WHEN Cagayan de Oro-based community activist Jonathan Mongcal learned about the dilapidated plights of some of the public schools in the city in 2015, he scouted for a non-government organization (NGO) in Manila to help in his efforts.

And so Mongcal stumbled upon CheckMySchool.

CheckMySchool is a participatory monitoring initiative for the education sector in the country. It aims to continuously improve the quality of education services by bringing in the participation of

citizens and communities into the governance of public schools in the Philippines. It started in 2011 as an experimental partnership project with the Department of Education (DepEd) along the advocacy for access to information and social accountability.

In just two years, CheckMySchool has implemented a lot of projects in Cagayan de Oro. They were able to hand out educational toolkits to a total of 150 first graders in Kamakawan schools/PAGE 11

An app exclusively for iOS devices only, Crossfader lets you mix tracks at just one tilt of your phone or tab.

This growing app was first developed by three programmers (American, Chinese, German) and one DJ (Filipino) in 2013 under the notion that “music should be free and must be available everywhere.”

ARKADIA Collective, a group of all female artists from Cagayan de Oro, once again mounted another exhibit in a span of two months.

Aptly titled Home, the exhibit at City Museum in Cagayan de Oro opened last Wednesday and will run until May 12.

The curatorial concept draws on memories that depict Home – be they geographical, cultural and artistic points of reference for the artists in their creative learning, living and production.

Arkadia Collective is a group of female creatives from Cagayan de Oro who have been actively promoting

and shaping the contemporary art and culture of our city. The group is composed of up and coming female artists namely Adeva Esparrago, Dana Martinez, Eppie Tamparong, Freya Luna, Arkyoo Quirante, Melissa Abuga-a, Lot Deleste, Rachel Sta. Maria, Zy Pacheco, Louise Dumas, Josie Lapiz Smith, Avril Villodres, Hazel Aspera, Libby Namoc, Ral Waminal and Lai Pimentel.

There were 50 artworks exhibited at the third level of the City Museum ranging from digitals to prints, photography and paintings (mostly in acrylic) as well as installation art.

She also challenged the families to do what they can to lessen the existence of the carbon culprit. “If we choose to change from disposable to cloth, let me tell you, the effect is big,” Un

added.

Also, in using disposable diapers, each baby contributes about 2,000 pounds of garbage that decompose for 250-500 years.

As for the rash, Un stressed that disposable diapers are so absorbent and they designed to do that, and because they are made of plastic, air could not circulate well keeping the baby in high temperature.

Hence, babies experience prolonged exposure to a hot, dirty environment and have a higher risk to get a diaper rash.

One of the latest reports on my desk states that the German government plans cyber attack ‘hackback’ ahead of the election. And, according to German media reports, Berlin wants to create conditions to be able to hit back in the event of a cyber attack. The move comes as the country gears up for September’s general election amid fears of hacking.

In the event of a cyber attack, as well as being able to defend against incursions, Germany plans to have the ability to destroy hostile servers if necessary, German daily “Süddeutsche Zeitung” and broadcasters NDR (North German Radio) and WDR (West German Radio) reported. Among experts, such measures are known as “computer network operations” or “hackback,” the reports said.

I learned that during an ongoing attack, police, military or intelligence service units would attempt to identify the assailant and block the attack or destroy the servers being used to stage the incursion.

A prerequisite for such action would be that a legal aid request is not possible and that the attack from abroad can not be stopped.

Two people were arrested in Britain last week after allegedly attempting to hack the Washington DC CCTV surveillance camera system just days before President Donald Trump’s inauguration. US media said 123 out of almost 200 cameras throughout the city were disabled by ransom ware software. Officials feared a bigger attack may have been planned for the day of Trump’s swearing in.

In government circles, for example, this would include an attack on an electricity grid or another hacking of the Bundestag - Germany’s lower house of parliament. In this case, it would also be possible to remove the servers on which stolen parliament data is located.

There is, however, and in my opinion, no current legal basis for such projects. Germany’s military, the Bundeswehr, has just installed its own cybersubcontracting force, but it is only responsible for warlike

Volker Kauder, a leading member of Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union, said in an interview that “he is not scared.” He points out that Germany, unlike the United States, does not use electronic voting machines with an internet connection. Hans-Georg Maassen, head of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Germany’s domestic intelligence agency, reports, however, that evidence of an influence on parliament has grown since Germany took a hard line on sanctions in the Ukraine conflict.

DOE Pitches Energy Opportunities to ASEAN Investors D epartment of Energy (DOE) Secretary Alfonso Cusi said Thursday that there is a big business opportunity in the Philippines’ energy sector that investors from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) can take advantage of.

“We’re inviting energy investors from ASEAN. The ASEAN summit is an opportunity for us to drum up to our neighbors that there is this development happening in the Philippines and they can participate,” Cusi said after attending the closed door quarterly roundtable of the Wallace Business Forum at Shangri-

la Hotel, Makati City.

Cusi said the potential business opportunity in energy is the result of the government’s ambitious infrastructure program dubbed “Build Build Build.”

“We’re going to build the energy supply for the infrastructure,” said Cusi.

“From 2016 to 2030, 17,300 megawatts is needed to support the Ambisyon 2040 development plan of the government for the Philippines.

An additional power of 26,000 MW from 2030 to 2040 or a total of 43,000 MW from 2016 to 2040 is needed to support the infrastructure projects,” Cusi said at the

Wide use of spectrum promotes LTE speed and coverage

Globe pours investments on LTE deployment, widest coverage in PH reports OpenSignal Globe customers are happier nowadays enjoying faster mobile internet in more places where they are.

According to the latest report from OpenSignal, a UK based company that specializes in crowdsourced mobile coverage mapping, the company scored the highest in terms of LTE availability nationwide with speeds of 7.42 Mbps. This is a marked improvement from 4Mbps in February 2016.

Globe garnered the highest score of 55.3% in the latest OpenSignal LTE Availability survey in the Philippines.

OpenSignal said that the score means their testers were able to find Globe LTE signal 55.3% of the time nationwide based on data gathered from November 1, 2016 to January 31, 2017.

Globe Senior Vice President for Program Governance, Network Technical Group Joel Agustin revealed that over 1,200 LTE 700 sites, utilizing the 700 megahertz (MHz) band and around 2,500 sites

for both the 1800 MHz and 2600 MHz bands will be deployed this year on top of existing deployments last year.

Around 70% of the company’s $750 million capex for the year has been allocated for the improvement of mobile, home broadband and corporate data.

“Our strategy to immediately use the dormant LTE spectrum from SMC is paying off. Now more Globe customers especially here in NCR are experiencing the difference of a better and more seamless mobile internet from one area to another,” Agustin said.

“We need to continue deploying more LTE sites to fulfill the evolving digital lifestyle of our customers using our mobile network,” Agustin added. Globe customers increased by 12% in 2016 while Globe data traffic reached 361 petabytes, an increase of 44% compared to 2015.

The wonders of bamboo - Ford goes further by going greener May 1-7, 2017

W

hile investment in research has led to breakthroughs in new materials like super strong carbon fiber and lightweight aluminum, nature’s wonder material may have been growing all along – at up to one meter in a day – in our own backyard.

“Bamboo is amazing,” said Janet Yin, a Materials Engineering Supervisor at Ford’s Nanjing Research & Engineering Centre. “It’s strong, flexible, totally renewable, and plentiful in China and many other parts of Asia.”

The benefits of bamboo have been recognized for more than a century – Thomas Edison even experimented with it when making the first light bulb. In building, its tensile strength (or how much it can resist being pulled apart) is well known, as it can rival or even better some types of metal. And, because it grows to full maturity

in just two to five years – compared to up to decades for other trees – bamboo also regenerates easily.

Over the past several years, Janet and her team have worked with suppliers to evaluate the viability of using bamboo in vehicle interiors and to make extra strong parts by combining it with plastic.

The team has found that bamboo performs comprehensively better than other tested synthetic and natural fibers in a range of materials tests, from tensile strength tests to impact strength tests. It’s also been heated to more than 100 degrees Celsius to ensure it maintains its integrity.

While tests on bamboo continue, Ford is already making use of sustainable and recycled materials in the company’s vehicles in Asia Pacific.

Before a sustainable or recycled material is given the green light, it needs

to meet all of Ford’s global standards. In Asia Pacific, Janet leads a team who conduct thorough testing and analysis on each material to prove that it is as good – if not better and more durable – than its original material equivalent.

One material that has made the cut and can now be found in Ford vehicles across Asia Pacific is high quality nylon fiber from carpet and garment factories.

The team uses it to make the cooling fan blade found inside the Ford Focus and Escort. By working with suppliers to tap into this excess nylon fiber (or yarn), which typically makes up around 1-3 percent of all yarn used in some factories, Ford saves over 700,000 kilometers of yarn from landfill every year in Asia Pacific – nearly enough to travel to the moon and back.

Perhaps just as surprising is that Ford uses carefully selected, durable parts from

washing machines to make air deflectors, which sit just under a vehicle’s floor and reduce air drag force and improve fuel efficiency, ultimately saving drivers money.

Recycled materials aren’t just confined to hidden parts either, thanks to Ford’s use of seat fabrics with REPREVE-branded fiber, which is made from 100 percent recycled materials, including plastic bottles. In Asia Pacific, Mondeo, Escort and Edge owners can feel especially good about what they’re sitting on.

To date, Ford's use of REPREVE seat fabric has diverted nearly 25 million plastic water bottles from landfill.

In each of these cases, the original raw material is first made into a more malleable form to allow it to transform into the end product used in Ford vehicles. Before becoming cooling fan blades and air deflectors, yarn and washing

machine parts become resin pellets, while prior to being turned into seat fabric, plastic bottles are melted into PET fiber, then PET yarn and fabric.

Because it can be hard to picture bottles in seats and yarn in fans, Janet says her role as a green advocate continues outside the lab: “When I first tell people about how we’re using sustainable and recycled materials in vehicles, they either love the idea straight away, or want to be assured that the materials are of a high quality. All the work my team does ensures they are not just great quality, but are strong and sustainable in every way.

After they understand that, they’re convinced.”

Ford’s commitment to

reduce, reuse and recycle is part of the company’s global sustainability strategy to lessen its environmental footprint while accelerating development of fuelefficient vehicle technology worldwide.

In recent years, Ford has increased its use of recycled nonmetal and bio-based materials. With cellulose fiber-reinforced console components and rice hull-filled electrical cowl brackets recently introduced, Ford’s biobased portfolio now includes eight materials in production. Other global examples are coconut-based composite materials, kenaf fiber composite for door trim inner, and soy foam seat cushions and head restraints.

In support of the government’s priority program on island interconnections, NGCP brings power-sharing between Visayas and Mindanao another step closer to implementation.

Today, NGCP submitted its Visayas-Mindanao Interconnection Project (VMIP) application to the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

The application for

Provisional Authority (PA) is the result of an NGCP-commissioned hydrographic survey conducted last September to November 2016.

The survey results determined the most viable route beginning in Cebu and terminating in Dipolog. Subsequent preparations were made to include the conceptual design, detailed costestimate, and update of

the system simulation study using the CebuDipolog route in the ERC application, while inland and route surveys for substations and overhead transmission lines were simultaneously being conducted.

“NGCP submitted to the ERC its application for the implementation of the VMIP. This comes after years of research and careful planning.

Finding the safest and most viable route for the project was a long and tedious process, given the many challenges that faced us, like unexploded ordinances, fault lines, and submarine volcanic activity. We needed to be careful and sure, as this is going to be the biggest project in the history of the Philippine power industry. And we are ngcp/PAGE 10

Labor Day job fair NGCP awaits ERC approval on VMIP to net 6,000 jobs AT least 6,849 job opportunities are offered to more than a thousand jobseekers in Northern Mindanao’s job and business fairs, simultaneous throughout the country and spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on May 1, 2017 during its 115th Labor Day celebration.

Of the confirmed job vacancies solicited, almost 2,000 will be available for local employment from 64 participating private companies and government agencies.

Top local job vacancies are call center agents (300), property consultants (100), staff nurses (45), field construction officers (40) and sales associates for Cagayan de Oro (30).

Meanwhile, DOLE 10 is expecting around 4,955 job vacancies for overseas employment from 26 accredited recruitment agencies.

Top overseas vacancies are nurses (500), service crew (400), food servers/ waiters (350), cleaners

(310) and caregivers (300).

There will also be job fairs on the following schedules: MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology (June 1 to 2); BSU Main – Malaybalay (May 11); Central Mindanao University – Musuan (May 23); Mambajao, Camiguin (May 2); and Oroquieta City Gymnasium (May 1).

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 10 director Joffrey Suyao exhorted the jobseekers, advising them to be fully prepared when they participate in the job fair.

“I invite our jobseekers to participate in the job fair and ready themselves with their proper business attire, bring multiple copies of resumes, school credentials, certificates of employment, clearances, photos, passport (for overseas applicants) and other pertinent preemployment documents needed by employers,” Suyao said.

AboitizPower 6-MW Binary Plant successfully restored May 1-7, 2017

A

boitizPower marked the presentation of its 6-MW Binary Plant at the MakilingBanahaw Geothermal Project on April 27, 2017.

The Binary Plant 1 utilizes excess heat from spent brine to generate clean and renewable energy for the Luzon Grid.

Geothermal energy comes from the heat of

the earth. It is produced by drilling holes into the earth to tap the steam—or the hot water rising to the surface of the earth—from the geothermal reservoirs.

At MakBan, the water in the reservoir that is not hot enough is fed into the Binary Plant to still generate electricity.

The Binary Plant 1 became operational in the second half of 2016 after the completion of

restoration work.

“It took us more than a year to complete the restoration, but we were able to add 6 MW installed capacity of renewable energy to our facility, utilizing heat from geothermal byproducts and idle equipment,” APRI President and COO Felino Bernardo said.

The Binary Plant 1 is one of three binary cycle power

plants in the MakBan Geothermal Project Complex. The binary cycle plants were decommissioned in 2008. Of the three, only Binary 1 was found viable for rehabilitation.

Solon rejects calls for new tax amnesty The chairman of the House committee on good government and public accountability has rejected calls for Congress to pass a new amnesty law for the benefit of corporations and individual with unpaid tax obligations in prior years.

“Strong enforcement is the best strategy to ensure full compliance with our tax laws, and the grant of amnesties every now and then is totally inconsistent with tough application,” said Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel.

A tax amnesty provides an opportunity for a specified group of taxpayers to pay a defined amount, in exchange for forgiveness of a larger tax liability, including interest and penalties, incurred in prior years without fear of criminal prosecution.

“There should be no mixed signals from government. We cannot tell everybody to dutifully pay their taxes on one hand, and tell them don’t bother to pay your taxes now because we’ll absolve you later, on the other hand,” Pimentel said.

Pimentel made the statement not long after the Bureau of Internal Revenue filed a P9.5billion tax-dodging case against homegrown cigarette manufacturer Mighty Corp.

Mighty was found using counterfeit cigarette tax stamps on its products to avoid payment of excise taxes.

The case against Mighty is consistent with robust enforcement, according to Pimentel.

In August last year, President Rodrigo Duterte warned tax

evaders that they may be next in his shame campaign.

“I hope you guys who have not been paying your taxes, especially the rich, the oligarchs, kindly settle your tax cases. I would hate to read your names in public and maybe authorize your arrest,” he said in Davao City.

Duterte lambasted big-time tax evaders for feeding on public services without paying their fair share.

“Your debts to the government have piled up and you expect me to give you security?

You expect me to [let you] use the roads, the ports, the airports and everything the government produces for the people?

Nakikihalo kayo (You’re benefiting),” he added.

Several members of Congress have filed bills proposing a new tax amnesty on all unpaid internal revenue taxes imposed by the national government in previous years.

But Pimentel warned that an amnesty would only benefit a few wealthy individuals and large corporations, at the expense of tax compliance.

He said promises or hopes of an amnesty only tend to encourage tax avoidance.

“An amnesty would certainly not benefit the millions of salaried employees whose income taxes are already being automatically withheld from their monthly paychecks,” he said.

Pimentel also said an amnesty would be “totally unfair” to those who have been religiously paying their taxes.

RMP-NMR scales up Lumad rights initiatives, partners with international organizations in another EU-funded project

T

he Rural Missionaries of the PhilippinesNorthern Mindanao Sub-Region (RMPNMR) scales up its human rights intervention for Indigenous Peoples by partnering with international humanitarian organization, Relief International (RI).

An inception meeting kicked-off the two-year project on 25 April 2017, orienting the new staff on the rigors and deliverables of the project which covers 43 communities in the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Bukidnon, and Misamis Oriental in the Philippines.

Funded under the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights, this new initiative will promote and protect human rights of vulnerable indigenous communities in the Philippines and Bangladesh. It is coordinated by RI, with RMP-NMR as its partner in the Philippines to focus on the Lumad, and the Sundarban Adibasi Munda Sangastha (SAMS) in Bangladesh

for the Munda people.

Titled ‘Promoting and Protecting Indigenous Human Rights in Bangladesh and the Philippines’, the project will specifically seek to develop the capacity of indigenous human rights defenders to promote and defend their rights through monitoring and reporting on violations and abuses, and by building awareness of communities on universal human rights, rights of indigenous peoples and government responsibility to protect, promote and respect these rights.

The project also seeks to advocate for policies in the business engagements of the private sector and government institutions vis a vis indigenous peoples’ rights. Also included in the set of activities are mini grants for indigenous rights defenders at-risk.

new generations who seem more enamored to merely listening to canned music from elsewhere through the internet and other media rather than perform it themselves.

One of these visionaries, Ms. Marinela “Girlie” Neri Velez, President of Paterno Velez Foundation & Founder of the Marinela Neri Velez Strings Program, recently donated to Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) 41 musical string instruments.

MOGCHS Principal Mr. Pedro R. Estaño received the donation in behalf of the Special Program in the Arts of the school. Amidst cheers of joy, the teachers and students expressed gratitude to their benefactress for her benevolence and generosity. In the words of Ms. Velez, “the instruments have finally found a home!”

The Marinela Neri Velez Strings Program was originally a 10 year program meant to put together a community based strings orchestra from the public and private schools of Cagayan de Oro through a local school, but when that school opted to proceed in another direction, Ms. Velez transferred the program to MOGCHS. Another of the visionaries who has long been acclaimed as a patroness of the arts is Dr. Rafaelita Pelaez, chairperson of Liceo de Cagayan University.

The Rodelsa Hall, Dr. Ochie’s (as she is fondly known to her friends) contribution to Cagayan de Oro’s tradition of music, has excellent acoustics and the 700-seat venue has been the city’s pride in hosting world renowned musicians through the years, among them her son, piano virtuoso Rudolf P. Golez.

But even beyond Rodelsa, Dr. Ochie’s vision extends to putting up a European-standard music school and conservatory for Cagayan de Oro, and as a consequence, organize a community based orchestra that would allow its students hone their craft to world standards.

That dream started to take shape when she managed to convince a world renowned composer and conductor from Germany to head the Liceo Music Conservatory last year.

Horst-Hans Bäcker was born in Romania but later honed his

craft in Germany and Austria where he studied composition. He has been commissioned to compose music for special occasions by various European cities and won first prize at the De Profundis Composers’ Competition in Cologne with his composition “From the Depths I Cry Out to You, Lord”.

Besides being a composer, Bäcker has also founded and directed various choirs and orchestras including the Salzburger Vokalensensemble chamber choir (1984, Salzburg), and Internationale Philharmonie (1996).

Not the least, Bäcker is also a renowned

conductor, completing his formation in Master Classes with Jorma Panula. He has been a regular guest conductor for the Arad Philharmonic Orchestra, Banatul Philharmonic Orchestra in Timisoara, Moldova Philharmonic Orchestra in Iasi, and Oradea, Sibiu and Craiova Philharmonic Orchestras (Romania), the Northern Hungarian Symphony Orchestra (Hungary) and for the choir and orchestra of Camerata Antiqua de Curitiba (Brazil).

The maestro hails the move to establish a community based orchestra as one of the essentials for the success of the European standard Music Conservatory in

Liceo.

“It’s important that children with an inclination for music start training as early as possible, like in pre-school, with the instrument of their choice,” he said, himself having started his piano lessons at age five with Tamas Vesmas.”Filipinos have an innate sense of melody and rhythm which puts them at an advantage when learning music.”

Ms. Velez concurs.

“Our orchestra should be open to all children regardless of their school affiliation or economic status,” she stressed. “Music should be inclusive; it should be a catalyst which binds people together through

a shared passion, instead of a barrier divides them because of family relations and social status.”

Recently, Bäcker sat down with Ms. Velez and friends to discuss how they could work together to bring their shared

dreams to fruition.

Hopefully, the dream for a European Standard Music Conservatory and Community Based Orchestra for Cagayan de Oro would come true sooner than later.

Horst-Hans Backer heads Liceo Music Conservatory T

he newly established Music Conservatory of Liceo de Cagayan University has a new directorAnd how he got here from Bonn, Germany is a story in itself.

Horst-Hans Bäcker was born in Romania where he learned to play the piano at age five. He started his musical career by studying composition from 1981 with Professor Ludwig Werner Weiand at the conservatory in Wuppertal, Germany.

He continued his studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria with Prof. Gyula Horvath (composition), with Prof.

Kurt Prestel (ensemble conducting) and Prof.

Nikolaus Harnoncourt (performance practice of early music). He completed his training in composition under Professor Jürg Baur at the Rhineland Academy of Music in Cologne, Germany (1986-1989) Since then, he has been commissioned to compose music by musicians and chamber ensembles from all over the world. In addition, he has been commissioned to compose music for special occasions by various European cities.

With his composition From the Depths I Cry Out to You, Lord Bäcker won the prize of the De Profundis Composers’ Competition in Cologne.

In 1984 Bäcker founded the Salzburger Vokalensemble chamber choir and directed it until his departure from Salzburg. Later he also founded another symphony orchestra, which eventually became the Internationale Philharmonie in 1996 with him as Principal Conductor.

Bäcker completed his formation as a conductor in Master Classes with Jorma Panula. He has been a regular guest

conductor for the Arad Philharmonic Orchestra, Banatul Philharmonic Orchestra in Timisoara, Moldova Philharmonic Orchestra in Iasi, and Oradea, Sibiu and Craiova Philharmonic Orchestras in Romania, the Northern Hungarian Symphony Orchestra in Hungary and for the choir and orchestra of Camerata Antiqua de Curitiba (Brazil).

Since 2003 Bäcker was a frequent guest conductor of Arad State Philharmonic Orchestra, the State Philharmonic Orchestra “Oltenia” in Craiova and the State Philharmonic Orchestra “Banat” in Timisoara since 2006 where he was commissioned to compose a work for Choir and Orchestra for the Celebration of 60 years as Romanian State Orchestra.

His composition Rapsodia Timisoreana included tributes to renowned Romanian Composer George Enescu and famous Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu, was enthusiastically received by the choir, the orchestra, and the audience.

Bäcker’s first CD SPANISH NIGHT features Joaquin Rodrigo’s Concertos for 1, 2 and 4 Guitars and Orchestra was critically acclaimed by the critics. So was the follow up SPANISH NIGHT II with the guitarist Dale Kavanagh, Amadeus Guitar Duo, panpipes artist Gheorghe Zamfir and the State Philharmonic Arad.

Mallorquina the CD Berühmte Opernarien – Panflöte und Orchester with soloist Gheorghe Zamfir and State Philharmonic Arad, as well as the CD ZauberPANflöte with panpipes artist Matthias Schlubeck and the State Philharmonic Transylvania were likewise well received.

Among the many solo musical artists he has worked with, Bäcker has established long-term musical partnerships with panpipes artists Gheorghe Zamfir and Matthias Schlubeck, violinists Christina

Anghelescu, Bogdan Dragus, Sophie Moser and Sebastian Casleanu, Canadian guitarist Dale Kavanagh, the GermanCanadian Amadeus Guitar Duo , Briton Eden-Stell, and pianists Katja Huhn, Ekaterina Litvintseva, Mihai Ungureanu and Tamas Vesmas.

school in Langehagen, Germany where students learned the rudiments of dance, music and playing instruments.

Later, he also set up his own private school in Bonn. Although the city had its own state music school, the waiting line for enrollees was so long that there were four private musical schools (including Bäcker’s) to take up the slack. His school had 17 teachers in all and an enrollment of 300.

In 2014 he sold the school and worked as a freelance conductor and composer before coming

over to the Philippines to explore greener pastures in 2015.

In September 2015, he met Rudolf P. Golez, dean of the Liceo de Cagayan University College of Music who invited him to conduct his Historical Informed Performance at Manila Pianos owned by Willem Van Suijdam. After a chat with Dean Golez, he also conducted a Meister Class one week later at Rodelsa Hall. Eventually, Bäcker decided by December 2015 to move to Cagayan de Oro for good. music/PAGE 10
