Realtors cry foul over ‘bogus’ sales agents

OFWs top Duterte administration’s priority list MANILA (Filipino Times in Dubai): Beside seeking to hold bilateral talks with Chinese government, the Duterte administration has vowed to prioritize looking after the welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), lawyer Perfecto Yasay Jr. has said.

Yasay was chosen by incoming President Rodrigo Duterte to head the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), reported GMA News.

On foreign policy of the Duterte administration,

Yasay reportedly said the government will follow the provision of the Constitution.

“Alam mo ang foreign policy natin Igan, nakadefine yan sa Constitution, sa Saligang Batas at hindi tayo puwedeng mag-deviate dyan,” Yasay said in an interview with GMA’s Arnold Clavio for “Unang Hirit.”

SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur -- Communist leaders expressed optimism that the election into the presidency of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte with an overwhelming mass-based support would bring about opportunities for the people’s demand and aspiration in Mindanao.

Ka Oris, spokesman of National Democratic FrontMindanao said in a press statement that the overwhelming almost 70 percent of votes for Duterte in Mindanao showed the people’s displeasure on the military’s anti-insurgency drive dubbed as “Oplan Bayanihan” as well as the deceptive “Daang Matuwid” of the Aquino administration.

Col. Rolando Bautista held a closed door meeting with Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 Director Manuel Gaerlan to discuss the security measures while Duterte stays in the city before the official oath-

taking in Malacañan on June 30.

Bautista is currently the commander of the 104th Brigade based in Basilan.

He said the security measures will be presented to Duterte first for adjustment.

He also pointed out the implementation of the security measures is important considering that Duterte will be the next highest leader of the country.

Bautista said the PSG follows protocol for the president although Duterte is k now n to many as

“hands-on” on his safety as he despises security tailing him every time he is out of the house.

Bautista said he expects changes but what is important is “we have to secure the President.” He is also aware that Duterte visits rebel areas and this is part of their adjustment.

Asked if Duterte needs to adjust with the protocols of the PSG, Bautista said they should be the one who should adjust, as long as the security of the President is not at stake. (PNA)

Residents flee as military, NPA fight anew in Misor MISAMIS Oriental––About 100 people have evacuated to safer ground as fighting rages in the hinterlands of Salay, a coastal town east of Misamis Oriental since Tuesday.

The military has not issued an official statement,

but the local government, however, reported two army soldiers and an unidentified rebel of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed.

Francisco Dy, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO), said that

the provincial government has readied relief goods for the displaced families.

“Our relief team that includes doctors and medical workers have been dispatched to Salay to assist the evacuees,” Dy said.

He said that each family

would be provided two food packs and a hygiene kit.

The fighting between the government troopers and the NPA rebels took place in the hinterland village of Bunal in Salay on Tuesday.

Until Wednesday, the running gun battle con-

tinues prompting village residents, mostly farmers, to evacuate to safer grounds in the town proper of Salay for fear of being caught in the crossfire, the local government reported.

Dy said that the PDRRMO is concerned on the health of the children and the villagers who have been reportedly affected by the “traumatic” experience.

Last Friday, I read that some supporters of presumptive President Duterte have returned excess cam-

paign contributions to donors. My immediate reaction: That one I can believe.

With the INC endorsement for Marcos in a closely fought VP race, conventional wisdom pointed to a win by Bongbong over Leni. However, the quick and unofficial count showed otherwise.

Whatever the official and final count turns out to be, the reluctant candidate fought a very good fight.

Unlike in the presidential race, I had a clear idea, right from the start, whom to support when it came to VP. Leni came to the scene like a breath of fresh air. No taint whatsoever of a trapo.

Moreover, she definitely benifitted from her late husband’s legacy of good governance.

Why not Bongbong?

I don’t really have any problems with Bongbong.

One can not blame the son for the the sins of the father.

In his own right, Bongbong can stand on his record as a governor, a congressman and a senator. He is also very simpatico. Most important, I admire the independence he showed during the Corona lynch mob hearings.

My only problem is that I can only vote for one candidate for the position of Vice President.

It is believed that candidate’s responses are true indication of how the candidate will behave and perform in future work-related situations. It is important to assess whether the candidate demonstrates traits that fit the workplace culture. BEI question solicit real-life experiential responses that promote a way to evaluate skills, knowledge and behaviors versus philosophical views.

Behavior Event Interview can be done through this process: 1. Warm-up –putting the applicant at ease and make him/her feel welcomed. Explain to him/her how the

whole process be done.

2. Task preference-Compatibility Match questions help evaluate whether a candidate’s task preferences are compatible with the pace, people, task and problemsolving requirements of the open position.

3. Function- Specific Competency questions help focus and understand whether a candidate’s current knowledge, skills and education meet the technical requirements of the open position.

Because of this, everyone is challenged to bring out unity in the workplaces most specifically the Human Resource Manager whose main goal is to connect the distinct minds of multiple employees for the attainment of the common goal of the organization-success at work.

Basically, the Human Resource Manager possesses one of the most challenging tasks since dealing with individuals who have different views and outlooks in life requires a great deal of competence, commitment and compassion. A lot of pitfalls may bar the road towards work fulfillment but when managed properly, there would be better communication, harmonious human relations and admirable congenial work culture in the organization.

Workforce diversity has both positive and negative effects. In here, the Human

Resource Manager has a credible role of casting the negative effects to positive ones. Fortunately, workforce with greater diversity has greater innovation and creativity, greater range of prospective and greater chances of generating high quality solutions to existing problems. Focus on learning – promising strategies in school management

THERE is no single program or new practice that can transform lowperforming schools into effective schools. Divisions and districts must help public schools, both elementary and secondary, choose and sustain a coherent improvement strategy appropriate to each school by focusing on the need to improve classroom instruction and aligning all other schools operations with that focus. To support these improvements, DepEd needs to implement district-wide policies to create a safe environment for learning, help prepare young children to be ready for school, prepare teachers to carry out high-quality instruction, offer student challenging course work, extend learning time for

students who do not meet challenging standards and share current research on effective school improvement models.

Using a schoolwide instructional focus to meet students’ needs means the following: practices in all classrooms that support the instructional focus, classroom setups that support the instructional focus, consistent materials, coherent schedule with few interruptions, resources used strategically to support the instructional focus, all school personnel engaged in instruction, cluster meetings focused on teaching and learning and alignment of school vision with instructional focus. Teachers here must likewise be exemplars of good work.

Goals in a reading camp

CAMPERS rotate through learning centers spending 30 minutes in each center on reading comprehension, creative writing, reading strategies, phonics/encoding/decoding, pleasure reading and sight words. Working with certified teachers and trained assistants, the campers receive one-on-one and small group instructions that identify deficiencies and build their literacy skills in a failure-free setting. Volunteers work to improve and expand literacy instruction at camp.

Reading camp learning centers are based on core content from the existing K-12 curriculum.

That’s because emerging research demonstrates what intuition tells us – c o n s c i e nt i o u s n e s s , self control and ability to process before acting are all predictors of

success, both academic and economic. Reading camp facilitators who are teachers themselves create a safe space for learning and growing where children are coached to verbalize their feelings, think before acting, calm themselves when frustrated or angry and assign themselves consequences for negative behaviors.

The methods are nonpunitive, allowing campers to take part in their learning, process their emotions in healthy ways and practice new ways of communicating.

Reading camps offer summer learning opportunities geared specifically for the needs of struggling elementary school students. Importantly, the program model incorporates self confidence building activities with the literacy learning process, helping campers develop a love of reading and learning.

Discovering the power of reading

Most importantly, they develop relationships with adults and teen mentors that teach them trust and discipline and increase

their self-esteem. Reading camps nourish the mind, body and soul, developing children holistically.

Students in these reading camps are usually below basic level and struggle with content knowledge and reasoning, effective verbal and written communication skills and making connections within or between content areas.

Typically, they are the children who will most benefit from remedial tutoring in the summer to build their skills and get a necessary boost before the next school year begins.

Reading camps advance skill levels by encouraging exciting interdisciplinary groups, connecting students to the world around them and developing a love of discovery and learning.

Participants from various schools and organizations in Cagayan de Oro and Bukidnon came to enrich their awareness and understanding of the Philippines’ Hispanic heritage and to attain a level of linguistic competence (A1B1) in the Spanish language.

Fernando Zapico of the Consejeria de Educación de la Embajada de España en Filipinas gave a detailed lecture on Actividades y Estrategias Comunicativas (Activities and Communication Strategies) and Lengua y Cultura Española en el Mundo (Spanish Language and Culture in the World), and gave the participants some classroom projects to work on.

Spanish was, in SY 19501951, a subject included in the last two years of high school but was later removed.

In higher education, it was compulsory, as a language requirement consisting of twelve units, which in 1957, was increased to 24 units. In later years, it was reduced to 18, then to twelve units, until in 1987, it became optional.

Historical and cultural nuances Language training is considered an imperative not just in the national capital but also in the provinces, particularly in Mindanao. At Xavier, Spanish, in particular, is not just an elective course but a requisite for several programs, such as AB History and AB International Studies.

Simon Vergara Gutierrez, an American Field Service (AFS) exchange student from Colombia shared interesting stories, personalities and festivals from his home country.

During his talk, the 16-year-old foreign student, related similarities between Colombia and the Philippines in terms of climate, culture, values, and religion, among other facets.

Spain colonized Colombia in 1525 until 1819 when Simón Bolivar’s movement defeated the Spanish forces at Boyaca.

Likewise, the Philippines was a colony of Spain until 1898. Spanish influence on Filipino culture, especially in national and local languages and traditions, persists to this day.

Spanish is the primary language of more than 20 countries worldwide.

It is estimated that the combined number of Spanish speakers is between 470 and 500 million. It is also the second most natively spoken language in the world and in international communication.
