DAVAO City––A major coalition of NGOs in the country will be mobilizing its networks to strengthen coordination among agencies in times of disasters. “It has become a necessity for us development organizations to mainstream disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) and climate change adaptation (CCA) in our interventions,” said Andrea Maria Patricia Sarenas, Caucus of Development NGO Networks (CODE-NGO) chairperson,
in a press conference on Thursday. She named the long list of disasters that have struck the country since 2006 (from typhoons to earthquakes) and emphasized that DRRM and CCA are a key emerging concern, as defined by their 2013-2017 strategic plan. To address the effects caused by the increasing intensity and frequency of these disasters, which Sarenas attributed to climate change, CODE-NGO See MOBILIZE, page A11
