The Ayala Malls Christmas Concert has been a much-awaited yearly spectacle and has staged different musical productions over the years, but this will be the first to highlight tap dancing.

Just as it did some time ago with Pepe’s Secret Christmas, Ayala Malls’ Christmas Mall Tour 2015 will share with lucky shoppers in

its provincial malls a literally jazzed up version of that favorite.

Inspired by the timeless jazz hits of the late Frank Sinatra,

“Frankly Speaking” will feature international tap-dance artist Omar Edwards and the STEPS Dance Project. It is headed by Steps Dance Studio and Steps Dance Project founder and director Sofia ZobelElizalde, directed by James Laforteza, and choreographed by Jeffrey Espejo, James Laforteza, Jun Saagundo, Xernan Alfonso and Omar Edwards.

In 1994, Omar earned national acclaim when he and partner Daniel B. Wooten Jr. won 13 times including the grand prize on the famed T.V. show “Star Search”.

This year’s provincial tour will swing through the Harbor Point Mall in Subic (Fri, Nov 13 @ 6pm), MarQuee Mall, Angeles City (Sat, Nov 14 @ 6pm), Centrio Mall, Cagayan De Oro City (Fri, Nov 20 @ 6pm) before winding up at the Abreeza Mall, Davao City ( Sun, Nov 22 2) 6pm.

Christened “Frozen Factory” we checked out the place within an hour of its opening last 10 October 2015, and already a sizable crowd was gathering. There’s magic in the Missy Bon Bon name!

“We wanted something new, yet again,” says Doy Yu, Missy Bon Bon president.

“Constantly innovating and introducing something new and fresh to the people is one of the best fun parts of doing business!”

Frozen Factory’s menu is replete with parfaits, sundaes and crepes, all done in a whimsical and flamboyant fashion reminiscent of its American ‘50s diner ice cream parlor vibe.

“Not only are we introducing, or rather reacquainting people with sundaes but also, letting them have a bite of something new,” said Anne Yu, MBB operations head.

“Our sundaes and desserts are chock-full of sinful treats like brownies, salted caramel, apple streusel, jellies, and marshmallows.

You name it, we have it!”

MBB has since expanded to a full dining establishment with an al fresco dining area at the

Limketkai Center.

Its expanded menu offers an extensive line of fresh breads and pastries with zero preservatives, home-style cooked meals, cakes (which a customer can fully customize), pasta, sandwiches and more.

A s ho r t pause, took a s hot of Diosdado Macapagal Bridge -is the longest bridge in Mindanao, which is 3 kilometers upstream of the old Magsaysay Bridge and provides an alternate route across the Agusan River to connect the Philippine-Japan Friendship Highway (Surigao-Agusan-Davao road) and the Butuan City-Cagayan-Iligan road. The bridge is gaining popularity as the only cable stayed bridge with steel deck and single tower in Mindanao, and it has a total length of about 10.30 kilometers.

The group is entertained by an employee of the Butuan National Museum. The museum was established after tremendous archaeological finds of collectors value was accidentally excavated.

The most significant find were the Balanghai or Butuan boats.

The balanghai is made of Magkono (Xanthostemon verdugonianus) which is considered one of the most valuable trees in the world not just because of its rarity but of its strength and tenacity.

IMPACT OF THE ACTIVITY FOR THE EMPLOYEES:

The activity has generally “sharpen the saw” of the employees in terms of the following dimensions: Physical- allows the employees to leave the pressures of the office, manage the stressors and recharge physically.

Mental- during the benchmarking, the employees were able to execute planning by visualizing the best practices observed in order to replicate in own organization.

Social- engaging the CTECs and TESDA colleagues / counterpart enhanced the relationships.

Likewise, the employees have appreciated the strong collaboration of TESDA with the LGU. Worth mentioning is the respect and support of the LGU to TESDA is extraordinary.

There is a strong collaboration of the Industry, LGU and TESDA which can be observed in the following: Strong support of LGUs in the implementation of TBCTP Engagement of TESDA Training in the Tourism Industry, ex. Workers in tourist spots are TVET graduates TESDA is involved in the peace process by capacitating the people through TVET interventions The LGUs of CARAGA Region are warmth and hospitable.

The CTECs are challenged on how to replicate these good practices in respective LGU.

Admissions, OPD up in 8 provincial hospitals November 13-20, 2015

Patient admissions increased 23 percent while out patients department increased by 61 percent in eight (8) Misamis Oriental hospitals, from the first day of the year to date, the province’s Hospital Operation and Management System (HOMS) reported , Monday.

HOMS managers said several factors contributed to the increase particularly the heightened confidence level of residents on the provincial hospital system.

“Our people now are aware that whenever they go to our eight (8) provincial hospitals they arfe assured

that one, there are doctors and trained staff to attend to them; two, there are available drugs and medicines in our pharmacies; and third, there is a zero-billing-zero-pay policy implemented

by Gov. Emano,” Dr. Bebina Casino, provincial health officer said.

Another factor

is the change of attitude towards health in general brought about by the information22,053 and education campaigns conducted by the Misamis Oriental Care System (MisOrCareS).

change of attitude among front line health workers, particularly in dealing with patients.

“They got the message of the Governor when earlier he suspended several health workers who got negative reports from our clients.

Now they are more careful and courteous,” Dr. Casino added.

The HOMS has also established a system wherein lack of much needed medicines and drugs are easily monitored.

“This allows us to respond immediately and deliver these items within the shortest possible time,” Dr. Casino said.

She said that the wide acceptance of the MisOrCareS program of Gov. Emano has made the hospital system changed its focus to the out-patient department.

“You can feel the confidence of people when they

come to our OPD, because it is for sure that they can bring home their needed medication without so much trouble,” Dr. Casino said.

From the start of the year to date, the provincial hospital of Gingoog has 5,148 admissions and 25 thousand OPD. The provincial hospital of Balingasag has 4,633 admissions and 16,550 OPD; that of Manticao has 3,094 admissions while OPD has 24,957 OPD; while the provincial hospital of Initao has 2,946 admissions and 22,053 OPD. The provincial hospital of Claveria has 3,425 admission and 19,957 OPD; while that of Alubijid has 2,099 admissions and 17,774 OPD and Magsaysay has 1,795 admissions and 16, 578 OPD. While it appears that the Magsaysay hospital has the least admissions, it registers the highest percentage of increase. (PIO/MisOr/ ninja)

Facebook - boon or ban?

I have asked this question already many times in several columns.

Right at this moment, another case from my home country Germany is in the news. “Facebook must ban abusive content” , says German Justice Minister Maas. And he is so very right. Heiko Maas wants Facebook to better enforce its community standards to rein in abusive users.

Given the recent rise in anti-migrant and xenophobic posts, he has called for a meeting with Facebook’s European managers.

In an open letter seen by German daily “Tagesspiegel,” which he links to on his Twitter account, Maas tells Facebook that “we need to talk.”

In the letter, which he sent to Facebook’s European head office in Dublin as well as to its German subsidiary, he says the social media site’s community standards needed to be more efficient and transparent.

In the wake of the recent openly xenophobic and hateful attacks on and protests at refugee camps in Germany , Maas said that the Justice Ministry had received many complaints about abusive content not being banned on Facebook.

Often, users get a message saying that the posts they reported did not violate Facebook’s community standards without giving any further explanation “even in very obvious cases,” according to Maas. Since most of us are in Facebook, I am sure, everybody got such messages after reporting something.

Maas also says this standard response had become a “farce” and that users were struggling to understand why Facebook is quick to ban nudity, for example, referring to its community standards, but often fails to ban xenophobic and racist posts.

The implementation

of its community standards, Maas says in his letter, “can apparently not be relied on, even though many posts contain comments that constitute the criminal offense of incitement to hatred.”

He reminds Facebook that it is legally obliged to delete illegal posts.

Maas emphasizes that his demands do not go against freedom of speech. “But the Internet is not a lawless space where racist abuse and illegal posts can be allowed to flourish.” He stressed that there can be no “misunderstood tolerance,” and that Facebook urgently needed to enforce its existing rules and assess whether further measures are needed.

In recent months, Germany has seen tens of thousands of refugees and migrants arrive at its borders, with many communities struggling to provide adequate care and shelter. There have been persistent protests and attacks from far-right groups, often coordinated on

sites such as Facebook.

The attacks drew widespread criticism from polticians, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel calling the incidents “despicable and shameful.”

And here we are: in response to Maas’ letter, a spokeswoman for Facebook said they were taking the justice minister’s position seriously, but did not confirm that they would meet with him. TESDA MISOR Pledges TVET Scholarship for Year of the Poor beneficiaries

The distribution was conduc ted du r i ng t he culmination of the Year of the Poor through the Archdiocese-Commission on Social Apostolate of C a g ay a n d e O r o l a s t October 7, 2015 held at the Parish of St. Augustine Cathedral.

The scholarship grant is directed towards filling up the skills gaps and job requirement of priority i ndust ries a nd sectors w it h high employ ment demand and in support o f t h e g o v e r n m e n t ’s thrust of rapid, inclusive and sustained economic growth.

T h e C e r t i f i c a t e of Commitment is valid until October 16, 2015 and the Archdiocese promised to

send qualified applicants on or before the specified date and be part in filling up the 381 slots allotted for the program.

A s p e r T E S D A Scholarship Polic y G u id e l i ne s , qu a l i f i e d for scholarship are high school graduates and at least eighteen (18) years old. Director Velez said that out of the 1.8 million OFWs, 62% of these skilled w o r k e r s a r e Te c h v o c graduates and have already landed jobs in companies in the country. Others became entrepreneurs in their own right.

He further said that T E SDA g r adu ate s a re qua lif ied and certif ied with their skills so that they can land the job fitted for them and help propel the Philippine economy.

According to Velez, work skills are important for gainful employment.

At the expense of the Petitioners, let this Order be published once a week for three (3) successive weeks in a newspaper of general circulation in Cagayan de Oro City and the Province of Misamis Oriental.

In consonance with R.A. 8552 vis-á-vis A.M. No. 02-6-02SC, the Court Social Worker is hereby directed to conduct a Home Study Report on the adopting parents and a Child Study Report on the adoptee. She is also directed to conduct counseling sessions with the adopting and biological parents.

The said report shall be submitted to this Court within SIXTY (60) days from receipt of this Order.

Petitioners are likewise ordered to have all documentary evidence pre-marked before the Branch Clerk to establish compliance with jurisdictional requirements on March 15, 2016 at 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon.

In consonance with A.M. 12-8-8-SC (Judicial Affidavit Rule) vis-à-vis OCA Circular No. 106-2012, Petitioners are hereby directed to submit their judicial affidavits at least (5) days before the initial hearing, copy furnished the Public Prosecutor and the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG).

ow in its 18th year, Cine Europa is bringing another round of groundbreaking and heartwarming films at the Rodelsa Hall, Liceo de Cagayan University from November 18-22.

This year’s “Coming of Age” theme is sure to bring the audiences back to their childhood — the time of discovering one’s self, meeting true friends, building strong relationships with families, and finding true love.

The festival will showcase 23 movies from different European countries that show their culture and traditions.

Here’s the list of the films that will truly warm many hearts:

Austria’s Rise Up! And Dance tells the story of a boy and a girl who shared their passion in ballet and break dancing.

In Faith, Love, and Whiskey (Bulgaria), a newly-engaged woman in America panics and goes back to Bulgaria where she rediscovers her wild past together with her drifter friends. Norway’s chick flick, Totally True Love, tells a story of a 9-year-old girl who fights for the affections of a new boy in her class against the prettiest in school.

Czech Republic brings Little Baby Jesus, a hilarious and popular movie that shows the miracle of Prague’s famous infant Jesus.

Belgium’s Puppy Love is about a 14-yearold girl who turned her life upside down after meeting another girl who happens to be adventurous and liberated.

Another film from Belgium, Gilles, is about a boy who dreams of

playing in his favorite football team, but faces difficulty in fulfilling his dreams when his personal coach and supporter, his father, dies.

Ovosodo from Italy tackles finding one’s place in life as it follows Piero, a shy boy from a working-class neighborhood.

An exploration of a boy and his grandfather’s relationship drives the story of 15 Years and One Day (Spain), when a troublesome teenager is sent by his mom to his grandfather, a retired soldier.
