Eagles NMR-1, Rotary Club CDO support Special Games 2017 C

AGAYAN DE ORO CITY - The Fraternal Order of Eagles (Philippine Eagles) NMR1 and Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro provided snacks to 438 athletes in the whole-day Cagayan de Oro Division Special Games held last Monday at Misamis Oriental Integrated Sports Complex here.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles (Philippine Eagles) NMR1 were led by Governor Anjun Gomez while the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro was led by president Antonio Fernandez.

The athletes came from 18 public

elementary and six secondary schools participated during the event. There were also participants from the private sector.

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro has once again shepherded 29 junior high students from various secondary schools here to act as mayor, vice mayor, councillors and department heads with their real life counterparts.

For one week starting September 25, the junior high students busied themselves immersing in the various functions of the local government unit (LGU).

Prior to the event, these students attended

the New Generation forum at Philtown Hotel with the topic on human trafficking.

Loyal Honda owners gathered from 12:00 noon to enjoy a day of fun activities that celebrated their unity and the joy of owning a Honda. Activities

included a PGM-Fi Awareness talk, miniraffles, awarding ceremonies and more.

According to Honda Philippines president Daiki Mihara, the Riders Convention shows that Honda continually develops and expands its roster of technology and design while uniting Filipinos despite their different ways of life.

This also aims to make riders feel that every

journey with their Honda motorcycles is as fun as arriving at a destination.

“We make sure that your motorcycles are equipped with Honda Smart Technology and that when you ride a Honda, for any reason you might have, every twist of the throttle will put a smile on your face,” Mihara told the crowd.

“We recognize that each and every one of us has different lifestyles. But we all need to go places,

we all need the joy of mobility.”

Honda Philippines also showed its appreciation and strengthened its relationship with the riders through a series of fun activities that rewarded plenty of participants with exclusive Honda freebies.

Honda also awarded clubs with the farthest and biggest delegations while the most stunning lady rider of the day was recognized in the Honda Babe segment. Lucky participants took home

prizes through the miniraffle. Everyone was treated to dinner and live band entertainment.

Riders were also given a chance to see Honda’s latest innovations through the launching of three new models that are furnished with advanced designs and technology. These models suit every need, lifestyle and taste of each rider and ensure that they are able to excite and conquer the various road conditions. These models are the automatic – BeAT, Click and

Phoenix officers, employees, partners join international coastal cleanup day Volunteers and organizations collected trash along rivers, beaches, and waterways around the country last September 16 for the International Coastal Cleanup Day. Phoenix Philippines Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, joined in the initiative by conducting coastal cleanup activities in different Phoenix depots across the country.

Approximately 1,800

Phoenix officers and employees, members of the Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine Coastal Guard Auxiliary, the Philippine Navy, the City Environment and Resources Office (CENRO), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, local coastal barangays, NGOs, and students from Phoenix adopted schools participated in the activities.

This resulted to a collection of 1,200

SM foundation distributes hygiene kits to Marawi evacuees In an effort to help people who are affected in the Marawi crisis, SM Foundation Inc. (SMFI) distributes personal care packages to the evacuees.

A total of 2,200 families received the hygiene kits from SM Foundation, Inc. during the distribution in Barangays Balo-I, Pantar, Tangcal, Maigo, Tubod and Sultan Naga Dimaporo in Lanao del Norte.

Aside from the hygiene kits, SM Foundation also distributed 1,800

mosquito nets to the affected families.

Living by its motto “People Helping People,” SM Foundation activates its charity campaign, Operation Tulong Express, which aims to answer the call of those

who have been affected by the crisis.

Recently, SM Foundation, Inc. also donated personal care packages and radios to the brave soldiers who were injured during the battle in Marawi City.

I remember the time, when one of my first Japanese friends kept on complaining, why I didn’t operate a cellphone. Believe me, during that time, sometime in 2000 or 2001, I was even typing my articles on an old typewriter from Germany.

My Japanese friend then bought me a computer - and a cellphone! Some other friends congratulated me: “Welcome back to the world!”

Last Sunday, I really got mad. Attending mass, I observed a family (father, mother, boy and girl) keeping on using their cellphones during almost the whole ongoing mass. Heaven forbid! Even, while falling inline receiving the holy communion, the father kept on texting and browsing in Facebook. Step by step. Just in front of me! Heaven forbid! Guys, why are you still attending mass? Later on, the children kept on playing video games... .

Sometimes, I observed (business-)people operating with two or even more cellphones at the same time. Even while taking lunch in a restaurant. I asked them: “How did you survive doing business before without these units?”

Believe me or not. The answers have been mostly: I really don’t know!

Doing business nowadays without a cellphone? Even in very private life? Many people can’t imagine it anymore. I can! Though Philippines’ cellphone companies really provide us with the widest distribution and the broadest coverage to very affordable charges.

I really enjoy, for example, the unlimited call experience - just to mention one. But, not at any time!

Two handsets or even three. Ok lang, as long

it keeps my business Have My Say running. Again, I am not available 24/7! I am sorry, I am not!

But then it happened! I thought I have lost my cellphone.

I got panic lossing all my important connections. This Klaus Doring “thing” really got a special meaning for me. And here we are: not only for business. Just even for a short “Hi - kumusta ka?” I really felt lonely!

A couple of hours later, I found IT. Misplaced somewhere in the bathroom under a towel in silent mood. Four miscalls (yipee!), several text messages. Not only “Hi - kumusta ka?” A special evening meeting had to be confirmed... .I only got one big problem. I need a translator, if the words of text messages indeed go weird.

Allow me to quote Philippine Star columnist Igan D’Bayan, who wrote a couple of years ago: “We don’t speak like Hamlet any more. Most of us speak Taglish and write in Filipinzed English. And while holding a mobile phone, we type ‘2b or not 2b’. And that’s supposition!”

Btw (‘by the way’), during night time, I turn off my cellphone. How about you? The Xavier Stage respects the sanctity of marriage in “A Respectable Wedding”

ours after they had tied the knot, a newlywed couple struggled to smoothen the strings of their juvenile marriage after an unanticipated turn of events had entangled their expectations with undesirable revelations.

Bertolt Brecht’s “A Respectable Wedding” is The Xavier Stage’s (TXS) most recent adaptation for the theater organization’s Aspects of Love series.

But shredding the tenacious criticism off this adaptation about the German playwright’s original short play against the prevalent bourgeois lifestyle in his era, the 45-minuterun production had incorporated locally pressing issues in its dialogues and scenes – a relatable event that cordially invited the audience to constant laughter and occasional squeals.

During its gala performance on Friday (September 22, 2017), a night after its premiere, TXS’ front of house staff in Filipiñana fashion ushered the audience into the Little Theater. When the lights shone onstage, Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again” resonated as the lights began to shine over the setting.

Appearing first was Greg, a waiter (played

by Senior Highschool STEM student Hian Lao) and Sonia, a waitress (Education major Queenie Roluma) as they set up a table in preparation for the wedding’s reception.

But before the guests arrived, Bea, the bride (International Studies student Kissie Fudolin) had repeatedly screamed after knowing that the venue of their reception was changed by the unexpected directive of a former governor who happened to be a close acquaintance of her mother (portrayed by Xavier Ateneo formator Faith Silmonet). Despite the efforts of Justin, the groom (Paolo Zulueta), to soothe her, she remained apprehensive, fearing the ruin of their wedding by the unpleasant services and amenities of the hotel.

Within an old dilapidated suite, the play took place, revolving

around the characters who argued about the value of marriage and its unavoidable misfortunes.

The pairs’ affairs Although the groom’s father (Xavier Ateneo alumnus Tat Soriano) was proud of the newlywed’s commitment to seal their relationship with their vows, the framed floral paintings hanging over the makeshift walls and potted plants that comprised the central backdrop and filled the corners of the stage had hinted the transience of feelings. Flowers may bloom and plants may grow, but without perpetual nurture, they’d decay. As a confession in a dialogue with Bea’s mother, the marriage of Justin’s father did not end well after a legal separation from his wife. Resembling her singlehood, Bea’s mother had been a widow years before the matriarch met Justin’s father.

But feelings could be the foundation of a stable marriage just as Tetchie, the maid-ofhonor (Psychology major Camille Magnanao) and Tony, the groom’s man (Xavier Ateneo alumnus Andrew Begafria) excitedly announced their engagement in the suite, with the hope to console with the bride’s frustration and anxiety and to remind Bea and Justin about what made them decide to tie the knot before the appearance of the venue had tangled their heartstrings.

The gradual crumbling of the suite’s furniture, Bea’s distaste of the menu, and the nuisance of her mother’s analytic recollection about her paternal parentage (doubting whether the governor had planted the seed instead), all amounted to the impossibility of a fairy tale ceremony just as Bea – more than Justin – had wholeheartedly wished for. But the symbolical representation of the characters grouped in pairs, denoted a realistic and contemporary reflection of a married couple.

To put into context, Bea’s mother and Justin’s father depicted a spouse’s attraction towards another individual who takes no part in the bounds of marriage, xavier/PAGE 6

The spirit of communal unity and cooperation is present in the people of Brgy. Maluko, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon on their first Eco-Market Day, an environment-friendly activity initiated by Hedcor. As a result, thousands of recyclables are collected and put to good use.

Nurturing green community by collecting 2000-kg wastes on AboitizPower’s Eco-Market Day The backyards of the residents in Brgy. Maluko, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon became spacious after sacking and turning over heaps of recyclable wastes to Hedcor, a subsidiary of AboitizPower, on the first Eco-Market Day in Bukidnon held recently.

Nearly 2000 kilograms (kgs) recyclable wastes were collected in one day and converted to cash through a partnership with a local junk shop. Hedcor Bukidnon received 50 kgs of iron scraps, 140 kgs of plastics, 260 kgs of cartons and papers, 275 kgs of empty plastic bottles, and 948 kgs of glass bottles.

The recyclable wastes collected indicates that this was the first time for the community to experience a convenient transportation of wastes to a junk shop due to the long distance that residents of the said community have to travel, from Bukidnon to Cagayan, just to

trade their recyclables.

This is the first time we experienced this kind of activity, and this activity from Hedcor is beneficial for us. This will lessen our wastes and we can gain money as well,” said Corazon Tocmohan, a resident.

As part of the activity, Hedcor Bukidnon conducted also an Information Education Campaign regarding RA 9003 or the “Solid Ecological Waste Management Act” to the residents, focusing on the

mandatory segregation of solid wastes from households.

“Thanks to the assistance from Hedcor, our implementation of the RA 9003 has been reinforced. Our people will be ready to turn over their recyclables in times of activities like Eco-Market Day,” said Ma. Gorretti Salise, Brgy. Captain.

Hedcor’s Eco-Market Day aims to promote environmental awareness by encouraging residents of host communities to properly segregate their wastes and collect those that can be reused or recycled.

Brgy. Maluko, Manolo Fortich is one of the host communities of Hedcor Bukidnon’s 68.8-MW Manolo Fortich Hydro Project.

Flaunting the charm of a leading man, Paolo Zulueta could have been a patient groom who tended an obsessive bride in his previous life. Upon his entrance in a silver suit and trousers onstage, his poised demeanor complemented his occasional gesticulated hilarity that ignited sighs – and suppressed squeals – from most of the females in the

audience. If it weren’t for the paleness of his complexion – due in part to the lights and his thick foundation – Zulueta could have passed as Ejay Falcon at a glance.

As a result of their performance, smiles were displayed on the faces of the audience as they exited the theater after the fourth wall was lifted. Many praised the show for its constant comic relief – a different take from the trademark suspense that TXS adaptations are notable for. Some related its message in real-life situation.

“I believe in marriage,” declared Xavier Ateneo VP for Mission and Ministry Irene Guitarte.

“The play reflected society, and it is true that it is usually the bride’s desire to experience a perfect wedding, but while watching [the play], I was telling myself that it is the agreement made between husband and wife that matters most.”

It has always been the aim for TXS to promote theater as a venue for learning. In his closing remarks, Savior noted, “We hope that we will really continue to develop the culture of arts here.

We hope to reach to a point where you will no longer be required to watch the shows; instead, you will watch them by

your choice.”

In relation to reality, Savior challenged the audience with the question, “Which is really more important to you: the wedding or the marriage?”

“These choices in life will give you a better view of making yourself better individuals,” he added.

In Brecht’s short play, the right choices to make in unanticipated circumstances will earn the individual more respect than one sulking over the hindrances towards the fulfilment of a shallow desire. A wedding may occur only once in a couple’s lifetime, but the commitment to marriage is a lifetime decision. *** “A Respectable Wedding” premiered on September 21, 2017, and continues a week-long run with matinee and gala shows until September 30, 2017.

Last September 27, IPC executives led by President Hajime Koso, together with Isuzu Motors Ltd. In an era where technology needs to benefit nature, Isuzu developed Blue Power: an eco-friendly diesel engine designed to promote green technology.

The Blue Technology on Isuzu engines— which will be present on all vehicles in the Isuzu lineup—is said to provide maximum engine output, cleaner emissions, superb fuel economy, as well as engine durability.

The 4JJ1-TCX engine found on the D-MAX and mu-X is said to provide 177 PS and a

maximum torque of 380 Nm. The engine is also designed to comply with EURO 4 standards.
