After a prolonged absence in international play, Team Philippines, represented by Northern Mindanao’s elementary baseball team rallied past Hong Kong, 8-7, to bag the bronze medal in the 50/70 category of the 2017 Asia Pacific

Regional Little League Baseball Championship (Intermediate Division) held last July 7, 2017 at Hwaseong Dream Park in Hwaseong, South Korea.

The Filipino Little Leaguers bounced back after a tough 2-12 loss to Japan in a semi-final match on July 6. The team was composed mainly of talented

ballers from Jimenez Elementary School and Misamis Occidental, and reinforced by players from Cagayan de Oro, Iligan and Bukidnon.

Shaking off jitters which allowed Hong Kong to score 6 runs in the very first inning, the Filipinos regained their bearings in time by returning the favor with 5 runs in the last two innings for the cometournament/PAGE 7

Jesuits in Mindanao coffee table wins another award from Singapore B

arely a month after it bagged a prestigious IABC Gold Quill Award of Merit in the United States, the coffee-table book Jesuits in Mindanao: The Mission, will again be receiving an award at the IABC Asian Pacific Silver Quill Awards, which will be held in Singapore on August 24, 2017.

Ramoncito O. Cruz, the president and CEO of Media Wise Communications, received the award at the IABC Gold Excellence Awards night at the Washington DC Hilton on June 13, 2017.

The IABC Gold Quill Awards are the global initiative of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) to recognize and award excellence in strategic

communication worldwide.

Cruz noted that Jesuits in Mindanao was the sole Philippine book to win at the IABC Gold Excellence Awards.

Media Wise also won a Gold Anvil Award earlier this year for One Hundred Years of Service Excellence, a commemorative coffee table book for the Philippine National Bank at the 52nd Anvil Awards held last March in Makati City.

Ramoncito Ocampo Cruz began his first eight years of education at Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan in 1959 (Grade School, 1967). He moved to St. Andrew’s School in Parañaque City (High School, 1971) and the University of Santo Tomas (Bachelor of Fine Arts, major in painting, 1976).

2nd Kagayhaan Gold Cup Dragon Boat Competition 2017 T

he 2nd Kagayhaan Gold Cup Dragon Boat Competition will officially commence on August 11-12, 2017 at the Cagayan River, Cagayan de Oro City with this year’s theme “Peace Is Possible”.

Presented by the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Kagayhaan Gold, Inc., in partnership with Liceo de Cagayan University, the event was officially launched last year as a platform to create increased awareness for the sport, and bring together young people all over the country to celebrate peace, friendship, camaraderie, and healthy competition.

It also aims to advocate environmental awareness of the state of

waterways in Mindanao, promote awareness through protection and conservation initiatives, as well as bring in tourists to the City.

Owen Jaen, race director, said that the 2nd installment of the Kagayhaan Gold Cup Dragon Boat Competition is expected to be bigger and better compared to last year, drumming up public awareness with different teams competing for the ultimate title as Champions for the 6 categories.

Teams from all over and outside the country will compete in the following categories: - 200m Men (Standard Boat) - 200m Mixed (Standard Boat) - 200m Women (Half-Boat)

- 500m Men (Standard Boat) - 500m Mixed (Standard Boat) - 500m Women (Half-Boat) Each of the participating teams will be composed of 22 persons for the Standard Boat, and 12 persons for the Half-Boat although Race Officials might request to load only 20 persons for a standard race for safety.

The KG Gold Cup Race invites everyone to take part in the opening ceremony as a way of expressing gratitude to the Almighty for the life brought by the river, for the chance to race, to be united, and to show peace.

THE presence of the Fashion Institute of the Philippines (FIP) in Cagayan de Oro is indeed a blessing for budding fashion designers here.

Take Claudine Cotiamco as an example.

When the then 19-year-old graduated in BS Information Technology from the then Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST), only then did she discover that she had a passion for clothes designing.

Thus, Claudine immediately enrolled at FIP for three months, patiently entering her classes five days a week.

Her perseverance definitely paid off when she started designing on the side while being employed at her family’s construction company.

A materialist is being easily described as someone with an attitude, who ignores spiritual values, compared with an idealist, who has the tendency to seek the highest spiritual perfection.

Idealism means the doctrine that appearance is purely the perception, the idea of subjects, and that the world is to be regarded as consisting of mind. The coquetry of higher philosophy makes it difficult to bear the ups and downs in our daily life.

Sure, we all know, that “our last earthly dress has no pockets any more”. Striving for earthly and terrestrial possession, property and estate might be the hit-man of idealism.

That’s how we have been taught. “Wine, women and song”, having the unpleasant feeling of fullness, egoism and bragging as well as showing-off - are these the materialist’s real attitudes?

Is the idealist, many times not being able stand on earth with both feet, the only one

who occupies himself H ave M y Say with religion and virtuousness - so to speak, with celestial and heavenly things?

Is that really so?

Can we make such a distinction?

Sure, it’s easy to so so: it’s manageable Klaus Doring and comfortable.

DTI opens Negosyo Center in Balingasag July 10-16, 2017

ALINGASAG, Misamis Oriental – It was Mayor Marrietta Abogado’s vision.

And it came true last Tuesday.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Misamis Oriental provincial office opened its Negosyo Center in Balingasag municipality last July 11, the 11th such facility existing in the province today.

In a Negosyo Center, business permits facilitation is sped up, businesses are assisted with the production of their products and many more.

Abogado had dreamed of Balingasag’s homegrown products boneless bangus, tableya and coco sugar to be more visible in mainstream grocery shelves in Cagayan de Oro City and beyond.

That dream will come into near fruition with the realization of the town’s own Negosyo Center.

According to DTI Misamis Oriental

director Ma. Eliza Pabillore who attended the occasion, a Negosyo Center will walk through the small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) in honing the quality of their products all throughout the entire process.

This would guarantee the wholesale market to snap up their products once they realize that the brands are of high quality and exportable.

Among the assistance offered by the Negosyo Center are labelling to quality assurance to training of staff.

It’s for the latter reason that Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (Tesda) 10 assistant director Leo Velez was also present during the affair, offering the agency’s help in honing the skills of SME employees through training upgrades.

The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) signed today (10 July) a circular to guide electric cooperatives on a unified mechanism concerning relocation of their power facilities affected by government construction.

The DOE-DPWH Joint Circular prescribes uniform guidelines and procedures for the proper payment of compensation and/or recovery of cost in the event of the need to

relocate the distribution/ subtransmission lines of electric cooperatives.

At the signing of the Joint Circular along with DPWH Undersecretary Karen Jimeno, representing DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said: “We have to address situations where the facilities of electric cooperatives need to be relocated due to government projects, such as road-widening, bridge construction, among others, and provide a

unified mechanism for reasonable compensation to them for every affected facility.”

“This joint initiative is in cognizance of the need to provide continuous, adequate and reliable electricity services to consumers while government projects are underway,” Cusi pointed out.

Based on the Circular, the government agency implementing a public works project shall coordinate during with the National Electrification

Administration (NEA) and Electric Cooperatives to address all right-of-way concerns related to the affected facility, including claims for compensation and determination of

relocation sites.

held at the Hwaseong Dream Park, the Off icial Venue of the 2017 Little League Baseball Asia Pacif ic and Middle East Regional Tournament which boasted of eight standard baseball diamonds, electronic score boards, synthetic grass, bleachers for two teams per diamond, and international standard lighting.
