HE Cagayan de Oro-based Mindanao Daily News Corporation, which publishes Mindanao Daily News and two other regular news publications in Mindanao, recently forged a communications partnership agreement with the Regional Association of Government Communicators – Northern Mindanao (RAGCOM-NM).

Under the agreement, Mindanao Daily News Corporation guarantees substantial spaces of its newspapers for the stories and pictures submitted by members of RAGCOMNM. On their part, RAGCOM-NM must support the business sustainability of Mindanao Daily News Corporation in the form of advertorials and advertisements.

The signing of the agreement was made last week between Mindanao Daily News Corporation president/ CEO Dante Sudaria and RAGCOM-NM president Merlyn Ybañez and witnessed by vice-

presidents and editors of Mindanao Daily News, BusinessWeek Mindanao and Cagayan de Oro Times, and other officers of RAGCOM-NM, at the Mindanao Daily News Corporation office.

To enhance the story gathering and writing capabilities of RAGCOMNM members, a series of trainings will be organized by Mindanao Daily News Corporation.

The two-day journalism workshop will cover news writing, photography, broadcasting, writing for social media and issues and crisis communication. It aims to build a foundation ragcom/PAGE 7

The hotel adopted innovative lighting and appliances, making It highly energy efficient to significantly reduce its carbon footprint from operations. By using LED lighting, it's estimated that the hotel's extra cost has been reduced by approximately 54%.

Energy management system determines that heating and cooling system is also powered down when guests are not in their rooms.

Another method for reducing heat gain in the building is the use of reflective materials on the exteriors to minimize heat absorption.

The building was also designed to save water use by approximately 38% through the use of water conserving fixtures

such as low flow toilets on restroom sinks. The hotel has the capacity to collect rain water and process it onsite so that It Is filtered and sent directly to the ground without entering the city storm system where It could drag in pollutants.

The hotel also boasts a special accomplishment for its sustainable construction. ecoSolutions helped set up a system to recycle waste materials while the project was under construction.

Amazingly, the hotel developers were able to recycle about 75% of construction waste which has been diverted from recycling plants.

The building's material selection are also based on optimizing indoor quality. In addition to building design and construction, waste at the hotel is sorted and segregated to divert landfill bound trash.

Most Importantly, Limketkai Luxe Hotel helps nearby communities in social and economic growth through conservation and recycling processes.

GSIS excels in client satisfaction under 2017 ARTA State pension fund Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) obtained an Excellent rating of 94% in overall client satisfaction under the Civil Service Commission’s (CSC) 2017 nationwide AntiRed Tape Act Report Card Survey (ARTA RCS) covering 43 branch offices and 1,226 survey respondents.

The report card reflected the results in the core areas of overall client satisfaction and compliance with ARTA provisions.

Client satisfaction covers frontline service provider, service quality,

basic facilities, and physical setup, where GSIS obtained scores ranging from 92% to 96%.

In particular, nearly all respondents expressed satisfaction with frontline service delivery as measured by the indicators of fairness and ethical treatment, courteousness, competence, knowledge, and timeliness in attention and response time.

Members and pensioners also affirmed the continuing commitment of GSIS for service excellence as evidenced by the high

scores it obtained in the indicators of “outcome of service” and “overall time to complete the service” (98.69% and 98.37%, respectively).

Respondents gave the highest score of 96.5% to basic facilities and lauded the “clean comfort rooms, convenient waiting areas, and functional special lanes for pregnant women, persons with disability and senior citizens”.

No respondent expressed dissatisfaction on the physical setup of 43 GSIS offices surveyed, citing that they were “well-organized, comfortable, convenient

and clean.”

In the area of compliance with ARTA provisions, GSIS obtained perfect score in ‘no ‘hidden cost in transactions’ and 98% in “no noon break policy”, the pension fund’s strongest areas in the survey.

Although GSIS and other government corporations were no longer covered by the regular ARTA RCS survey since 2016, the pension fund -- through then Chairman Francisco Duque III-- opted to tap CSC to undertake the survey anew in 2017. arta/PAGE 7

Happy New Year 2018!

Sweet words are easy to say; nice things are easy to buy; but good people are different to find.

Life ends, when you stop dreaming; hope ends, when you stop believing; friendship stops, when you stop sharing. A good fiend of mine sent me this quotation. I commented back: So very true and very well said!

A new year has just begun. We’re thinking back. We deleted friends in social networks and different other connections. Some mutual friends - not only in Facebook - didn’t remain as mutual. Some good new relationships have begun and made possible because of a mutual acquaintance. Or, we’re looking forward renewing relationships. Some season greetings brought back special memories.

Keep in mind, our life is borrowed. This is going to be a little bit complicated now, so keep going. No rental charges are collected from us.

Many of us have forgotten this and live life at his fullest. Our life is equal to a book from a library that lends one. But how insatiable and unbearable are we in disdainful acting towards life and therefore to ourselves?

Life seems to be nothing, just being ready to riddle one with bullets. Life seems to be nothing, just being broken through the indifference and unreliable and immoral behavior. Life seems to be nothing for those people who don’t understand cries from the heart of other people around them - cries for their hearts and families, for justice and for many other things.

Life with all its ups and downs, is just a loan, but for many of our fellow creatures it just seems to be nonsense to be littered like dump.

And, if people try to survive, especially during these days, and if they just experienced (once

more!) indifference, Have My Say arrogance, ignorance or cheating by whomever - they will give up!

I can assure you that every one of us can at first help in prayers and, in reading the bible. “Proverbs” is the Klaus Doring probably most downto-earth book in the bible. Its teachings prepare you for the daily life, the street and the market place, but not for the schoolroom. The book offers warm pieces of advice you get; practical guidance for making your way on earth. Proverbs covers any kinds of questions you might have right now. Anybody can relate to the generalities of Proverbs, because this book simply tells how life works most of the time. +++ Personal note: Time f lies. Globe expands Global Filipino Schools (GFS) program to 15 regions nationwide G lobe Telecom, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), is expanding the Global Filipino Schools (GFS) program to realize presence in 15 regions nationwide. The GFS program is a long-term and modern approach to education that allows 21st century learning methods to be introduced and implemented in public schools nationwide.

Around 60 schools were added to the program this year, bringing to 142 schools the total number under its fold. The program now covers 15 out of 17 regions around the country. This was revealed during the presentation and turnover ceremony conducted recently between Globe and DepEd. Globe has committed in bringing the program to all 17 regions in the Philippines by the year 2020. From current indications, though, that target may be achieved as early as next year.

“Education is one area where Globe continues to focus its strength and capabilities in order to help build a more digitally savvy

generation of both teachers and learners.

Soon enough, more teachers and learners will benefit from Globe Telecom’s advocacy of a digital-centric lifestyle for everyone, which we believe is the catalyst for growth and nation building,” said Globe Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications Yoly Crisanto.

For her part, Education Secretary Leonor Briones, in her keynote speech, lauded supporters of the public education sector. “If you are truly seeking truth, if you are truly seeking life, if you are truly seeking the meaning of Christmas, find it among the children whom you are serving,” she said.

Under the GFS program, every school beneficiary will serve as a training hub for teachers in the DepEd Division the school belongs to. The school is also equipped with the knowledge and skills to facilitate workshops regarding 21st century learning skills, and the integration of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the classroom.

The schools also receive free internet

University of Santo Tomas received two genetic sequencing equipment from Genomic Institute of Asia (GINA) which will be used for research and training of faculty and students.

In the Philippines, there is a significant lack of opportunities for aspiring geneticists locally due to the limited availability of these high technology equipment and lack of facilities for hands on training and research, which results to students looking for opportunities to study overseas.

Tom Navasero, founder of GINA and the president and chairman of local healthcare pioneer Philab Holdings Corp., established GINA with the vision for the Philippines to be regarded as a “hub

for genetic sequencing.”

He believes that it is important to extend help to educational institutions in order to achieve this vision.

“Through education, we can hone the raw talent and the vast potential of our students who will fill in the gaps of our need for world-class geneticists, counselors, specialists in this country,” said Navasero.

Recognized as a premier school in medicine with excellent programs in the field of science, UST welcomes the generous and timely donation as its College of Science Dept. is planning to open new tracks under its Biology course.

To assess its success upon its implementation, a study released by

Taylor Nelson Sofres in 2015 showed the GFS program helped improve digital skills among teachers and students (specifically on usage of mobile technology and computer software), enabled 21st century learning outcomes

that involve creativity, communication, collaboration and creativity, increased student engagement in classroom activities, and helped enhance school culture through readiness in ICT integration.

Moving to a new beat

Honda BeAT (ISS)

Most people I know are intrigued why a relatively tall guy like me (I am 5' 11”) has an affinity to small bikes, specifically scooters.

A fair observation, I suppose, because of all the bikes in my garage, it is my 2013 Honda BeAT that gets most usage.

Well, my primary purpose for riding motorcycles is to “beat” traffic as

most of my time on the saddle is spent navigating through congested urban areas. Honda has since updated this entry-level scooter, targeting a new generation of riders, tall or otherwise.

The all-new BeAT still has a modest 110 cc aircooled engine but is now equipped with Honda's PGMFi system. This

enables it to produce 6.36 kw @ 7500 rpm and 9.01 nm @ 6000 rpm while achieving a claimed fuel efficiency of 63 kilometers to a liter.

What is immediately noticeable though, is the excellent throttle response. From stop lights, the all-new BeAT accelerates like a 125 cc. Speaking of stop lights, little scooter is fitted with Idling-stop

System (ISS). The ISS automatically shuts off the engine after idling for three seconds. This is particularly useful at junctions where it takes a while for the light to turn green. There's no point burning fuel if you are not going anywhere. When it's time to go, just blip the throttle and the engine fires up without delay. No

need to press the starter button. If you happen to be uncomfortable with this feature, you can just flip a switch to disable it.
