hey say best friends are made over a glass of wine, and so far it seems to be working just fine as evidenced by the recent success of Aperitivo Italiano 2017 held 08 September at Seda Centrio.

According to Lorens Ziller, Executive Director of the Camara di Commercio Italiana nelle Fillipine, Inc. (Italian Chamber of Commerce

in the Philippines, Inc. or ICCPI), the Aperitivo originated in ancient Rome where it was called gustatio and consisted of appetizers, usually

accompanied by mulsum, a high-alcoholic and flavored wine.

“The gustatio was intended to stimulate the appetite, before a sumptuous banquet.

During these gatherings business is being discussed, strategic relationships are fostered, and new friends are made. All to bring people from different cultures

and businesses closer,” Lorens explained.

“We used our experience gathered in previous years with similar Aperitivo events in Makati and recently at Seda BGC where VIPs, foreign and Filipino entrepreneurs, members of various chambers of commerce, government agencies and diplomatic staff gather

for memorable evenings with a sumptuous buffet of unlimited Italian food enjoyed with Italian wines,” he added.

Most of the visitors to Guam come to shop at its wide range of shops, boutiques and malls offering prices you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere but there’s definitely more to Guam than shops and the military bases that made it headline news a few weeks back.

One of those is the Valley of the Latte Adventure Park at Talafofo which celebrates Guam’s rich heritage for visitors of all ages.

“We showcase our island at the Valley of the Latte Adventure Park every day, but some days we are lucky to be able to reach out to all at different locations around the island.”

ost of the visitors to Guam come to shop at its wide range of shops, boutiques and malls offering prices you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere but there’s definitely more to Guam than shops and the military bases that made it headline news a few weeks back.

DOST Hybrid Electric Road Train coming to serve Commuters of General Santos City The 40-meter long Hybrid Electric Road Train developed by Filipino engineers from Department of Science and Technology Metals Industry Research and Development Center (DOST-MIRDC) is expecting to hit the highways of General Santos City this October after its trial run in Cebu City last February 2017.

The train consists of 5 interlinked airconditioned coaches can hold up to 240 passengers per trip and is expected to provide technological solutions to urban transport concerns like traffic congestion of which General Santos City is currently facing.

It is mainly designed for roads and not for rails thus the Hybrid Electric Road Train (HERT) only run a maximum speed of 50kph.

DOST regional office, thru its Regional Director Dr. Zenaida Hadji Raof Laidan, further extends support and commitment in the implementation of the road project in the region as the office ties up with GenSan LGU and DOST MIRDC. “As part of the preparation of its implementation in General Santos City, DOST MIRDC is conducted series of

route-assessment and ocular inspection to ensure viability of using the road train in main roads of the city” said Dr. Laidan.

Based on the initial route assessment survey, the HERT will initially start at Barangay Katangawan then it will pass through Lagao Public Market, national highway and city’s circumferential road going to Gensan Fish Port.

“Aside from serving mass number of daily commuters around the city, the Hybrid Electric Road Train (ERT) also advocates a greener-use of technology as it is powered by electric batteries instead of solely diesel fuel thus creating lesser carbon emission,” She added.

This road train project is being deployed for trial runs to ensure that it meets the standards prior to its complete rollout to urban cities.

The field testing of HERT in the road of General Santos City may ease the burden of daily commuters if the city will adopt the technology upon the completion of the trial run. DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña agrees to donate the HERT if it is viable and effective to decongest main roads of GenSan.

“The Adventure River Cruise is a component part of the larger experience we brand as the “Valley of the Latte Adventure Park,” said Managing Director David Tydingco during a briefing he conducted for our group prior to our cruise and introduced us the crew who would accompany us on this adventure.

“The Valley of the Latte offers a number of

ways to enjoy the area, including Adventure Kayaking and Stand Up Paddle Boarding in addition to the Adventure River Cruise.

We also have a mini hiking tour through the Latte site that will take you to our pineapple and banana plantation.”

Not to mention fire starting, basket weaving, and the mouth-watering fiesta plate of barbecue spareribs, chicken, potatoes, Daigo Salad, and Rice!

Riverboat captain and guide Andy Fairfield is Coast Guard certified as well as his crew. He does not only have an intimate knowledge of the topography, history and environment of the Valley of the Latte but also has his humorous spiels pat down to perfection, and should give stand up comics at Downtown Tumon a run for the their money.

After the safety briefing where to find and use the life jackets, paddles, and kayaks in the boat in case of emergency, we were off!

The river was chocolate brown as a result of the previous days rains but Capt. Andy told us it is usually clearer and offers a clearer view of the cat fish as they swam alongside while the crew threw the bread crumbs.

The River Cruise brought us past fruit plantations, where we saw land crabs come out of their holes in the mud to feed on bread crumbs scattered by the crew, baby deer, monitor lizards, coconut crabs, friendly water buffalo, and more of the island’s indigenous flora and

We were also accompanied on the tour

by Vlogger Keith “Keef ” Dueñas Manglona and Brazilian guide Rose Busbee who startled me by giving three Japanese tourists touring with us a running interpretation of Capt. Andy’s spiels in impeccable Nihoggo, until she told me later her mother was Japanese. Ah, so desu!

“We are constantly looking at ways to improve the visitor experience by creating a variety of options for people to choose from in order to enjoy the natural beauty of this part of our island,” David added.

Our group of travel photographers, writers and bloggers from the Visayas and Mindanao in the Philippines thoroughly enjoyed the tour which wound through the Talofofo and Ugum Rivers, with a stopover at the home of the Ulitao, the seafaring group of Chamoru (or Chamorros, Guam’s indigenous people) which seeks to restore the seafaring ways and culture of their ancestors.

A European dilemma?

Somehow, I really felt touched while listening. In his State of the Union speech, European Commission President Juncker has praised the bloc for “bouncing back” after 10 years of crises. He has outlined bold proposals for the Eurozone, trade and migration. Is it too late?

Well, the Commission Chief has ruled out Turkish EU membership “in the foreseeable future.” No wonder.

Then, Juncker has called on European states to help improve the “scandalous” conditions in Libyan migrant centers to prevent people fleeing Africa to Italy by way of the Mediterranean. Longtime overdue!

Next, there were warm words for Balkan candidate countries. Sure.

Also, the future EU tax policy should be approved by a majority of member states, rather than the existing unanimity requirement, Juncker said. Is there really a chance for this. I doubt!

Of course, many Europeans call Juncker’s speech as ‘Wind back in Europe’s sails’. Of course, in my opinion, last year, European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker had little to cheer about in his flagship address before the European Parliament. If anything, it was a call to stop the collapse of the EU. Now, a year on from Brexit and with European economies on the upswing, Wednesday’s State of the Union speech struck a far more optimistic note, as Juncker praised the bloc’s achievements over the last 12 months and laid out his vision for its future.

“After 10 years of crises, economies are on the rise and the European Union is bouncing back” he said. “The wind is back in Europe’s sails, it now has a window of opportunity.” Oh yes - so very true!

On strengthening Europe’s trade program, Juncker said that, “Europe has always been an attractive partner to trade with, and now countries from all over the world are knocking on our door.”

Juncker cited the bloc’s Have My Say recent trade agreements with Canada and Japan, and called on a speedy conclusion to ongoing talks with Mexico and the South American trading bloc, Mercosur. Juncker also said talks should also begin with Australia and New Zealand.

However, the proposal will likely be met with tepid reactions in Germany/ Berlin, which has largely dismissed reform calls for the common currency.

Political process on federalism must be impartial—PIDS Zamboanga City – As debates on federalism intensify, state think tank Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) cautions advocates and critics alike to have a careful deliberation before deciding on this major agenda.

“While federalism will eventually be a political process, it should first be anchored on a nonpar tisan, objective, and scientific study to achieve its goals and desired outcomes,” said PIDS Vice President Marife Ballesteros, who represented President Gilber to Llanto during the recently concluded 3rd Mindanao Policy Research Forum held in Zamboanga City.

Ballesteros expressed the need for the Philippine government to design its own decentralized form of government.

“We (can) learn lessons from other federal systems but we cannot just copy from them. The design has to be creative,

contextual, and uniquely Filipino,” she urged.

Meanwhile, Secretar y Datu Abul Hj. Khayr Alonto of the Mindanao Development Authority recommended the immediate adoption of federalism to resolve conflict in Mindanao.

“Having witnessed and endured the turbulent years of strife in Mindanao along with my fellow brothers and sisters, I have come to realize that the only way to permanently put the regime of fragmentation and violence in Mindanao to rest is to pursue initiatives that will transcend beyond any affiliation or interest,” he said.

In his closing remarks, Alonto said Mindanaoans favor federalism over decentralization because “anything delegated can be withdrawn but anything shared cannot be dismantled."

“Mindanao is ready for federalism and we

can do it, we will do it,” Alonto declared.

The MinDA chief also said that the shift to federalism will be a great oppor tunity to highlight the Bangsamoro agenda.

“As chairman of MinDA and as a Bangsamoro, I can assure you that we are not going to stop until we get ever yone on board in this under taking. Ever y person, ever y voice, ever y opinion merits of great impor tance in establishing a state that values unity and empathy over divisiveness and indifference,” Alonto explained.

It was my first time to do a mall show on a Monday!”

“But even then, our Vivo friends were so impressed because even if it was a Monday we managed to bring an SRO crowd to the mall.

I am so thankful to my fellow Kagay-anons for supporting us, their fellow Kagay-anons despite the time and date.”

TJ performed last July 31 at Centrio Mall in a Vivo-sponsored solo gig and again last Sept. 15 when he serenaded candidates for the Ms. Silka Northern Mindanao beauty pageant.

TJ was born on December 30, 1989 in Davao City and is the eldest son of Wild FM Station Manager Tito and Weng Monterde. He has a younger sister Roxinne, who was a Ms. Cagayan de Oro candidate and is also pursuing a similar career in music.

So far, things have been coming up roses for TJ’s music career.

“I’m still focused on the music. My new album is out and I’m working on new songs for my followup album next year so am still working on the music. My previous album is doing really good. We’ve so far only released one song as a single and it’s been doing good on Spotify, and I’m so far the only artist with six songs on the Top 20 in the Billboard.

I wasn’t really expecting all the songs to do well, I thought after the single that was it, but the other songs have also been doing well and I’m so thankful for it.”

For the week ending August 28 (which incidentally is the Feast Day of the Patron Saint of Cagayan de Oro, St. Augustine of Hippo), the Billboard charts show six of TJ’s original compositions as sung by the artist himself in the top 20: Tulad Mo (@#3, 12 weeks on the chart); Dating Tayo (No. 4/12); Ikaw at Ako; (No. 9/8); Ikaw at Ako Pa Rin (feat.

KZ Tandingan) (No. 12/4); Imahinasyon (No. 19/1); and Mahika (No. 17/1).

Since the start of this year, TJ has been making sweet music with KZ Tandingan, a fellow artist and Mindanaoan from Digos City, whom he met after an X Factor session , by co-grand finalist Kedebon Colim and Martin Nievera, who was their coach.

The relationship seems to have inspired both parties in the relationship, as TJ admits KZ has become his inspiration to write new material, and vice versa.

At the center of the village is the traditional Chamoru hut built years ago by Ulitao founder Ron Acfalle, and restored when the Ulitao moved in to make the Valley of the Latte their permanent home just last July. Visitors can observe how the house sits on the latte stones which have become an icon of the Chamoru and Guam.

“Here you can experience storytelling, fire-making demonstrations, coconut leaf/basket weaving exhibitions, and canoe building sessions,” explained Miguet Maguadog, a mestisu from Long Beach, California, who with Jordan, welcomed us at the village dock with the traditional kulu shell horn. “You can also visit the surrounding caves, where you’ll learn about and latte stones.”

Besides the adventure tours, Valley of the Latte Adventure Park has also positioned itself as the ‘Perfect Destination’ for weddings, birthdays, retreats, getaways, and other special occasions and events.

“The Valley provides a backdrop that is filled with beauty, culture, and an air of magic that cannot be found any where else on Guam.”

And that’s not all: with its Back-to-School Summer Program, the company has given back to the community by bringing kids from elementary schools all over Guam to the Valley of the Latte Adventure Park.

David said the event gives the island community an opportunity to come down and experience the area, visit the ancient Chamorro latte site, and take a cruise on the Talofofo River.

“It has to be good enough for our people, for us to be able to share it with the rest of the world,” he said.

If local residents can appreciate it, then it’s something the island can be proud to show to tourists, he added.

There also will be local Guam products sold at the site, as well as farmers and artists showcasing their goods.

They merely went to the said oflice and signed a dociiment but he had no idea it was a marriage contract because both of them knew that he was still legally married to his first wife. Amelia Paliguin Calos. Even the said judge knew of that fact.

(sic) The absence of consent freely given before the solemnizing officer, the absence of a valid marriage license, and the absence of a marriage ceremony before the solemnizing officer and their personal declaration as husband and wife in the presence of not less than two (2) witnesses of legal ages coupled with the legal impediment of a prior valid marriage of The petitioner at the time of the said marriage, which are essential and formal requisites, respectively renders marriage void ab initio under Article 4 of the Family Code of the Philippines.

PRAYER WHEREFORE, premises considered, it is most respectfully prayed of the Honorable Court that after hearing, judgment be rendered declaring the marriage of petitioner and respondent VOID AB INITIO. Other relief and remedies consistent with justice and equity are likewise prayed for.
