Sure, there are many good new things about the refurbished cinemas: seats are bigger, better and more comf y, with even provisions for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the first row. Aircon is just fine, just enough to fend off the stifling summer heat without freezing your butt off and the screen is okay.

Amenities like comfort rooms for every cinema are standard and the seat layout have been upgraded to one level in keeping with the current global cinema trends.

But it’s the Atmos Dolby system which really sets the new Limketkai cinemas apart. Limketkai Marketing Development Officer Tiny Maagad actually invited us to view the new cinemas (1 & 2, that is. 3 & 4 are still undergoing renovation) as early as 24 April or a few days after they re-opened to the public but said we only got to see the facilities since she said would invite us to experience viewing a movie only when one formatted in the Atmos Dolby system was available.

T he pre v iou s one s screened during the opening were formatted in Dolby 7.1 and were already very good but she said she preferred to have us experience the real Atmos Dolby formatted films once they became available.

The Dolby Atmos system has been creating the aural equivalent of 3D in theatres around the world since June 2012. Perhaps we don’t rea lize how impor ta nt audio is to experiencing to a film until you actually experience it.

by Easy Rock 96.9 FM Station in partnership with the leading Resort Hotel in Metro Cagayan de Oro, Apple Tree Resor t and Hotel (ATRH).

Last May 24, 2015 (Sunday), beca me t he most impressive annual event of the Body Painting Competition in its history as 6 renowned artists with their own models from different places in Northern Mindanao compete with t he Brush, Sponge and Roller Category. This year’s theme adapts well into the realm of the ocean as the body painters created their exceptional makebelieve body art visions on the models as the “living canvases”. The models were painted with white paint before the beginning of the competition as artist-after-artist crafted their finest 2-hour given creations on the theme:

“Under The Sea”.

Accordingly, the event was created to take a strong presence on the promotion of body painting as a form of fine art particularly in Northern Mindanao. It prides itself to discover the interactive art of the body painting which draws the best body painting artists and models in the region.

Artist who is currently the President of the Cagayan de Oro Arts Guild, New York City’s Grant Recipient of Asian Cultural Council and Artist residency in both New York and San Francisco who had exhibits in the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Philippine Center- New York, National Museum of Singapore and National Museum of the Philippines were among the three judges of the said competition. Easy Rock top-notched Juries were highly impressed with the quality of the craftsmanship presented. “We are incredibly proud of all the masterpieces created by the contestants in combining

the talents and imaginative skills of the artists behind their living canvases.”- Mr Michael Bacol said.

Mr Clement Dampal II, the Marketing and PR Officer of ATRH who also served as one of the panel of judges said, “The level of the works created, and the impressive attention to details that bedecked the creativity of the contestants showcased the artistic merit of body painting competition. We couldn’t be more pleased with that.”

Artists and models eyes radiated with enthusiasm and audiences were thrilled to the scene as the 10-minute remaining of the time allotted was called into

stroke. In the end, both the Panel of Judges and attendees had spoken and the new winners were crowned in what was the toughest, and undeniably the finest competitions to date.

The artist who created the most newsworthy buzz for t his competition is Mr Joie Balcos with his model Ms Johneth Pabelic who def initely deser ves t he award on the remarkable caliber of imagination to this year’s contest brought to the Apple Tree Resort and Hotel’s Sand Area. Mr Emmanuel Mulawan II with sister model Ms Lady Mulawan garnered the 1st place whi le Mr Rober t Sumalinog with model Ms Tatum Tan Gaquit received the 2nd place.

On the other hand, Ms Lady Mulawan announced as the Best Female Model for this year’s competition as the overall portrayal of role with her fine-tune and compel ling body paint being presented with her grace of movement pleased the judges and even the general public. Mr Henry Tejero was also congratulated being the Best Model for the Male Category.

The event was ended with zest and pleasure as audience after audience, every artists and models, as well as the support teams behind all the presented talents discover the beauty and interactive art of the body painting t hrough this competition. Thus, a colorful under the sea weekend in review.

ootball for a Better Life, the grassroots development program run by Filipino football icon Chieffy Caligdong with British football coach Chris Thomas, finished its fourth leg in Cagayan de Oro with close to 80 teams and hundreds of young footballers converging at Bgy. Carmen’s Sports Park field for the two-day event. The teams came from Cagayan de Oro City, Marawi, Lanao del Sur, Iligan, Oroquieta, Valenica, Malaybalay, Manolo Fortich, Naawan, and El Salvador City.

The following emerged as winners in their respective categories: Higala FC in the U-9 category, Olles FC in U-11, Vilma A. Vista FC in U-13, Vilma A. Vista FC in U-15, Uptown FC in U-17, the Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental Football Ass’n. Team A in the Women’s Open, and Manolo United A FC in the Men’s Open.

Chieffy and Coach Chris organized tournaments and conducted clinics aimed at enhancing the skills of football talent and discovering young players. About 300 underprivileged boys and girls—residents of Typhoon Sendong resettlement areas and wards of the Cagayan de Orobased NGO Philippine Island Kids International Foundation Inc.—were taught drills and encouraged to play football fun

games and challenges.

Chieffy and Chris thank the young footballers, coaches and parents and Cagayan de Oro Misamis Oriental Football Ass’n. (CMOFA) President Percy Guarin for the good turnout. Chieffy said that the response marks the revival of football in CDO. “Noon ang CDO ang center ng mga football event at football festival sa Mindanao. The past few years nag-lie pero ngayon bumabalik na ulit. Excited na muli ang mga Cagayanon sa football,” (CDO used to be the center of football events and festivals in Mindanao; the sport lied low the past few years but it is making a comeback. The Cagayanons are excited about football again.”) said Chieffy. In fact, the former Azkals team captain plans to establish an academy in CDO. Another indication of the resurgence of football in CDO is the discovery of outstanding talent in the area. Chieffy and Coach Chris were thrilled to meet eight-year old Jerand Hortilano of CDO’s Higala FC whom they described as exceptional. Coach Chris said, “He moves like an experienced player. He has very good ball control and footwork. He works well under pressure and he can get out of a tight situation with ease... If Jerand were living in the UK, he would have been offered trials at the Manchester United and Liverpool Academies!”

Coach Chris hopes that with the proposed Chieffy Caligdong Football Academy in CDO, youngters like Jerand will be given further training to complement what they receive in their respective teams, schools and local football association.

Provincial Government to offer aid for El-Nino stricken MisOr areas

The Provincial Agriculture Office (PAgrO) of Misamis Oriental has identified six municipalities that are heavily affected by El Nino. The long dry spell has been damaging crops and agricultural & aquacultural products in the Municipalities of Balingasag, L agong long , Na awa n, Opol, Claveria and Jasaan, all in the province of Misamis Oriental.

Provincial Governor Yevgeny Vincente “Bambi” Emano ordered PAgrO to carry out studies and submit to him a comprehensive result on the extent of damage brought about by the El Nino and to prepare for aids to the rehabilitation of farmers in the soonest time possible.

The Provincial Government has to allocate P1,697,280 to the project Calamity Assistance for the Rehabilitation of Farms Affected by the Long Dry Spell in Misamis Oriental. The funding of the project will be taken from the 5 percent calamity fund. As soon as the Sangguniang Panlalawigan will approve the needed appropriation ordinance, the project will be

realized and implemented by PAgrO. T he proje c t i s a i me d at rehabilitating the farms damaged by the long dry spell, at contributing towards the attainment of the goals and objectives of the food security program of the province, and at improving and sustaining productivity by providing the appropriate agricultural support services to farmers in the province.

It is expected to recover the damage caused by the long dry spell, to generate jobs, to increase fertilizer application using organic

fertilizers and to prepare farmers to be resilient especially in times of calamities.

Farm Inputs “I already directed the PAgrO to start the procurement process in order to stuck up essential farm inputs to help our farmers get rehabilitated as quickly as possible,” Emano said.

Among the farm inputs, the governor wanted to stock up include certified rice and corn seeds and vegetables.

“Time is very essential. Our farmers have suffered enough. Our help should e ready when they need it as soon as the rains come,” Emano added.

Meanwhile, he said several water pumps have been distributed to farmers in the province to help them cope with the problem of watering their plants and farm animals or whatever has survived till now.

At the same time, the governor who is an agriculturist by profession ordered the agriculture office to continually monitor the farmers’ situations all throughout the Province so as to ensure that assistance is ready if need be.

its candidates and winners actively promote and get involved in the preservation of the environment and the protection of Mother Earth tying up with different agencies such as Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and two international environmental groups such as the American Global Release and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

This year marks the 15th Edition of the Miss Philippines Earth. It is the time of the year when beauties representing different regions all over the country compete with their

wits for the worthy cause of spreading environmental awareness and will dedicate their year to promote environmental projects and to address issues concerning the environment.

Meet Mitsume Aguilar, a genuine advocate of the earth with a true beauty from within. She represents Misamis Oriental being the official Earth Warrior for the Miss Philippines Earth 2015 Pageant to be held on May 31, 2015 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Mitsume, a 21 yearold graduate of Business Administration Major in marketing exudes beauty, brains, wits and her love for the preservation of Mother Nature. “We should protect, preserve, and conserve Mother Nature because Mother Nature is our life, our environment and this

can be our legacy to the future generation and the generations to come.” She said.

During her spare time, she collects and gathers plastic wrapper stuff, reusable, recyclable materials and make it into something useful. This was one of the lessons she learned from her growing years. Most often than

not, we overlooked this simple yet very kind habit.

Furthermore, she joined the Miss Philippines Earth pageant to live a legacy of change and that would be an environmental awareness.

“I support Green Architecture because I believe that progress goes hand in hand with responsibility. It is a means which I could see

to improve the current efforts to save Mother Earth because it can give efficient and effective effects to both human and nature through incorporating practical green efforts in buildings such as the use of solar power, natural lighting and other means to conserve our natural resources in everything we do starting within our space.”

Mitsume is an active advocate of Environmental Tourism and was chosen as the Guest of Honor of Apple Tree Resort and Hotel during this year’s Earth Hour Celebration.

“We chose her to represent the Earth Hour as she’s actively engaged in the environmental preservation and conservation of Mother Nature which reflects on our company’s redefined values: life, renewal, and energy

along with compassion, nurturing, and love” said Ms Bjanesha M. Emphasis (General Manager of the said Resort Hotel).

Mitsume is also into the promotion of the use of Renewable Energy, Animal Protection Rights and Coastal Clean Up Movement. She won Gold last April 28 during the Environmental Seminar and Personality Development of Miss Philippines Earth and was chosen as the number 6 Hot Picks One by the Missosology’s, the largest online magazine for beauty pageants.

To excite diners in its four properties around the country, Seda hotels recently launched its Chefs Exchange, allowing head chefs of this whollyowned and managed Ayala Land Hotels and Resorts Corp. brand to show off their specialties in other Seda locations.

From May 25 to 30, Seda BGC’s Executive Chef Romualdo Pepe Castillo will whip up international specialties at Seda Centrio for A Taste of BGC in Cagayan de Oro City.

Comprising bestsellers from Seda’s f lagship property in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig, Metro Manila, the dishes will impress by their authentic taste as well as their creative presentations inspired by the chef ’s exposure to a global audience at the newest and most modern community in the Philippines, Bonifacio Global City.
