he official blessing and inauguration of the new campus was held in the morning of May 18, 2017 at CDO-AIE. The event started with the cutting of the ceremonial ribbon officiated by the Guest of Honor, Dr. Elena M. Borcillo, CESO V, the Schools Division Superintendent of Cagayan de Oro City. Zealep Group of Companies Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Rafaelita P. Pelaez with Board Director Dr. Mariano M. Lerin, President of Liceo de Cagayan University, attended the event. The eucharistic celebration followed after. Officiating priest Rev. Fr. Julius B. Clavero of the Society of Saint John Vianney gave a homily made interesting with a story of his memories when he was a student of Mrs. Rose C. Padin in the Basic Education Division of Liceo de Cagayan University. Mrs. Padin has recently been appointed the School Principal of CDO-AIE. The G-Clef Society, the official choral group of Liceo de Cagayan University, led the singing of the mass hymns under the musical direction of Mr. Michael Jhun P. PaceĂąo. The program started after the final blessing
of the school campus. Dr. Alain Marc P. Golez, School President, opened the program. Eliza Jenn Montealto and Rafaella Clarice Somera, both incoming grade five students, presented a song number. Exceptional students Alexielle Neve Baylin, Jean-Pierre Magpily, Daniella Urciuoli, and Shantana Mariz Magpily recited the school’s Vision, Mission, Philosophy, and Core Values respectively. A dance number followed, performed by incoming high school students Jennifer Louise Balon and Moselle Faye Almajar. The program then concluded with a testimony delivered by Trina Paano, an honor student who has been studying in CDO-AIE for seven years. Matigsalug group undergoes values formation and team building Fifty members of the Matigsalug tribe attended last April 19-20 a values formation training and team building activity organized by AboitizPower subsidiary Therma South, Inc. (TSI) and Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (AFI). The activity, conducted in cooperation with
the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) XI and the Matigsalug Council of Elders Marilog District Davao City, Inc. (MACOEMADDACI), was part of the crafts livelihood project of AboitizPower for the indigenous peoples. It aims to capacitate the Matigsalug tribe members into
developing quality, culturally inspired clothing, baskets, and fashion accessories that can be sold commercially. The activity endeavors to instill values of teamwork and good work ethic in the Matigsalug trainees, as AboitizPower and DTI believe that starting the crafts program with a

he Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) was awarded with Outstanding Development Project Award under the Human Capital Development category for its Management and Leadership Development (MLD) Program. The distinction was conferred by the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP) during its 40th Annual Meeting last May 10-12, 2017 in Macao SAR, China. The MLD program aims to strengthen the Bank ’s Succession planning by ensuring the availability of a highly trained and qualified management pool. Programs under it include the Management Training Program (MTP),
Branch Officers Development Program (BODP), Lending Officers Development Program (LODP),

YAHSHUA Intelex graciously ended its Summer Music Program at XU Little Theater, last May 13, 2017 with the theme ‘’Thank YOUth’’. It was a celebration of the young aspiring musicians – unveiling their talents and skills in voice, keyboard, acoustic guitar, and violin as well as looking forward to their future’s endless possibilities. The event was graced by the management of YAHSHUA Intelex; Ptr. Ron Bayron, CEO; Dr. Ruth Bayron, VP; Mr. John Paul Cabelin, Lead Musical Instructor and Ms. Mel Cabelin, Lead Vocal Coach. The Summer Music Program has successfully unleashed the musical potentials of children as young as 4-years-old. Most, if not all, of the children overcame their stage
fright and triumphantly performed on stage. Parents took photos with a glint of pride in their eyes. YAHSHUA Intelex has designed programs to make tough disciplines; Math, Music, Arts, and Reading a little easier than traditional training. The training is based on the scientific premise that the brain is basically tissue – like muscle, it grows stronger with practice. When people learn new ways to study, the brain changes and grows. According to American author, Jodi Picoult, music is the language of the memory. Researchers have found this to be true as music will help you learn and recall information better, depending on how much you like music, or whether or not you like music.

Development Awards recognize and honor member-banks which have undertaken and/ or assisted projects that have created a development impact in their respective countries. Undue care and anxiety Life is better than ever, so, why so many people seem to be unhappy? Whenever I hear people saying that everything is bad, I thik of my late grandmother, born in 1899 (!) into a really awful world in Germany and its surroundings. The so-called “Golden Twenties” between the two World Wars have been everything but golden for her, my relatives and millions of people. “Lola” never complained, even during the sorrowful time in the former East Germany, the “German Democratic Republic”. Lola reached the ripe old age of almost 86. We hardly count our blessings. We enjoy counting our crosses. Instead of gains, we count our losses. We don’t have to do all that counting - computers do it for us. Information is easily had. Just remember this: Opportunity doesn’t just knock - it jiglles the doorknob, and “your friend” - the worrier, is with you day and night, at every corner, following your every step. Complaining and grumbling are good excuses, aren’t they? We have time and opportuntities to do almost anything. So why haven’t we done it? We have the freedom of bondage or restraint, every one of us in his or her very special way - but, we’re still our old inferior selves. The job is boring! I don’t find a good job! The house is an unpleasing mixture of tidy and dirty things. It’s a mess! I am not in the mood to arrange my garden. I can’t afford a gardener. That’s life. How sad! No, it’s not MY fault. Of course not! The whole world is an awful place filled with dreadful and horrible negativism.

Politicians, i.e., many times love to search for some grave alarm that will cause individuals Klaus Doring to abandon their separate concerns and act in concert, so that politicians can wield the baton. Calls to fatal struggles and fights are forever being surrounded. The over-bearing person, who tyrannizes the weak, the person, who wants to domineer and to bluster, is simply nothing else than a worrier, who might claim to be a friend. But he isn’t! Really not! The bullying of fellow citizens by means of dread and fright has been going on since Paleolithic times. The night wolf is eating the moon. Give me silver, and I’ll make him spit out. Well, when will we start counting our courage and not our fears, or enjoy instead our woes? Worrying itself is pointless. Of course, no society has achieved perfectly rules of law, never-ending education or unique responsible governments. CEB to suspend operations in Kuwait, Doha and Riyadh

Cebu Pacific Air (PSE: CEB) will suspend its service to and from the following destinations: · Riyadh, Saudi Arabia · Kuwait · Doha, Qatar CEB will fly the last of its four-times-a-week service from Manila to Kuwait on June 13, 2017, and its Kuwait-Manila flight on June 14, 2017. The thrice-weekly ManilaDoha-Manila route will have its last flight on July 1, 2017; while CEB’s last flight from Manila to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia will depart on July 2, 2017, while the Riyadh-Manila flight will leave on July 3, 2017. “The entry of Cebu Pacific into these markets benefitted passengers with lower fares and more choices. Of late, other carriers have aggressively added more flights, which has resulted in substantial
oversupply of seats and fares that are so low, hence making the routes unsustainable,” said Atty JR Mantaring, Vice President for Corporate Affairs of Cebu Pacific. “We have to continuously review our routes to ensure their viability. At this point, it makes more sense for us to re-deploy the aircraft used for our Riyadh, Doha and Kuwait service to routes where we can further stimulate demand and sustain our low fare offers.” CEB will retain its other long-haul services to and from Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Sydney, Australia, with a view to increasing frequencies to these destinations in the future. The airline also flies to 24 other international destinations across Asia and USA; as well as 37 domestic destinations.
Passengers affected by the suspension of CEB service in Doha, Riyadh and Kuwait are being contacted. Options are being provided to minimize the disruption, which include rebooking passengers on flights with other airlines or on earlier travel dates with CEB; a full refund; or placing the full value of the ticket in a travel fund for future use. From January to March 2017, Cebu Pacific carried 4.8 million passengers, of which 1.3 million flew international destinations. Total revenues for the first quarter of 2017 were up 4.7% to PHP16.9 Billion. However, this was outpaced by the growth in expenses, driven by a weaker Peso versus the US Dollar and rising fuel prices. CEB net income for the first three month of 2017 was down 68% versus the same period in 2016.

PPI elects new set of officers
M
arking its 53rd anniversary as the country’s premier association of newspapers, the Philippine Press Institute (PPI) elected a new board of trustees last May 23, at the opening of its two-day annual press forum in Manila. The election was held during PPI’s annual membership meeting, one of the highlights of the yearly event, held at H2O Hotel at the Manila Ocean Park. The commemorative press forum, now on its 21st year, is themed “ASEAN@50: Beyond the Headlines.” As in previous years, it bringst together representatives of PPI’s member publications, comprising mainly community newspapers and a number of national dailies. The newly elected regional trustees are Alex Rey Pal, publisher and editorin-chief of MetroPost, which is circulated in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental; and Dalmacio Grafil, publisher of Leyte Samar Daily Express, West Leyte Weekly Express, and Eastern Samar Bulletin.
Serving their second and final year as PPI trustees are Amalia Cabusao, editor-inchief of Mindanao Times; Joenald Rayos, publisher and editorin-chief of Balikas, which is circulated in Batangas; Sonia Daoas, executive director of the Cordillera News Agency; Adrian Amatong, editor-inchief of Mindanao Observer; and Allan Mediante, editor-inchief of Mindanao Daily News. Mediante was elected to take over the post vacated by Atty. Salvador Diputado as vice-chairperson of the PPI Board and who was one of the trustees for the Visayas. Diputado is now the regional executive director of the Department of Agriculture (Region VII). Cabusao and Rayos remain secretary and treasurer, respectively, of the PPI Board. Alfonso G. Pedroche, editor-inchief of Pilipino Star Ngayon, was re-elected chairperson-president of the PPI. Completing the board is PPI executive director Ariel Sebellino. Other PPI trustees come from select member
newspapers, namely, Manila Standard, Journal Group of Publications, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Malaya, and BusinessWorld. Ambassador Rosario G. Manalo is this year’s keynote speaker of the PPI annual press forum. She, along with an ethnic Karen journalist from Myanmar, will address the PPI members and guests on Thursday. Misor acquires new rescue vehicles TO boost the readiness in rescue responses of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office in Misamis Oriental, the Provincial Government purchased additional equipment and vehicles. Two rescue boats, two Multicab units and seven brand new rescue equipment worth P1.2 million were turned over to the PDRRMO on Monday, May 29, 2017, by Governor Bambi Emano during the weekly flag-raising rites at the Capitol. Vincent Dy, PDRRMO Head, said the vehicles and additional equipment will further ease their responses when calamities strike.
Meanwhile, the PDRRMO hosted Monday’s flag-raising and reported several accomplishments from January to present such as the giving technical assistance to different barangays in 23 municipalities and two cities in Misamis Oriental in preparing for the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan and the formulation of the Contingency Plan. There were also communitybased risk reduction and management plan conducted in every barangay as the fundamentals of village leaders in responding
to calamities such as landslides and earthquake incidents. Sotsot also announced its successful partnership with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) for the conduct of earthquake drills in the airport. “It was the first (drill) conducted in an airport in the entire country,” Dy said. Another unique, green feature of the development is the use of a water recycling system that aims to make building maintenance and landscape irrigation more eco-friendly and cost-effective. “Winning at the International Property Awards is an honor but receiving this prestigious recognition for the second time is a big thing”, explained Architect Romolo Valentino Nati, chairman and chief executive

apúa Institute of Technology is now called Mapúa University following the granting of university status by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). Mapúa, founded
in 1925 by the country’s first and foremost architect Tomas Mapúa, is a recognized higher education institution for engineering and technology. Its ownership was transferred to the Yuchengco Group

Price freeze in effect after Martial Law declaration in Mindanao F ollowing the declaration of Martial Law done by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in the entire island of Mindanao on 2017 May 23, price freeze on basic necessities and prime commodities is automatically enforced in Regions 9, 10, 11, 12 and in CARAGA. Pursuant to Section 6 of Philippine Republic Act 7581 (also known as the Price Act), prices of basic necessities and prime commodities should remain frozen at their prevailing prices and should be placed under price control once an area is declared under state of calamity or under an emergency situation. The implementation of price freeze lasts according to the period indicated in the declaration. In
this case, the price freeze will run for a period of 60 days unless the president lifts the declaration, the congress revokes Martial Law, or the Supreme Court pushes to null the president’s declaration. Business owners who will be found guilty of violating the Price Act shall be charged an administrative fine of five thousand pesos (Php 5,000) up to One Million Pesos (Php 1M) or 1 up to 10 years imprisonment. In line with this, five government agencies are entrusted to monitor prices in the market to ensure consumers can access goods at reasonable prices. These are the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Department of Agriculture (DA), the Department of Health (DOH), the Department of Energy
(DOE), and members of the Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC). The DTI will monitor prices of basic necessities such as bread, canned fish, coffee, salt, potable water in bottles, processed milk, instant noodles, candles, detergent, laundry soap and prime commodities such as flour, vinegar, soy sauce, processed and canned pork/ beef/poultry meat, toilet soap, basic construction materials, batteries and basic electrical supplies, and school supplies. Meanwhile, the DA will monitor prices of fresh and dried vegetable and meat goods, feeds, veterinary products, sugar and cooking oil; the DENR is delegated to monitor prices of firewood, charcoal, nipa shingles, plyboard, plywood,

and sawali; the DOE will monitor prices of household liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and kerosene while the DOH will observe
prices of drugs and medicines. All these implementing agencies enjoin business owners to comply with this
mandate. Consumers are also advised to seek lists of prevailing prices of basic necessities and prime commodities in their respective areas.
