For this year, Amways aims to gather more than 20,000 runners across the three key cities.

Limketkai Rotunda were Unique Semblance, Blanc, Cronus, Vocaloid, Xiera, Persephone, Unknown, CGNG, 2HD, Soshi-A, G-List, 7Knights, LXX-II Seconds, Heart Beat, Sovereign, Queenkas, Tremendous, A.N. Jell, Pink Step, Sweet Kixx, Dream High and Kings.

There were also

games, raffles and an album giveaway for the audience who filled the venue to the brim.

Plus there were special performances by X-Unified, Leticia, XITE, Venom, A#, Jeric and Blacklace.

There was a P15 entrance at the venue because proceeds of this event go to iTudlo Project 2016.

DSWD empowers beneficiaries to choose candidates, party Cagayan de Oro City --- All DSWD Personnel of DSWD Field Office 10 are one in recognizing that all Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries are free to decide, choose, and express their beliefs and rights on issues concerning their lives and their communities.

DSWD only acts as facilitators on how their voices will be amplified and be heard and be converted into action.

This coming local and national elections, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (Pantawid Pamilya) promotes empowerment of the beneficiaries on active citizenry.

Newly installed Regional Director of DSWD Nestor B. Ramos said Pantawid Pamilya promotes the beneficiaries’ rights to participate in the electoral processes, especially, in the coming national elections.

During the monthly Family Development Sessions, beneficiaries are enlightened with their critical role in choosing candidates through the active citizenship module.

While the prohibition against partisan political activity prevents DSWD personnel from endorsing

candidates and political parties, DSWD personnel may still espouse particular principles on good governance, policies on inclusive growth, poverty reduction or on programs like Pantawid Pamilya.

On a related note, the DSWD has vigilantly implemented its Anti-EPAL Campaign to prevent candidates and potitical parties from using DSWD programs and projects for their own purposes.

However, this does not mean that the DSWD should hinder the beneficiaries of its programs and projects from participating in the political process. Beneficiaries have the right to support, campaign for, and vote for the candidates and political parties they believe in, as long as they do not do so during official DSWD activities and do not use DSWD resources.

New Year Resolutions We could spend all year living healthier, more productive lives, so why do we only decide to make the change at the start of the year? Why do we all make (and break) New Year resolutions?

Many of us will start 2016 with resolutions – to get fit, learn a new skill, eat differently. If we really want to do these things, why did we wait until an arbitrary date which marks nothing more important than a timekeeping convention?

British psychologist Tom Stafford asked this.

And not only he. The answer tells us something important about the psychology of motivation, and about what popular theories of self-control miss out.

While celebrating during New Year’s night, my family an friends found out, that what we want isn’t really straightforward. At bedtime you might want to get up early and go for a run, but when your alarm goes off you find you actually want a lie-in.

When exam day comes around you might want to be the kind of person

who spent the afternoons studying, but on each of those afternoons you instead wanted to hang out with your friends.

You could see these contradictions as failures of our self-control: impulses for temporary pleasures manage to somehow override our longer-term interests.

One fashionable theory of self-control, proposed

by Roy Baumeister at Florida State University, is the ‘ego-depletion’ account. This theory states that self-control is like a muscle. This means you can exhaust it in the short-term – meaning that every temptation you resist makes it more likely that you’ll yield to the next temptation, even if it is a temptation to do something entirely different.

A corollary of the ‘like a muscle’ theory is that in the long term, you can strengthen your willpower with practice. So, for example, Baumeister found that people who were assigned two weeks of trying to keep their back straight whenever possible showed improved

willpower when asked back into the lab.

But, and more importantly, that theory doesn’t give an explanation why we wait for New Year’s Day to begin exerting our selfcontrol. If your willpower is a muscle, you should start building it up as soon as possible, rather than wait for an arbitrary date.

Another explanation may answer these questions, although it isn’t as fashionable as ego-depletion.

George Ainslie’s book ‘Breakdown of Will’ puts forward a theory of the self and selfcontrol which uses game theory to explain why we have trouble with our impulses, and why our attempts to control them take the form they do. resolutions start on 1 January. The date is completely arbitrary, but it provides a clean line between our old and new selves. The practical upshot of the theory is that if you make a resolution, you should formulate it so that at every point in time it is absolutely clear whether you are sticking to it or not. The clear lines are arbitrary, but they help the truce between our competing interests hold.

In a joking manner he told the elders that next year 2016, the activity will be done in a resort where everybody will wear their best swim wear and suits. He wished them good life, and fruitful years ahead of them as they enjoy the care afforded to them.

The activity started at exactly 7AM with a briefing at the DOT-10 Facade and distribution of IDs and T-shirts after which at 8AM the children were brought to Macabalan Port and Agora Bus Terminal. A running tour with orientation as possible entry and exit points of trafficking. After which the tour continues and they were brought to Laguindingan Airport for briefing and orientation the area. The children were so delighted to see the planes at the airport runway about to fly and land. It was an experience they will never forget and somehow dream of flying when the time comes when they are all in placed and be what they are in the future.

At 10AM, the children had a- never to be forgotten experience when they were brought to the Divine Mercy Shrine at Brgy. Ulaliman, El Salvador City. The place is not only a tourist destination, but a place of miracles and bountiful blessings from the Divine Mercy of God. The children were given a chance to be at peace and were amazed to see the 50- foot high Shrine of the Divine Mercy standing on the hills of Barangay Ulaliman facing the ocean.

11AM the tour proceeded to Apple Tree Resort and Hotel one of the finest resort in the region-at Opol, Misamis Oriental for a program and sumptuous lunch treated by the Department of Tourism.

After lunch program proper of the activity began with Ms. Bam M. Emphasis welcoming the children and the guests.

Followed by different presentation of the children and sharing of selected children of their experiences. Everybody in the venue was tearyeyed as sad stories of their childhood were revealed and seeking for love, care and understanding.

These children are under the care of Gugma sa Kabataan, Inc., with its Executive Director Minda Domingo, PhD who took care of them and prepare them to become better persons in the future. In fact some a lot of these children coming from this loving home are now professionals, like in the field of medicine, teachers, HRM graduates and other courses which will give them better life as they traverse life after their sad experiences as trafficked children.

Tourism Czar Regional Director Catalino ‘Butch’ E. Chan 111 was so touched of the experiences of the children. In his message assured the

children that partners like DOT will continue to help the children and let them become normal children and hope for the best.

He wished that in the future many of them will become good citizens of the country and somehow will have position in the government and private sectors and live normal lives that should be afforded to them and be successful in their field of life.

The children enjoyed the games prepared for them, the gift giving, prizes they won of the trivias and much more as children they were treated to swim at the infinity pool of the hotel.

The successful activity was brought to life by the Department of TourismRegional Director and Tourism Czar Butch E. Chan 111 with Chazz Ladera - Focal Person with the support of Rural Transit Mindanao, Inc., (RTMI) for the air-con bus where the children were so comfortable during the trip afforded

by RTMI Manager John del Castillo, kind driver-Julio Ababa and accommodating bus attendant Ms. Rachel Mariz Alajas. Police Superintendent Lyndell Disquitado, of Philippine National Police X – by sending COCPO policewomen, PO2 Mercidita Amobongan

and PO2 Cherry Abensay in order to secure the children of their trip.

The success of the activity is also attributed to Gugma sa Kabataan, Inc., Executive DirectorMs. Minda Domingo, PhD who is taking care of these less-privileged children and molding to be what they ought to be in the future amidst the experiences they encountered in life.

At the expense of the petitioners, let this order be published once a week for three (3) consecutive weeks in a newspaper of general circulation in Cagayan de Oro City and in Misamis Oriental.

The RTC Social Welfare Officer assigned to this Court is hereby directed to conduct a home and child study on the adopting parents, the natural parents and the children to be adopted. She is also directed to conduct counseling sessions with the biological parents of the children to be adopted. The reports thereof shall be submitted to this Court SIXTY (60) DAYS from the receipt of this order.

Petitioner is directed to make arrangements with this Court Social Worker for the scheduling and incidental expenses in conducting the case study.

Let copy of this order and the petition be furnished upon the Local Civil Registrar of Gingoog City, the Solicitor General and the City Prosecutor of Cagayan de Oro City for their appearance in behalf of the state.

Department of Tourism X - Humanitarian Service Project “Gift Giving to the Senior Citizens - Christmas Season 2015”

hirty five (35) Senior Citizens were honored by the Department of Tourism X during their “GiftGiving to the Seniors, a Christmas Season 2015 Humanitarian Service Project” of the Agency as Mandated from the National Government last December 29, 2015 at the famous Ale Restaurant, Robinsons-Limketkai Center this city-a newly accredited resto of the Department of Tourismwith sumptuous food cuisine and excellent service.

Ms. Jojo Roque, one the Senior Officers of the Department of Tourism X told Business Week Mindanao that as the department say goodbye to 2015 and welcome the Year

of the Monkey 2016 has included this meaningful Gift-Giving to the eldersdirect beneficiaries of the employees of the department. This is an attempt to reach out some of their needs to be happy for the Yuletide Season.

The event also honors the elders with a simple yet sumptuous lunch and gave them small tokens of appreciation.

She further said that though not expensive gifts but these were thought about with their loving hearts. This is their first time to conduct this program and hope to improve our activities and plan to continue this in the coming years.

DOT 10 conducts meaningful Christmas 2015 activity: A day with the less-priviledged children

In commemoration for the annual Day Against Child Trafficking in the country, the Department of Tourism Region X conducted a meaningful and fruitful Yuletide Season 2015 activity for the less- privileged children under the care of the Gugma sa Kabataan, Inc., this city last December 17, 2015.

The activity marks its 11th year since the start of its implementation.

Fifty (50) young less-privileged children aged 10-17 were given the opportunity by the Department of Tourism X to mingle and adjust with other children and to familiarize and be

aware of the entry and exit points of trafficking.

Through piece of advice the children were made aware on the issues and threats of child-trafficking and child’s rights and for them to appreciate their environment and surroundings, and to have a sense of belongingness, and feeling of support and care during this festive time of the year-Christmas 2015.

In an interview, DOT X Focal PersonMs. Chazz Ladera “Ate Inday” told Business Week Mindanao that the activity aimed to make use of the activity and venue as an opportunity to share their with agency

partners, the community, and the general public, information about child trafficking and popularize the human rights standard in the protection of the trafficked children.

She further said that in commemoration for the annual December 12 Day Against Child Trafficking in the country, this national activity are participated in by the different government agencies, LGUs, NGO’s, children and young people in schools, out of school youth and in communities.

The activity is also intended for children to be aware on the issues on child-trafficking and for them to join the advocacy of anti-child-trafficking. children/PAGE 6
