Empowering kids with special needs the JCI Macajalar 24K way

CI Macajalar 24K, Inc., a leading global network of young active citizens based here in Cagayan de Oro City, held Artsada 2 last June 18 at SM City Cagayan de Oro, an arts appreciation workshop dedicated to children with special needs from West City Central School. There were three disciplines that were introduced – arts and crafts making, talent showcase and fashion show. The arts and crafts making was divided into three – hand painting on bags, notepad making and paper flower making. For the latter two, the 81 kids were assisted by staff from CDO Handmade Paper Products and the children’s parents/ guardians. Project chair Nicole Cabanlet said the program aimed to have
these kids with special needs to maximize their potential capabilities and talents through arts. “Teaching and providing these special kids involving their parents create a more harmonious child-parent relationship as well as maximize their creativity and self-worth,” Cabanlet went on. “This time, we aim to strengthen the child’s primary development domains which includes physical, intellectual, empowering/PAGE 7
Xavier University among SM Supermalls celebrate the country’s 118th Independence Day Asia’s top universities On June 12, 2016, 58 SM malls nationwide united in observing the Philippines’ 118th Independence Day with a simultaneous flag-raising activity and numerous activities lined up for the occasion. In Mindanao, SM malls had a festive celebration through inspired installations and performances that were reflective of the cultural heritage of the region. At SM City Davao, the Independence Day was marked with a flag hoisting ceremony at the mall’s front covered walk along
Quimpo Boulevard. The occasion was kicked off by a parade of 118 colors. Around 250 mall tenants and mall employees attended the occasion along with more than 300 bikers from BJMP and the Habagat Bikers Group. Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan debuted in the 2016 Asian university rankings released by London-based education and career consultancy Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). XU secured a spot in the 251-300 bracket in the QS University Rankings, released on Tuesday, June 14. “I am very pleased to inform the community that Xavier University was included in the 2016 Asian university rankings released by Quacquarelli Symonds,” XU president Fr Roberto C Yap SJ said. “The QS
University Rankings Asia highlights the top 350 Asian universities.” Xavier is one of the eight Philippine universities which were included in the said list, along with the University of the Philippines (#70), Ateneo de Manila University (#99), De La Salle University (#143), University of Santo Tomas (#157), Ateneo de Davao University (#251-300), Silliman University (#251-300), and University of San Carlos (#301-350).
