As in! ****** BACKLASH --- The more worrisome, if you ask me, is the serious backlash the Paris incident may have on Islam as a religion and Muslims as a people. There is no doubt that the attack on CHARLIE HEBDO was provoked by the blasphemous portrayal of Prophet Muhammad by the satirical news magazine. The suspects were quoted as shouting that this was to avenge Prophet Muhammad. This is problematic obviously because those who will condemn the massacre will have the tendency to equate the terrorism to Islam and attribute this to Muslims as a whole. Of course, we know Islam and mainstream Muslims do not countenance this. But there are initial signs that the unwanted backlash is starting to happen. This must be addressed immediately: “Muslims must join in , if not dominate the chorus of condemnation.” And it will not help any if some Muslims will also justify the attack. Pawnshop-jewelry store robbed in Surigao City By Roel Catoto, MindaNews

URIGAO CITY – An undetermined number of jewelries were seized by unidentified robbers who stormed a pawnshopjewelry store in Surigao City on Saturday afternoon. Richard Merca, one of the owners of Merca’s Pawnshop and Jewelry Store located along Ma-

gallanes Street said the robbery in one of their stores happened around 1:30 p.m. when their workers opened their shop. Armed men held the workers at gunpoint and smashed the glass cases containing assorted jewelry. Merca said he has yet to estimate the worth of jewelry taken. Several store attendants nearby

effects- the destruction of ecosystem, marginalized humans, discriminates socio-cultural heritage and corrupts ethical and moral standards. Educator’s role is to guide the students to discern between potentials and prospects, the benefits opportunities and it’s the other side of information technology, its danger, threat, pitfalls. Teachers must develop sense of freedom of the students and their responsibility in making

sensibility that I have missed for the past years of teaching and trying to get my students to love Mathematics. Learning is about creating an authentic learning experience that would cover the breadth of the topics while making a relevant experience. On March 15, 2013, my students and I held our 2nd-year of Math Exhibit. I put up this exhibit to enable the students to improvise and innovate different devices that will critically help them evolve Mathematics into fun and useful

activities like making different games and strategies to divert students’ negative impressions and apprehensions toward Mathematics. This activity also helped my students gain self-confidence because they acted as curators to the games they’ve designed. They explained the game mechanics and tried to make the discussion lively. They, not only, interacted with their peers but also with the dignified personalities I invited to witness this informative affair. This activity enabled students to work hard with their group and expound on a certain mathemati-

cal concept where they modeled their game or device from. This activity is an effort to present mathematical equations in the easiest and most fun way for students. After the exhibit, some students had this realization that perhaps Mathematics is not so difficult after all. The exhibit enabled my students to realize that there are hundreds of ways to find an enjoyment in solving Mathematics equations. My colleagues described the exhibit as “the evidence of Learnings: An Application of Mostly Math and Science.”

City turns over projects consults brgy folks ZAMBOANGA CITY The city government’s support to the barangays continues with vigor regardless of distance and location. Mayor Beng Climaco last weekend motored to the east coast to turn over projects to 3 barangays as well as consult with barangay officials in a bid for the city to implement projects and programs that are in accordance with the needs of the people. Barangays Taguiti, Buenavista and Panubigan—all far flung barangays located east of the city each received a package of projects. These included farm to market roads, a 3-classroom school building and wellness center for Taguiti; fence and gate projects at the barangay hall compound for Buenavista and a barangay hall and farm-to-market roads for Panubigan. Consultations with the barangay officials followed. The turnover of projects and the consultations were done after the other. Mayor Climaco was joined by Councilors BG Guingona and

Roel Natividad and City Engineer Luis Despalo and representatives from other offices. The mayor also turned over wheelchairs to pre-selected beneficiaries. Pres ent to re ceive the projects and to join the consultations were the barangay officials in Taguiti, Buenavista led by Chairman Eugene Jumawan and Panubigan headed by chair Jacqueline Magasa. Arrabaca said that there are only two POC-accredited hospitals in Cagayan de Oro City. These are, he said, the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) and JR Borja General Hospital. In contrast, all hospitals in the city including private ones can accommodate beneficiaries of Philhealth’s regular enrollment. Also in Cagayan de Oro, only 7,000 individuals have availed of the POC program last year. In contrast, there are already around 50,000 beneficiaries of the regular Philhealth program that were sponsored by City Hall in 2014 but could not be renewed in 2015 because its annual budget was not approved. Arrabaca also said that there are a lot more benefits that Philhealth regular members are enjoying which Point of Care beneficiaries could not.

Before this Court verified joint petition for the approval and registration of the Divorce filed by the petitioners and alleging among others. That petitioners are husband and wife respectively in a marriage performed under Civil rites on July 27, 2002 at Kibawe, Bukidnon, they converted to Islam faith, of which conversions to Islam were duly registered with this court, both of them can be served with summons and other legal processes relative to this case at their residents at Purok 1, West Kibawe Bukidnon and San Pedro Dumingag, Zamboanga, Del Sur respectively; That said marriage did not last long due to lack of love and affection until the relationship manifested incompatibility and sustained misunderstanding between petitioners and reached the point irreconcilability and they separated for almost five (5) years already,since 2009, they decided to separate live physically in bed and board, thereby, executed Memorandum of Agreement in order to formalized their separation. Since their separation, they had never been communicating or supporting either financially or emotionally to each other, neither minding each other,neither minding each other affair’s; Petitioner’s seek judicial decree of divorce, thereby, severing their marriage bond on July 27, 2002, so that they will have free hand to do what a single man or woman could do without marital burdens. Reconciliation between them had already been diligently employed but all proved futile. WHEREFORE, finding this petition to be sufficient in form and substance, set the initial hearing of this case on February 20, 2015 at 9:00 a.m at which time, date and place. Any interested party may appear and show why the petition should not be granted. Let copy of this Order be published in a news paper of General Circulation in the City of Iligan once a week for three (3) consecutive weeks at the expense of the petitioners. SO ORDERED. ZAMIZ CITY -– The Ozamiz City Government has sets the 4th week of the month, to receive applications for new or renewal of permits of all types of businesses. “We are reserving the period Jan. 27-31, 2015, for those businesses, which were not able to

file their applications, during the previous weeks, according to the calendar we have set as guide for them,” mayor Reynaldo O. Parojinog, Sr., said. He said the calendar was set to give the businessmen a friendly atmosphere and guide them when to come, thereby, giving them the ease to go about their applications for new/renewal of business permits for the year.

Meanwhile, he said the following schedule has been set in receiving the application for business permits: First week, Jan. 5-10, manufacturers, wholesalers/retailers, dealers, distributors, gasoline stations, hard wares, franchise car dealers and telecommunication/internet café. Second week, Jan. 12-17, contractors, independent contractors service establishments, repair

shops, barber shops, beauty salons, hospitals, medical and dental clinics, manpower and recruitment agencies, travel/ shipping and security agencies, schools, banks, pawnshops, micro financing, insurance companies, courier and messengerial services and delivery and forwarding services. Third week, Jan. 19-24, hotels, motels, apartments, pen-

sion houses, boarding houses, dormitories, restaurants, catering services, canteens, eateries, carenderias, real estate leasers, dealers and developers, exporters, millers, wholesalers, retailers and contract growers. BOC cuts empty container dwell time to 90 days The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has shortened the period within which it allows empty foreign containers to stay in the country without having to pay duties and taxes. Under Customs Administrative Order (CAO) No. 01-2015, signed by Customs Commissioner John Phillip Sevilla on Jan 5 and approved by Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima, the period for reexporting of empty containers has now been cut to 90 days from 150 days. The new measure is apparently part of government measures to help decongest Manila ports, which some cargo owners have allegedly used as virtual warehouses. The order repeals CAO 2-97, which governs the 150day dwell time of foreign containers. Patrick Ronas, president of the Association of International Shipping Lines, said the new policy "should not be a problem as long as terminals are able to accept our empties for positioning out of the country." Under CAO 01-2015, an empty container re-exported on or before April 30, regardless of when it arrived in the Philippines, will not be subject to any duties or taxes previously mandated by CAO 2-97. However, containers arriving as empty from January 30 until April 30 should be re-exported by July 29. Likewise, containers stuffed with imported cargoes, which were returned to the shipping line at any time from January 30 to April 30, as evidenced by the Equipment Interchange Receipt (EIR) issued by the carrier and signed by the party receiving and/or delivering the containers, should also be re-exported by July 29. Form May 1 onwards,

empty containers arriving in the country should be re-exported within 90 days from date of last discharge. Likewise, containers with imported cargoes shall be re-exported by 90 days after their return to the shipping line, based on the EIR. Moreover, from May 1 onwards, any container which has not been re-exported within 90 days from its date of last discharge (for containers that arrived as empty), or from the date of its return to the shipping line (for containers which arrived stuffed with cargo), as evidenced under the EIR, will be subject to duties and taxes. Containers that will not be re-exported on the said deadlines will be treated as imports, thus, their owners will have the obligation to file import entries and pay duties and taxes. For containers that should be re-exported by April 30 but were not, import entries must be filed no later than August 28, and payment of duties and taxes should be made 15 days after the filing of entry. ave you ever experienced this? Too much work, but time is limited. Too many tasks, but you’re only one. Too many deadlines and you’re feeling overwhelmed. If this is your feeling today, THIS BLOG IS FOR YOU! PLAN & ORGANIZE This is what I normally do before going to sleep. I already plan ahead of time and organize the things that I am going to do for month, week, and the day. I need to know what are my goals and objectives before I go to work. You may be busy, but if you don’t hang on the marks, you still miss the goal. Next thing is to do is to… BREAK IT DOWN Know what is the URGENT and IMPORTANT. URGENT things are things you need to do immediately or you will have consequences. Like trying to defuse a bomb before it explodes or people will get hurt. Paying your utilities like cell phone bills or your line will be cut. In my case, writing this article is urgent or else you have nothing to read today. IMPORTANT things are valuable to you on the long term, but not necessarily on the short term. Exercising or dieting, it is important for you to look and feel good. Aside from the looks, health is wealth. In my case, writing my next book is important because my followers are expecting a new book from me this year. After I segregate the urgent and the important then I do the

… FIRST HOUR RULE I devote the first hour of the day to do my URGENT tasks which I am going to explain later. I do not take calls or answer emails that may concern others, especially if it is not part of URGENT & IMPORTANT of my agenda for the day. Calls or emails maybe URGENT & IMPORTANT to others, but maybe not to you. You maybe bugged down in fulfilling the needs of others, but it does not directly benefit you. Do you understand what I mean? FINISH YOUR URGENT TASK FOR THE FIRST HOUR OF THE DAY. Have you ever felt that you need to finish the URGENT task so you want to get this over with? So there is a tendency that you’ve been working for it for 2 to 3 hours but nothing seems to be happening. The more you feel stressed realizing that the person who will help you to fulfill the task is not available; worst never returns your call and text. So you’re stuck with the task the whole day. What I usually do is I set a timer in front of me and set it for an hour, then I start working on the given time. If nothing happens, I move on to the important matters of the day which may not be urgent but is important. I personally set aside a specific amount of time to also work on the important things and once the time is up, then I go back to the urgent and unfinished task for the first hour. REMINDER: Important things are for long-term; never expect that you are going to finish it during the day. A proud son of Ltc Robert B Macandili (INF) PA and SJO4 Haidee G Macandili of the BJMP, a loving brother to two younger siblings, and a God-fearing man; he epitomizes a responsible Filipino citizen worthy of this award. The most anticipated movies of 2015

IT’s already the middle of January and I have seen four movies already. Wait, it’s just two but I’ve downloaded American Sniper and Before I Go to Sleep already. That means I’ve already watched Muslim Magnum .357 and Taken 3 already. However, both movies failed my expectations. Let’s lay out the first one first. Having watched Jorge Estregan fare well consistently in MMFF (Asiong Salonga, El Presidente), I had very high expectations for Muslim Magnum .357. If Jorge can pull off period movies, then it’ll surely be a walk in the park for him

in a contemporary one. But no, Jorge disappointed. The melee scenes were choreographed lazy ones. Never have I seen knife fights so insulting to the audience. At least, they had the boldness to film and showcase to the whole nation the beautiful scenery of Lanao del Sur with no less than Lake Lanao as the backdrop. That’s the only redeeming factor in the movie. For Taken 3, someone in the movie audience at Gaisano kept reacting that Liam Neeson has grown too old and could not savor shepherding action scenes any longer. Yes Liam indeed looks old in Taken 3.

The theme park’s major attractions include a 2,500 square meter (sq.m.) water combo wave pool; 1,000 sq.m.
