agayan de Oro City and the City of Norfolk, Virginia in the United States moved forward with their sisterhood partnership with the recent visit of Sandra Choi from the Norfolk City Department of Development. During the course of her visit to the city from July 7-10, Ms. Choi met with local business leaders and toured the city and Misamis Oriental. Ms. Choi manages Norfolk’s International Trade Program as its Development Analyst for Global Markets. Ms. Choi’s visit is the first of a series of exchanges between

T was an afternoon of wholesome and spiritually enlightening fun as Elevate CDO, the youth arm of Christ’s Commission Fellowship (CCF) in Cagayan de Oro City, celebrated
its anniversary last Saturday at the church’s local headquarters in Papa Juanito Square, Agudo Road corner Florentino St., Limketkai Complex, this city. Elevate CDO was actually established
by CCF to assist high school and college students to experience a life empowered through values, excellence and leadership. Elevate CDO believes that life transformation can only be achieved through faith in God and values taught in His word. The group
The renowned Trio 3:0 of Austria will have its first concert tour to Philippines this September at the invitation and with the support of the Austrian Embassy Manila. Besides concerts in Manila and Cagayan de Oro, the group will also conduct master classes in the same venues. The Trio came together as a group in the course of six years, coming together to play in events and then going their separate ways before deciding to come together as The Trio 3:0. They first performed together in 2006 at Salzburg, Austria to celebrate Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s 250th birthday. Eva Steinschaden (violin), Detlef Mielke (piano) and Alexander Vavtar (cello) found themselves performing together for the world première of a chamber opera, Der Zauberspiegel [The Magic Mirror] by the Austrian composer Ludwig Nussbichler. Although they had never before played as a trio, the three musicians – all of whom had wide experience in all kinds of chamber music – knew each other (Salzburg is a village!), and embraced the project with
enthusiasm. The press reported: “A truly splendid conclusion to the 2006 Mozart anniversary. Certainly one of the most unpretentious and lasting contributions to the Mozart celebrations.” After this success, the three went their separate ways, and – musically speaking – lost sight of one another until 2008,

I was happy to have been invited for this year’s Style Origin’s “Good Vibes Festival” at Ayala Centrio Mall last July 2, 2016 at 6pm. For the past years, they’ve been inviting me to join the fashion show but, honestly, I just don’t see myself walking up there. I’m too shy for a fashion show. However, I enjoyed watching
the event last Saturday. It was a fun fashion show that highlighted a mix of local and international brands such as Promod, Esprit, Penguin, Giordano, fitflop, Herschel, Jockey, Mango, Sperry, Spruce, Apartment Eight to name a few. Music was great and of course I saw some familiar

Restore European Trust! Bye-bye, UK. We’re leaving ... .The secondbiggest mobile telephone company in the world is considering the possibility of moving its headquarters out of the UK following the Brexit. Should Vodafone decide to relocate, Düsseldorf in Germany could emerge as a top contender to host the head office. Vodafone already has a presence in the German city, where it employs about 5,000 people. Moreover, Germany is the company’s largest market. Restore EU trust with pragmatism, urges Germany’s Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble. And he is very right. Europe needs fast and pragmatic moves to demonstrate a strong EU to citizens stunned by the Brexit. Indeed, governments might need to override a sluggish Brussels. Schäuble, Germany’s finance minister and long-time advocate of a “deeper” EU, has urged Europe’s governments to quickly tackle and solve “several central
problems” to restore trust among its 508-million population. Also Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative ally told newspaper “Welt am Sonntag” (WamS) on last Sunday that it was not the time for visions or treaty reforms. Yes, “pragmatic” efficacy must be demonstrated by the remaining 27 governments - assuming Britain formally exited the bloc. How about a shift to inter-governmental precept? “If from the outset not all of the 27 pull their weight, then start with a few less,” Schauble commented. “And, if the [European] Commission does not act jointly, then we’ll take the matter into our hands and just solve the problems between governments.” “This inter-governmental approach proved itself during the Euro crisis,” Schäuble added, mentioning Europe’s asylum and migration policies as issues to which EU citizens wanted answers. Europe’s member
states each needed to clarify what they could do at national level, and “what we can’t do ourselves must be done at European level,” he said. Carrying on as usual was untenable amid “growing demagogy and deeper Euro skepticism,” he added. Yes, the “EU Brexit summit” closed with continued uncertainty about future. One example among many: the Greece Central Bank reports ‘brain drain’ of 427,000 young, educated Greeks since 2008. Let’s be honest, the question of whether the European Parliament should get the deciding role or not is not one that especially moves the public. I stronly agree with Schäuble, who was one of the architects of German reunification in the early 1990s. Schäuble told also that Europe’s current priority should be to prevent “wildfire” disintegration and to avoid “the usual rhetoric,” adding that dumping EU treaties was no immediate answer. “We have to stay serious,” he said, insisting that it
