Mr. Cayabyab, who is fondly known as “Mr. C” to his friends and admirers, said the 1st Akapela Open aims to promote contemporary a capella singing and the appreciation for vocal harmony performance. “We want to provide a venue for new arrangements of Philippine and international contemporary vocal music as well as provide growth experiences for singers and arrangers. In this way, we can cultivate a community of contemporary a cappella singers.” The 1st Akapela Open has four levels of competition including the uploading of videos, live auditions, semi-finals and the finals on October 30 at the Meralco Theatre in Manila. The contest is open to a cappella singing ensembles whose members are aged eighteen (18) years old and above with a minimum of three (3) to a maximum of twelve (12) singers.
