The Philippines’ leading airline, Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB), and its wholly owned subsidiary Cebgo, generated a net income of P7.1 billion from January to September 2016, equating to a 99.6% increase from the P3.6 billion earned in the same period last year.

The Cebu Pacific Air group’s 9M 2016 revenues surged to P46.7 billion, a growth of 10.5% year-on-year.

Passenger revenues climbed by 10.1% to P35.4 billion, after CEB carried over 14 million passengers for the first nine months of 2016.

Cargo revenues also went up by 2.5% to P2.5 billion.

Similarly, ancillary revenues soared by 14.9% to P8.8 billion consequent to the 6% growth in passenger traffic and 8.4% increase in average ancillary revenue per passenger. Improved online bookings, together with a wider range of ancillary revenue products and services, contributed to the increase.

“Our current

numbers testify to the ever growing market we cater to. We are affirmative that CEB’s network will only continue expanding from here on out. CEB Group’s 9M 2016 net income grows twofold

The Supreme Court has decided last Tuesday to bury former President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani despite his notoriety as a dictator and violator of human rights in the span of the nation’s Martial Law which he had declared and reigned.

The decision was not unanimous as there were five who voted against it among the tribunal’s 15 justices.

Nine of them, however, based this decision on legal claims. Among them was the proposed fact of Marcos’ service in the military prior to his political career and his being a war veteran, a role which supports his supposed heroism in tune with the qualifications for a hero’s burial in LNMB. Marcos could never know of this decision as he had already departed 27 years ago, but this burial may mark him, among the likes of Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio who had advocated for the country’s independence, as a nation’s hero.

To consider him a hero amidst contradictory views and critical controversies may have to extend from the dictates of the law to his deeds committed to the country and its citizens based on historical records.

While Rizal wrote to expose corruption and oppression by Spanish authorities, and Andres Bonifacio cried for revolution in his battles against Spanish soldiers, on September 21, 1972, in the while that independence had f lourished in the Philippines after years of colonial rule, Ferdinand Marcos Sr., a Filipino like Rizal and Bonifacio, declared Martial Law. Although this was declared to combat the alleged communist threat and insurgency, this proclamation retained him and his family in power for nearly a decade and stole the freedom which the nation’s past heroes had fought for with their lives.

What was supposed

to be every Filipino’s right had been stolen from the 70,000 that were imprisoned, 34,000 tortured, and 3, 240 murdered in his regime.

Although millions had marched on EDSA to oust him, the large count of victims in his authoritarian rule gave enough evidence (not to mention cases of his family’s illgotten wealth from the country) to question his heroism.

In most tales and epics, whether fictional or historical, heroes were those who willingly sacrificed their lives and well-being to save the people they were meant to serve and protect. As a soldier, one should realize the value of a civilian’s life.

Wasn’t Marcos, a war veteran which his family and his cronies claim, supposed to uphold this value when thousands had suffered in his regime for exercising their right to free speech and expression? Since he has long passed away now, shouldn’t his family apologize on his behalf?

As this was ruled by the Supreme Court, it may provide the justice which Marcos’ family has been seeking for his remains to be honored.

And while triumph has been achieved by the millions who bloodlessly battled against the tyranny of his regime 30 years ago when he was ousted from power, justice has still not been given to the thousands who had suffered during Martial Law. What of those who had been murdered?

Industry-wise, the administrative and support services reported 56,115 cases, more than four times the 13,078 cases in 2011.

Back pain, the most common type of occupational disease affecting workers in 2011 and 2013 counted for 35.5% (30,374) and 31.6% (54,244), respectively.

Other types of diseases had shares of more than 10% of the total cases. These included the following: essential hypertension (13.1%) and neck shoulder pain (10.2%) in 2011; and essential hypertension and peptic ulcer (11.3%

each), and neck-shoulder pain (10.6%) in 2013.

A 2006 study reported in the Phil. Journal of Allied Health Sciences found that 87.90% of jeepney drivers in Metro Manila suffered low back pain (LBP) after working for 11-15 hours. It was commonly experienced from 1-6 days over the last year. (David, JAZ, Erese, RR, Alejandrino, PMB, de Claro, MC, Agawa, RA, 2006).

Similar studies found LBP to be a common occurrence also among factory workers and nurses, and call center agents are especially at risk given their prevalence of poor posture while going about their basically sedentary duties.

Globe network investments to amplify benefits of new spectrum assets; continuously enhance mobile network

million, and for home broadband deployment with $90 million more capex.

During the conference, Genio also reiterated the need for the rationalization of permitting process for the establishments of cell sites. He revealed that Globe has a backlog of 3000 sites amid difficulties in securing permits from various local government units, homeowners associations and other government agencies. This is in light of the 4,500 sites committed by Globe to the NTC as part of a 3-year rollout plan as it acquired new telco assets from the SMC sellout.

“We need to dramatically improve cell site coverage in the Philippines,” Genio emphasized, noting that the country only has about 21,000 total cell sites compared about 55,000 in Vietnam.

According to Genio, Globe is able to put up 400 to 500 towers every year, or half of its target of 1,000 sites due to permitting challenges.

BUSECO chooses Hedcor’s renewable energy November 14-20, 2016

Bukidnon Second Electric Cooperative Inc. (BUSECO) chose AboitizPower subsidiary Hedcor to supply 5 megawatts to its franchise area in 2017.

BUSECO and Hedcor signed an energy supply agreement on Nov. 10 at the Mallberry Suites in Cagayan de Oro City. BUSECO General Manager Deiter Hoff Arellano represented the electric cooperative while Rolando Pacquiao, Hedcor VP for Operations in Mindanao, represented the power generation company.

During a speech, Arellano said that through Hedcor, BUSECO can achieve its goal to deliver adequate power to its customers using local and sustainable resources. He said that he is glad that BUSECO and Hedcor have become partners in helping develop the province of Bukidnon and its people.

“We must have a reliable partner in order for us to deliver a reliable and sustainable power supply to our customers” Arellano stressed.

At present, BUSECO serves Malaybalay City, the towns of Lantapan, Cabanglasan, Impasugong, Sumilao, Malitbog, Libona, Manolo Fortich, Baungon and Talakag, and Barangay Lilingayon of Valencia City.

The pertinent portion of the petition states, among others, as follows: ‘’xxx

4] On 6 June 2001, respondents executed on Affidavit of Adverse Claim on Transfer Certificates of Title Numbers T-6504, T-6505, T-6046, T-6047, T-10023, declared in the name of Guillermo Castrence and Pilar S. Castrence, copy of the title is attached and marked as Annexes ‘’B’’,’’C’’,’’D’’ and ‘’E’’. The adverse claim is an encumbrance on the titles under Entry No. 35254.

5] That since the adverse claim has a lifetime of only thirty (30) days, the adverse claim of the respondents has been rendered functus oficio and of no legal effect at this time. (Sec. 70, PD 1529)

6] Moreover, even the notice of lis pendens annoted as Entry 759 on the titles as a result of the case filed by respondents docketed as Civil Case No. 2002-212 for Declaration of Nullity of Sale, Reconveyance and Damages initially lodged with the Regional Trial Court Branch 24 has lost its every reason for being because the case has been dismissed with finality by the Supreme Court and corresponding Entry of Judgement issued by the 3rd Division of the Supreme Court is attached

and marked as Annex ‘’F’’’.

7] Respondents have no interest or right that seeks to be protected by the adverse claim which has no legal and factual bases, hence,invalid.

8] The continued annotation of the adverse claim is prejudicial to petitioner’s interest, and thus must be cancelled.

JASAAN, Misamis Oriental – Agutayan Reef, a protected marine sanctuary off the coast of Jasaan in Misamis Oriental, has been found to be rich with rare species of marine life, including century-old corals, a veteran diver who dipped into the highly acclaimed tourism sites in the province said.

Scuba de Oro diver Amir Elazegui had been diving in Agutayan Reef since 2005 and has seen its huge potential as haven for tourism as this would attract divers from all parts of the world.

Elazegui revealed that about 165-feet deep underwater, there is a huge mountain-like “hard corals” believed to be over 100

years old and has become santuary of rare specie of stingray known as “devil ray.”

Planktons are abundant along the Agutayan Reef as it feed on sea grasses and crustaceans.

Aside from devil rays, other species include eagle rays and white tiff reef sharks, frog fish, different kinds of sea horses like ghost pipe fish in their swarm.

Diverse marine life and unique underwater terrain will be the main attraction of Agutayan reef with its unique combination of small, medium, hard and soft tiny sand corals which come in bright colors.

Agutayan Island Reef is already a protected area by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources(DENR) with 2,400 square meters Marine Sanctuary.

According Elazegui the only problem that the flourishing marine sanctuary faces is siltation since the tiny white island also lies near the mouth of rivers.

Siltation could cover the coral reefs and endanger the marine sanctuary unless concerned agencies do something to prevent it from happening.

Last week, the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental headed by Gov. Yevgeny Vincente B. Emano inaugurated the Agutayan Jump Off Point at Brgy.
