Last September 6, the MKA Fundamentals in Culinary Arts Batch 17 held a dinner-concertfor-a-cause dubbed “Senses: A Taste of Kumbira” for the benefit of their friend Joan Ysabelle Tolentino at Lantaw Cagayan in Upper Carmen.

Xavier University Ateneo Diplomatic Corps, a UNESCO-accredited student organization in the Philippines, received two recognitions during the 2016 International Assembly of Youth held at Cebu Normal University from September 20 to 23.

ADC bagged the 2016 Outstanding UNESCO Club Award for its consolidated efforts from the previous

administration (SY 20152016) up to the present.

The award is given annually to ten best performing member clubs of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. ADC ranked sixth in the overall ranking, the only awardee from Region 10 and one of the two UNESCO clubs from Mindanao.

In addition, UNESCO conferred a “Certificate of Good Standing” to ADC for continuously initiating student-led activities in consonance with the ideals and principles of the said UN agency.

Playing for Change is a multimedia music project, created by the American producer and sound engineer Mark Johnson with his Timeless Media Group, that seeks to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music.

Playing For Change was born in 2002 as a shared vision between co-founders, Mark Johnson, Raan Williams and Whitney Kroenke, to hit the streets of America with a mobile recording studio and cameras in search of inspiration and the heartbeat of the people. Producers Johnson and Enzo Buono traveled around the world to places including New

Orleans, Barcelona, South Africa, India, Nepal, the Middle East and Ireland.

Using mobile recording equipment, the duo recorded local musicians performing the same song, interpreted in their own

style. Among the artists participating or openly involved in the project are Vusi Mahlasela, Louis Mhlanga, Clarence Bekker, David Guido Pietroni, Tal Ben Ari (Tula), Bono, Keb' Mo', David Broza, Manu

Chao, Grandpa Elliott, Keith Richards, Toots Hibbert from Toots & the Maytals, Taj Mahal and Stephen Marley. This resulted in the award-winning documentary A Cinematic Discovery of Street Musicians.

Syria’s armed forces have called on civilians in Aleppo to flee rebel-held areas ahead of a ground offensive. The country has witnessed an escalation of violence in the wake of a nationwide “cessation of hostilities.”

The Russian-backed Syrian army launched dozens of airstrikes yesterday Friday on rebel-held areas of the northwestern city of Aleppo in preparation for a ground offensive, state media and several news agencies reported on Friday, citing military officials.

Numerous reports emerged of damage to emergency service facilities and underground shelters, leading many residents of the embattled city to hide in their homes, unable to flee.

In 2015, Russia launched a military campaign in Syria to bolster Assad’s rule. But the conflict is raging

with no end in sight.

“With respect to the air or artillery strikes, they may continue for some time depending on the field situation and the terrorists’ losses,” a Syrian military source told Reuters news agency.

“Like any military operation, it starts with preparatory airstrikes and artillery, and then the ground forces work according to the results of the strikes and their impact,” the source added.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitor that uses a nationwide network of informants, reported by early evening at least 40 airstrikes. The White Helmets rescue agency reported that at least 93 people had been killed during Friday’s barrage.

The Syrian army on Thursday announced “the start of its operations in the eastern districts of Aleppo,” warning civilians to stay clear of “the headquarters and positions of the armed terrorist gangs.” The regime in Damascus regularly uses the term “terrorist” to describe all those fighting against the

rule of President Bashar al-Assad.

The escalation of violence in Syria comes in the wake of a nationwide ceasefire brokered by the US and Russia that collapsed earlier this week. US State Secretary John Kerry called on Moscow and Damascus to halt aerial raids in a bid to salvage the “cessation of hostilities.” However, the Observatory reported apparent Russian aircraft taking part in airstrikes on Aleppo, Syria’s second city.

RCWEST CDO joint meeting and SKYHYDRANT-BWSA (Bayanga Water System Association) Organizational Set -UP The Rotary Club of West Cagayan de Oro held it’s first out of town meeting last Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 in Baranggay Bayanga, Cagayan de Oro City.

The Club, headed by Pres.

Erna Maagad, conducted the meeting in Brgy. Bayanga, Cagayan de Oro City to give its members first hand information re the status of their Skyhydrant Ultra Water filtration project.

21 supportive members attended, in spite of their busy schedules.

Except for the community organizing and capability building component of the project, its basic infrastructure is already complete. The skyhydrant unit is capable of producing 12,000 liters of safe and potable water per day in 8 hours operation.

The initial water analysis by an independent laboratory shows that the raw water, before processing failed in 2 aspects only, while the processed water by the unit

passed all the requirements for safe drinking water.

This water filtration project is a joint project by the RC Club of West Cagayan de Oro, Balay Mindanao Foundation Inc. Disaster Aid International, RC Endeavor Hills of Australia, the Bayanga Local government unit and the Bayanga Water System Association.

Water and Sanitation is one of the major areas of focus of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation, who is partially funding the infrastructures required in the set up of this project.

“As much as possible, we want to avoid the tedious process of litigation and just settle the controversy outside the courts for speedy resolution for the benefit of the company’s workers. However, since Marcos did not cooperate, we do not have other recourse but to file a case in court,” said Cuisia.

Marcos posted a cash bond to obtain his provisional liberty on January 26, 2009. However, he jumped bail after his arraignment on
