HIGH FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY An Appetite for Excellence on Beauty and Art Article by CLEMENT DAMPAL II

“Have you ever captured any high fashion-themed images?” This is the question I asked myself when I turned my attention to High Fashion in order to improve my craft in Photography. I’ve been fascinated with Erich Caparas and Von Wong’s innovative and artistic works which continually redefines beauty and arts through Fashion and Editorial themes.

There is something on their images which clearly communicate an idea or an emotion. With great inspiration to the visual craft, I opted to create my own style and attempted to combine High Fashion with Travel while adding the conceptual art to Editorial Portraiture.

This may seem like an ambitious attempt on combining the ideas but as far as specialization is concerned, I am a diversified lensman.

displaying clothing and other fashion items. It’s often an incredibly experimental medium, and results in innovative and high-concept photography.” – Prakash Ghodke of Tuts Plus Photography Fashion Photography may seem like one of the world’s most sought after professions.

According to Cedar Pasori of complex. com, “At its start in 1839, it existed strictly to sell. Today, it reflects a lifestyle, an attitude, and a story comprised of the subject(s), location, styling, make-up, hair and photographer’s vision.” Fashion Photography is about the message that the image transmits.

Since the project is somewhat like an ambitious one, I opened the idea and collaborated with the CDOPP (Cagayan de Oro Photographers Photoshoot), a young and energetic group composed of dynamic, passionate and creative photographers and

artists in the region, together with one of the finest stylist in Northern MindanaoDio Dius. The Stylist in collaboration with the Creative Director are the ones who contributes greatly to the improvement of the idea. Aboitiz invests P437M in public education in 2014 July 11-17, 2015

M

ore than 60,000 students across the nation are now benefitting from the Aboitiz Group’s educationrelated initiatives last year, amounting to P437 million or about 72% of its total corporate social responsibility (CSR) budget allocation.

Of its P610 million CSR spending in 2014, 21% or P129 million was directed to health-related and other corporate donations; 5% or P30 million in enterprise development programs, and the remaining 2% or P15 million for environmental initiatives.

This has been the largest amount the Group has allocated so far, up by 26% from P483

million CSR budget in 2013.

“In our focus area of education, our goal is to achieve universal public education by continuing to establish and develop Aboitiz BetterWorld schools that promise a better learning environment,” said Aboitiz Group CEO and President Erramon Aboitiz.

In partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), the Group, led by its social development arm Aboitiz Foundation constructed of 27 classrooms in Ilocos Sur, Laguna, Albay, and Cebu for TechVoc high schools. Tthe Foundation will continue funding teachers’ training for Technical

Education Skills Development Authority’s (TESDA) NCII certification.

In 2014, the Aboitiz Group allocated budget for the construction of 185 new classrooms to help address the issue of overcrowding and lack of classrooms in public schools nationwide. In the last 26 years, it has donated more than 800 classrooms.

The Foundation reported turning over 23 regular classrooms in 9 schools in Benguet, Cebu, and Davao del Sur last year.

It also turned over 42 additional Silid Pangarap kindergarten classrooms in partnership with the Aklat , Gabay, Aruga tungo sa Pag-angat at

doesn’t have to refer what the model is wearing. Sometimes in this big ol’ fashion world, low and high are just synonyms for easy and difficult.”

The next thing I had is the casting of the models so I contacted them and proposed the ideas. Choosing a model to create a successful result is the “most essential as it is the main factor that determines the feel of the pictures, no matter where and what clothes she will be wearing”- Joaquin Barreto of DPS said.

A successful shoot is often the result of creative collaboration between the Photographers and the team thus, we created an artistic team. It will somehow involves collaboration in the best circumstance while the truth is, there are many challenges to producing this attempted project.

We chose a location in order to complement the travel theme with that of the High Fashion and Editorial Portraiture.

The first was the Sagpulon Falls in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental but because of unintentional circumstance, we opted to change it and chose Mapawa Nature Park for the Mintugsok Falls. With a short given time, our fellows from the industry went to the area to do the ocular. Another problem existed as the trail going to the place had a

landslide because of the heavy rainfall.

To realize the photoshoot project, we decided to choose the backdoor in order to reach the area. Ambitious as it seems, we experienced hillhiking, river trekking and, climbing certain steps for approximately 2 kilometers handholding and backpacking our gears.

The experience was worthwhile when we reached our destination.

The project aims to combine the afore-mentioned ideas with simplicity over compositions, and with a variety of settings and styles which is more subdued whereas

every detail of the photo may somehow add a story being told, a way of describing a strong sense of reality from artistry on the part of the subject. It is the result of creative collaboration between the photographers, creative directors, the models, and the styling team.

The truth is, there are many circumstances in producing a successful photoshoot and that we had to experience.

On the last note, my ultimate goal as a lensman is to inspire others, creating their own craftsmanship and transforming that skill into something that captures

moment and artistry.

As what the saying goes, “Never be fully satisfied with what you’ve done. It is very likely that your best photograph has not yet been captured.”

Lanao del Sur’s dream road: The shorter route to Northeastern Mindanao

M

any residents of Lanao del Sur are anticipating the completion of the on-going “Dream Road” project, a 53-kilometer road stretching from the municipalities of Molundo, Maguing, Bumbaran and Wao, Lanao del Sur, to the municipality of Maramag, Bukidnon.

This is according to the governor of the said province, Hon. Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto Adiong, Jr., who lobbied for its completion to President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino, III. As of press time, only 12 kilometers of the road is being paved. “I am hopeful that the project shall be fully completed by 2016,” Adiong said.

The Dream Road shall shorten the travel time from Marawi City, the seat of the provincial

government of Lanao del Sur, to the cities of Malaybalay and Valencia in Bukidnon from seven hours to four hours.

“Going to Davao City shall no longer be a 12-hour feat for residents of the province as travel time is lessened to more or less four hours,” said Provincial Engineer Serad Laut.

Adiong said the said road is expected to enhance business, fair trade and livelihood between Lanao del Sur and Bukidnon which are both known to be rich in agricultural lands and farms.

“Farmers and buyers shall benefit as crops can be sold and bought at cheaper prices,” he added.

I remember my parent’s irritation in their faces such as a broken mirror! Once upon a time, we have been getting crazy while listening to our idols’ sounds. In my case, sometime during the 1960s and 1970s.

I felt “satisfaction” while

listening to the Rolling Stones or danced to the Beatles. I got hectic dreams together with Pink Floyd or couldn’t hold myself with “Da-da-da_ and its then “German New Wave” which swapped to the world later on - yes, even up to the Philippines.

Today, we are the parents of the younger generation again.

Is there diplomatic space for any discussions? What’s the

music up nowadays?

Rap or house? Or something like this? Noise, din, row, racket, fuss, or damage to my (?) musical paintwork?

I remember harmonic accords with flutes and my accordion. Later myself at the piano ... .

Two generations, even three meanwhile. Let’s strike the right one - no matter which generation we belong too.

THE soon-to-release film Heneral Luna is being hyped up here in Cagayan de Oro City prior to its September 9 grand opening nationwide.

During a sneak preview of the movie last July 10 at Centrio Cinema 2 which also doubled as an inspirational talk on becoming Filipino modern day heroes, movie director Jerrold Tarog and history professor Alvin Campomanes rallied the crowd of 360 mostly high school students that they could make a difference

in ruling this country if they will so.

“General Luna’s challenge was to be a warrior in his time. We have our own challenge right here and right now – not to die for our nation but to live for it. Your country needs you more alive than dead,” Campomanes said as he tried to compare the situation between today and the turbulent time of the Philippine infancy.
